  I agree with ryedog. Blood Meridian is forgettable. I have completed it - and like you, it took me awhile. the wordiness you refer to is the whole thing. It isn't a compelling story with great characters at all. I found it pretentious as hell. It's one of those "great books" that no one dares call out. In reality, it's terrible.
  
  I am now reading Homage to Catalonia by George Orwell. He was sent to Spain to report on the Spanish Civil War and ended up participating. This is a historical event about which I know very little, so I'm anxious to learn more.

  I'm about 3/4 of the way through the second book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series (Clash of Kings). Around where Jon Snow and Quorin Halfhand are fleeing wildlings while some minor character sacrifices himself to buy them time; Catelyn is trying to interrogate Jaime about things, Tyrion is trying to hold shit together in King's Landing while worried that Cersai will kill his whoregirl and that Stannis is supposedly preparing to assault the place.
  
  A lot of good plotlines going on right now. And don't worry Game of Thrones fans, I'm pretty sure the series is around midway or later in the third book, so nothing I'm saying here spoils anything.

  Agreed, Sun Also Rises was a favorite of mine. I had a hard time finishing For Whom the Bells Tolls actually.

  I just finished Gone Girl this morning. The movie looked interesting, so I figured I'd read the book first. Before that, I finally ready 1984. Before that I did the 7-book Bob Lee Swagger Series. The first book of the series, Point of Impact, is what the movie Shooter, with Mark Wahlberg is based on.
  
  I'm going to start the Divergent series this evening.

  I got Kindle Unlimited about two months ago, and it has been bad news bears. I have been reading like three books/week, sometimes more. Nothing super great. I did like the Wayward Pines trilogy, which Fox is making into a show. I finally read the Hunger Games trilogy, which I enjoyed. I watched the first movie and have the 2nd one, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
  
  I plan to reread Gone Girl before I see it in theaters. Same with Wild by Cheryl Strayed.

  Finally reading Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. The only one of his I'd ever read was Slauterhouse Five. I loved that, but just never followed up. I like his style very much and am enjoying Cat's Cradle.

  Been reading a lot of books that are becoming movies. And I read pretty much anything. I probably read a book or so a week. Haven't read anything super good lately.
  
  If any of you haven't read, Laura Hillenbrand's book Unbroken has been on the New York time best sellers list forever, and is awesome.

  I really liked Serena. I thought it was a more fucked up Gone Girl type story. Sadly, I think the movie will suck.

  Just finished "Born to run". It's kind of about Ultra running mixed in with this secret Mexican Indian tribe. I know it's about running (ghey I know) but it was actually pretty well written.
  
  I wish I'd have written down all the books I have read. I read one a week or two and can't even remember what I read two weeks ago.

  Its pretty good. Not really a story that flows as it is just a bunch of bits and pieces so that is probably why it has taken me awhile to get through it. I got the memorial edition where there are letters from people at the end.
  
  It is a good read. I had met Mr Kyle a number of years ago....seemed like a good guy.

  I gave American Sniper a 3/5 on Goodreads. Just wasn't a well put together book. I get that it's an autobiography, and Kyle isn't a writer, but it was just choppy and meh. He should have gotten more help in writing it and it would have been a better book.
  
  Since my last post in this thread I have read the Divergent Series and World War Z. I'm starting "To Kill a Mockingbird" today. Never read it.
