Paleo eating

This was pretty good. The guacamole recipe linked on that page was awesome. Beats the hell out of the avocado and powder mix shit that my wife used to make. -

We make guac with avacado and salsa, it's REALLY good -

I did, just not in those same words. I believe it was something to the effect of "this guac is way better than the stuff we used to make with the powder mix." I through "we" in to cover my ass. -

Yeah, I could've saved some time and just used a pico salsa since it is nothing more than onion, tomato and cilantro. -

Have you tried the salsa beef and spaghetti squash? -

No, I am not a fan of squash. Afraid to give that one a chance. -
OneBuckeyeWent out to eat the other night and they had Chilean Sea Bass on Spaggetti Squash, Paleo win for eating out. Which is hard to do without asking for adjustments.

BR1986FBHopefully this is going well for you, Justin.
I have been Paleo for about 3 months and have dropped 26 lbs and 4 jean sizes. After 5 rounds of P90X/Insanity I have dropped them in favor of short, intense Crossfit-type circuits. These are compound exercises (power cleans, deadlifts, squats, weighted pushups, pullups & dips) done in intervals with speed jumping jacks, sprints & jump rope. These workouts are 20 minute intervals followed by a 15 minute P90X or Insanity ab workout. I've cut my workout time in half and still burn as many calories as I did with the Beachbody programs.
The principle behind paleo is a caveman style eating. There are variations of paleo but true paleo is a high healthy fat (grassfed beef, wild caught fish, Omega 3 rich eggs, veggies, nuts and some fruits...I also eat 70% dark chocolate guilt free), moderate protein, very low carb diet. Ratios can typically run 55-60% fat, 25-30% protein, the rest in carbs. I rarely take in more than 50g's of carbs a day (usually around 25g's) and am in a constant state of ketosis. My energy level is high and I'm more alert. This is important because I have sleep apnea and even though I've been on the CPAP, I was still often tired.
What this way of eating does is that the high healthy fat content in the meats, eggs, etc satisfies the hunger. Our bodies only need minimal amounts of carbs to function well and a lot of people have issues with carbs & insulin.
Along with this way of eating I've also experimented with 16/8 "intermittent fasting." I fast for 16 hours and eat during an 8 hour window. Typically will fast prior to a workout, guzzle some BCAA's, Yohimbine HCL & Jack3D just prior to workout and then feast postworkout. The fasting helps accelerate bodyfat loss.
If interested in paleo besides Mark Sisson's (marksdailyapple.com) site, check out robbwolf.com. Robb wrote "The Paleo Solution" which is also an excellent read.
For intermittent fasting check out leangains.com. The author of this site, Martin, is a freak who has maintained a bodyfat ratio of 5-6% over a 3-4 year span (year round) which is pretty much unheard of.
This way of eating is NOT for everyone. I have not touched anything close to a processed food/grain in 3 months. After about a week the cravings for these things go away.
As far as workouts go, by cutting carbs significantly, I wouldn't recommend this way of eating to endurance athletes who require more carbs to refuel. Aaron Rodgers, I believe, became paleo right before the Super Bowl. -
OneBuckeyeThanks, the stubborn body fat article on leangains.com is interesting. What does your diet looks like throughout a typical day with doing a 16/8 fast and paleo diet?
-
BR1986FB
Well.. as an example (I'm fasting today), I had 2 whole Omega 3 enriched farm eggs with a nitrate free sausage patty (bought a half a pig from a farmer) with an apple cut up & sprinkled with cinnamon for breakfast. All of this was sauteed in virgin coconut oil. The sauteed apple makes this meal friggin ROCK. I cook apples & peaches with ham all of the time sprinkled with cinnamon.OneBuckeye;741974 wrote:Thanks, the stubborn body fat article on leangains.com is interesting. For dinner I will be having about a pound of rotisserie chicken, skin and all, with a sweet potato sprinkled with cinnamon. For dessert with this meal I'll have a protein "pudding" made of Optimum Nutrition's Chocolate Peanut Butter casein protein whipped in the Magic Bullet with coconut milk, raw unsweetened coconut and ice. I stumbled upon this pudding by trying to make a shake and found out I had to eat it with a spoon.
This day of eating will contain 172g's of protein, 102g's of fat, 41g's carbs and 26g's sugar. I used to take in about 300g's of protein.
During the day I will drink iced green tea to hold me over until I eat at about 6pm. I'll fast again overnight until I train chest & back tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately, with my work schedule, I can't do the fast exactly like Lean Gains prescribes. He eats until 9-10pm (I'm usually in bed by 8:30-9am on weekdays...get up at 4:15am and sleep is GOD to me), fasts until about 1pm. I eat at roughly 5am and fast until 6:30-7pm. Tonight will be an earlier night due to no workout.
There are various ways to do the fast. Some just fast from lunchtime until after their evening workout.
One of the things I noticed since switching my eating is satiety. When I was eating 6-7 small meals spaced out between 2.5-3 hours I'd be hungry as Hell before my next meal time. Now, with the way I eat (3 meals), I'm often not hungry when it's time to eat. -
SonofanumpI am still stunned that Green beans, lentils and edamame is not considered healthy according to Paleo.

