Kyle Mills. I liked the newest one. Is he officially taking over the series or was he just finishing the book Flynn had started when he passed?iclfan2;1782192 wrote:Currently reading the newer Mitch Rapp novel by the new author taking over the series. Also if you like Flynn, Brad Thor has a solid series, very similar.

I'm not sure, I haven't read into it too much because I didn't even know someone was going to finish this book. Any other authors of this genre you like?TBone14;1782288 wrote:Kyle Mills. On another note, I have read a bunch of books since this last thread. Some "popular" ones (I end up reading random James Patterson books when I can't find anything good)
Dead wake- about the Lusitania, pretty good, learned a lot more about this incident.
The goldfinch- was a little slow, but worth a read, I think it won a Pulitzer.
The Patterson NYPD series was good. Also read all of the "Women's murder club" series.
The Dana Perino book was ok, but her writing was annoying.
Code of conduct by Brad Thor was very good, as is his entire Scott Horvath series.
A random James Patterson book called "Miracle at Augusta" was actually pretty good.

I read two to three books/week, but it took me for foreverrrr to read The Goldfinch. It was challenging for me. I was not a huge fan of the first half of the book, but by the end I was glad I stuck with it. It did win a Pulitzer.iclfan2;1782297 wrote:I'm not sure, I haven't read into it too much because I didn't even know someone was going to finish this book. Any other authors of this genre you like?

HereticI'm getting close to putting in an entire year with the Malazan series. Going from a reading order I found online, which blends the core series and the side stories together into a solid chronological order, I've completed 7/10 main series, 1.5/6 of the other author's side stories, 4/5 of the more comedic novellas and then will be starting the three-volume prequel of which currently only one has been released.
Nothing like a good long-term project! The main question will be if I have all of those finished before Fatass Martin finally releases the sixth A Song of Ice and Fire book. -
Fab4RunnerI read A Mother's Reckoning by Sue Klebold earlier this week. She is a wonderful writer, and I have infinite empathy for what she has gone through. But it was a very tough read, and it made me really angry/upset at times. Very similar to my feelings while reading Columbine by Dave Cullen.

iclfan2Pat Conroy passed away last night. One of my favorite authors. If you haven't read any of his books I highly recommend them.

ptown_trojans_1Started QB: The Making of Modern Quarterbacks by Bruce Feldman.
Pretty good so far as he is talking about the rise of the Elite 11 and Dilfer. -

Ironic, as that was the first book I read by him and which led me to read more from him. He had a way with words that I haven't seen anywhere else.Dr Winston O'Boogie;1785351 wrote:Agreed. My Losing Season was my favorite.
It also helps that I went to college right next to where he went, so there was a sense of familiarity in his stories of Charleston. Loved his stories about Beaufort too though.

Fab4RunnerAnyone reading anything good right now? I am used to reading two books a week, but I have been slacking lately. I need something really great to get me back in the swing of things.

HereticAlmost done with the main Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Three more chapters to go in The Crippled God (although I think a couple of them are about 100 pages each).
Then it's the rest of the other Malazan author's books in that world. Then the prequel trilogy by the main author. Then the other one is starting his own "character origins" series.
By the time I'm done with all that, I'm hoping George The Fat Man actually has Winds of Winter published, although with his general tempo, that's probably a dream. -
Commander of AwesomeJust finished, "And the weak suffer what they must" written by ex greek prime minister of finance about the european economic crisis. Was boring as fuck. Would not recommend, and I used to work in Finance.

I just bought this based upon your post. I am looking forward to it. I see the same author has a book about Tecumseh that I would like to read someday. Have you read that one?Apple;1815517 wrote:Just finished The Frontiersmen... one of my all-time favorites! Probably read it 3-4 times.

Just finished A Mother's Reckoning as well...amazing read. Both books should be required reading for parents of teenagers IMO.Fab4Runner;1784709 wrote:I read A Mother's Reckoning by Sue Klebold earlier this week. Con_AlmaCurrently reading The Twilight War, the secret history of America's thirty year conflict with Iran. I'm only 60 pages in but I've learned 2 things thus far.
1. I've been way too hard on President Carter over the years for his role in the beginning of this disaster.
2. The Soviets had us by the throats during a very vulnerable period and could have really forced our hand from an economic and military perspective during the late 70s/early 80s. -
ptown_trojans_1I like that book actually. That period, from 1977 to 1981 is one of the most overlooked in terms of the Cold War.
I read Thomas Hauser's biography of Ali over the summer. Simply amazing and I highly recommend it.

Also, most of the way through the Bond novels, finished On Her Majesty's Secret Service and just started You Only Live Twice. They are so far just like the movies, just with little differences. -
