What are you reading?
-
fan_from_texasI just finished Twilight of the Elites: America After Meritocracy. Excellent analysis of the problem; terrible proposed resolution.
Now I'm looking for something a bit lighter/easier--perhaps The Sisters Brothers?
What is everyone else reading? Anything good lately? -
mcburg93Just started reading the Inner Circle by Brad Metzler. I have always wanted to read some of his books but just got around to buying a few of them.

Manhattan BuckeyeIan Pears is great if you're into historical fiction (think Dan Brown, but actually good).
"Instance of the Fingerpost" is one of my favorite fictional books. Additionally "Stone's Fall" is very good. The latter is much more approachable if one hasn't read Pears before. -
iclfan2Been reading some lighter/easy reads about secret service and seals agents. I have read the entire Vince Flynn series, and am now reading Brad Thor. Both series are very similar. I also read Stephen King's "11/22/63" which was a pretty solid book, but was extremely long.

Fab4RunnerProbably going to read The Great Gatsby or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo next.
I like a wide variety of books. Fiction, non-fiction, memoirs, mommy porn, etc. -

The Great Gatsby is worth reading because it's a classic, but I didn't think it was really exceptional literature. Of American classics, I thought The Maltese Falcon was the most pleasant surprise. -

That's basically why I am reading it. Thanks for the suggestion!fan_from_texas;1299688 wrote:The Great Gatsby is worth reading because it's a classic, but I didn't think it was really exceptional literature. Of American classics, I thought The Maltese Falcon was the most pleasant surprise. -

Big fan of The Great Gatsby? Let's see how the movie shakes out. -

The film will be terrible just like the last one. Maybe worse since it's in 3D. Because god forbid I wouldn't experience Myrtle Wilson's body hurling towards my seat.fan_from_texas;1300516 wrote:Big fan of The Great Gatsby? Let's see how the movie shakes out.
It's not really material that lends its self well to film IMO. -
gorocks99Going to pick up The Signal and the Noise by Nate Silver today or tomorrow and get to reading it.

thavoiceBeen wanting to pick up No Easy Day from that SEAL who was on the raid that killed Bin Laden, but been hesitant to do so and give him legitmacy. Looked at it at the airport this weekend and the print looks a little bigger, and big margins so I wonder how long that book really is.
Prolly wait until its in paperback -

LMAO, nice fail by judging if a book is good or not depending on the movie. Great Gatsby is a classic, and a great piece of literature. Nice fail.fan_from_texas;1300516 wrote:Big fan of The Great Gatsby? Let's see how the movie shakes out.
Also, the movie looks horrendous, and obv strays from the book. -

I want to read it, but I don't want to support him by buying the book. I will wait until it hits the library.thavoice;1303428 wrote:Been wanting to pick up No Easy Day from that SEAL who was on the raid that killed Bin Laden, but been hesitant to do so and give him legitmacy. Manhattan BuckeyeOn the lighter side I enjoyed this book:
http://www.amazon.com/Under-Alone-Undercover-Infiltrated-Motorcycle/dp/1400060842
It's a guy's recollection of his undercover work with the Mongol outlaw motorcycle gang. Obviously it is one-sided since it is, well, HIS recollection but it is a short and fun read. Recommended. -
Con_AlmaThis guy was interviewd on the radio here locally not too long ago. Wow, what a story.
There were motorcycle gang members calling in and disputing his acceptance into a gang. -
Manhattan Buckeye
They can't dispute the convictions. Obviously something happened. Whether it was worth the time and money put in to it is debatable, but the book was highly entertaining.Con_Alma;1303461 wrote:This guy was interviewd on the radio here locally not too long ago. Wow, what a story.

Con_AlmaNo I would guess not!