Neither is peanut butter, which was a huge disappointment. I'm not 100% strict (probably about 98%) but I gots to have my peanut butter (flavoring) in the casein shake. The lack of beans are a little disappointing when making Mark Sisson's Paleo Bison Chili. -

What if they made Paleo T Bell?Heretic;742072 wrote:Ah, so Paleo is my mortal enemy as of early this year. -
BR1986FBFab4Runner;742075 wrote:What if they made Paleo T Bell?
I don't eat the T Bell anymore but whoever came up with the idea of making taco shells out of Doritos is a genius. That's a double "bang for the buck" for most stoners. If they could somehow fit a Ho Ho into the mix they would strike trifecta "gold." -
HereticFab4Runner;742075 wrote:What if they made Paleo T Bell?
Right now, that would make T Bell a mortal enemy. I'm trying to both lose weight and save money, so I'm cutting fast food out of the equation and replacing it with fresh fruit. Which means I can afford to hate any one of them. Even if, as BR said, T Bell's Dorito-shell tacos is a perfect stoner food. Which makes me regret this decision. -

My current diet/routine
6:00 Wake up
6:30 - 2 eggs + 2 egg white, with ham, onions in grassfed butter, EVOO or coconut oil (all protiens and some veggies in one of these fats)
11:30 - Lunch usually left over protien and veggies from night before or protien and spinach/romaine salad.
5:30 - Workout
6:30-7 - Eat, protien/veggie. Will have a post workout protien smoothie (Isoflex) while I make dinner if I did a strength workout. Shake has 3-4 strawberries and some blueberries with the protien and water.
10:00-1030 - Bed
Would it be better to cut out breakfast and move lunch to about 11 and add a meal around 3? That is my current thought. Any feedback would be welcome.
Also if I did a 16/8 fasting would I want to do it everyday or just everyonce in awhile? -

You can do the 11am, 3pm thing.
I'm only doing the IF's 3 maybe 4x's per week. It's easiest on weekends since a) I can stop eating at 5:30pm Friday night b) I can sleep in on Saturday hence extending the fast to closer to 16 hours and c) my eating is all messed up on weekends anyhow and I'm lucky if I eat 2x's a day.
Good luck! -
OneBuckeyeI have lost about 35 pounds so far. So thankfully I haven't needed any luck yet. But i have been stuck around 190 for about 3 weeks. I can tell I have definately gained muscle and lost fat and got more defined upper abs during that time, but I still have that pesky fat around the waist. I am hoping fasting and cutting out some fruit will help me get down to 175 ish. I am finishing up my last week of P90x as well. I will probably start another round once I am done.
-
BR1986FBI meant good luck with the fast. Sucks at first with the hunger but it goes away. I use iced green tea to get me through. I know you've done a fine job with your program (not luck).

Nah that is not what I meant. I meant that P90x and Paleo are so straightforward and easy that the results come easy.
On a side note I did the 16/8 fasting over the weekend and promptly dropped 3 pounds. -
BR1986FBOneBuckeye;744904 wrote: On a side note I did the 16/8 fasting over the weekend and promptly dropped 3 pounds.
It's not difficult. I've actually cut out lunches and do a 14 hour every day, 16-17 on weekends. Win-win in that it saves money on packing lunches.
I have my 4 week weigh-in on Saturday. I'm expecting an impressive decrease in bodyfat. Probably only a 5-7 lb weight loss over 4 weeks but the fat decrease should be real nice.
