Got bored at work and looked up some Skyrim Bear battles, seems most people get their asses handed to them.

Eh, I own bears... and really anything.

Put on stoneskin, conjur a fire or ice guy and put my pet dog and my orc companion on them and stand back and cast some spell.

I'm guessing bears are tougher than in Oblivion then, where they were tough for the first level or two you started encountering both types and then cakewalks after that.

Then again, anything in Oblivion was a cakewalk after a certain bit of work. For me, that was developing a high-strength character with a good magical weapon plus Azura's Star (for unlimited soul-trapping). It's sounding that, at the least, I'll have to work to develop some sort of new strategy. Not that "bash stuff good" is really a strategy, but you know...

Yes. You start off doing a couple of quests, then they let you in the Companions.. You get a nice weapon made for you as well after a few missions and once they trust you, they offer you the opportunity to join the "elite circle" or whatever... Which is being turned into a werewolf.

Oh, wasn't aware of that. Does being a werewolf have a downside like being a vampire?

Didn't ask you nor did I want your smug answer. Run along QQ4Fail I bet Sleeper is cussing at a member in a ND thread somewhere just itching for an infraction or a thread move.

    I found this:

    Benefits
    - 100% resistance to disease: Constant
    - Beastform - Change into Werewold: Once per day - extended by eating corpses
    - Beastform = Increase dmg health and stamina and runspeed
    - Committing crimes while in Beastform will not cause you to get a bounty

    Disadvantages
    - No longer gain rest bonuses from sleeping
    - 1000g fine if caught changing into a werewolf by guards
    - Most NPC's are hostile while you are in beastform
    - In beastform cannot heal, open inventory, speak etc

Also, you DON'T have to become a werewolf. They give you the option, I believe.

I didn't know you got benefits from sleeping, I only slept once in the game (Dark Brotherhood). Sounds like there isn't a major downside, I shall be a werewolf soon.

Also I read about an ebony sword you get from the Blue Palace. Apparently it pwns and is the best weapon in the game. I shall be seeking this out this evening.

Let me know about your findings regarding this sword.

Got the sword last night, found out to power it up you have to kill people who trust you. This includes people who you have done missions for, or companions. Once its powered up it takes 30 HP away with each swipe plus the damage. I haven't built it up yet, got busy with Dark Brotherhood then OSU Duke game (loldukelol).

Oh, and the 1.2 patch. Don't install it yet. It apparently has a bug that disables all resistances that you get from equipment, character race, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on the patch, I avoided DLing it. Played for a few hours on Saturday just running various misc missions. I've been working on my smithing (got it up in the 70s) and started working on enchanting too. Wish I hadn't neglected it until now, as I want my enchanting to be stronger. I'm currently in the 30s and finding the game to get easier. I must say when compared to Fallout 3 I am not a fan of the way the game levels up the enemies. Its annoying how a camp of some Fornsworth is easy at level 27 but the same camp will kick my ass at 31. The difficulty seems to have leveled off a bit though I haven't come across multiple bears to really test it out.

Whenever I come across a mage who uses Ice Spikes I also tend to have trouble. They sap my stamina and then I cant catch up with them.

My Nord warrior struggles with mages. Period. Fortunately the "enemy retard" issue from Oblivion hasn't been fixed, so they still can't tell that there definitely is someone out there when arrows slam into their face. So I hit them from the sneak position, slip away, wait for them to decide nobody's around and go back to where they were and repeat.

I think enemies stop improving at L50. And, if you max everything, you can get to L81, so you have plenty of room to increase your advantage over things. But yeah, like with bandits. I slaughter regulars, outlaws and thugs. And beat highwaymen and chiefs. But marauders have started appearing and they are TOUGH. Either strong as fuck with a two-hand weapon or balancing one-hand with magic. I'm in a small cave to break up a skooma ring. A ton of dudes named "gambler" and "barkeep" that are weak come out along with a pit wolf...and a marauder with a two-hand sword. That guy's killed me a few times. The other ones are kinda like gnats. Annoy me and divert my attention from Mr. Assfucker.

Really the highest you can level up is 81? Does that mean you can continue to get perks or does it tail off like in Fallout? I don't understand why they cap it, why not let us keep going if we put in the time? Doesn't make sense.

It some ways I guess its good that enemies level up somewhat with you, but I find it just pissing me off more than being challenging. Not sure what the happy medium would be.

So they can raise the CAP level in upcoming DLC, which entices more people to buy.

I'm really missing this game. Haven't been able to play in almost a week and a half. Damn end of semester cramming.

I believe you can delete the patch if you'd like...

From what I've heard deleting the patch is a pain in the ass process.

From what I read, you'll be on L81 when you have everything raised up to 100. EVERYTHING. So there's simply no room to raise stats in order to progress towards another level.

Unless, and I don't know how this works, jail could be used. Because, like Oblivion, you lose random stat points if you stay in jail, so I don't know if losing enough would give you the chance to sneak another level, or if the game's triggered to stop at 81 and that's that.

In other news, while watching football, I played this all day yesterday. Doing nothing but sidequest dungeons in the general Markarth area. Leading to fights with named Dragurs and evil wizards magic-enhancing spiders. Good fun.

In "what's become of my life" news, I've put about 50 hours into this game in 8 days. While doing very little of the main plot, civil war or guilds storylines. Mainly just walking all over the world, triggering quests and (now) doing them.

I feel like I haven't done a real quest that was none misc in 4 days. Now that I'm starting to kick some ass I've been clearing out dungeons and ridden Skyrim of the bandit/troll vermin. Also it never seems to fail, every time I roll into Rivertown, dragon attack.

Still need to join the companions (lol that name is still dumb) and thief guild. I've been disappointed with the Dark Brotherhood so far. In Oblivion it was far and away the best quest line, and the missions were fun and imaginative, this week besides one mission, they've been pretty boring. Also find it difficult to stealth kill and get the bonus objectives for the mission which is annoying. Kill a guy for $1000 gold, only to use it on bounty in that town.

    I'm around 25 hours in now --- level 23 or 24, I forget.

I did about half of the main quest and decided to be done with that and do basically everything else in the game.

I'm guessing I'm about half way through the companions.

I'm sure everyone is like this, but I sit down planning to play 1-2 hours and get a lot of quests completed, and I end up wandering around aimlessly and getting distracted by every new location I discover...Then looting it, then selling everything, then heading back out to finish a quest and finding another cave, rinse/repeat. I played 2 hours last night and did 2 stupid quests.

I don't know why I feel like if I don't go into a cave I discovered right then I will never go back....The map shows 'cleared' once you have finished up a cave, but I just can't do it.
