Preachernot recently. Floyd coming up at Half Time

I get tired of comments like this. Every year we have some of top recruiting classes in the country. Just because we get then early and don't many recruits who remain undecided until the very end, people say it's a disappointment. Why is that? Yeah there are some recruits I wish we got at the very end, but shouldn't we be happy with the players that commited early because they wanted to be Buckeyes from the get go. Besides what's the difference between getting a stud recruit early compared to late? Are they any less of a player because they didn't commit to the very end? I think some people are looking for excitement after football season, and put too much on the late stage recruiting.Cleveland Buck wrote: Another weak end to the class. -
devil1197Exactly, we all would like Floyd but he didn't want to be a Buckeye.

Gypsy Rose LeeWVU and the BE, by conference rule, do not take Prop 48 players. They only accept them if they qualify per NCAA rules. I believe the SEC is the only BCS conference that still takes props.

I've always found the rules to SEC recruiting to be unfair to the other conferences.Gypsy Rose Lee wrote: WVU and the BE, by conference rule, do not take Prop 48 players. They only accept them if they qualify per NCAA rules. I believe the SEC is the only BCS conference that still takes props. -
ironman02Urban Meyer really had a nice day. I'm still not sure why he made all the health stuff public, yet he hasn't begun the leave of absence. It hasn't hurt his recruiting one bit though.
As a Buckeye fan, losing Floyd really hurts, especially since he was an OSU lean up until this week. Floyd looks to be an impact player from the moment he steps on campus. Anderson is still up in the air from what I have heard, even though he committed today, but I wouldn't count on him changing his mind.
OSU still looks good with Henderson, Bryant, James, Roby, and maybe some others, so we'll see how this ends up. -

and that's okay--remember how we thought we "needed" Robert Rosedevil1197 wrote: Exactly, we all would like Floyd but he didn't want to be a Buckeye. -
Speedofsandironman02 , Meyer said he was going to help with recruiting, and he sure has. He is cutting back, though. He is not the coach using the in home visit to Hicks this week. He got in a workout 3 days in a row last week, people close to him can't remember last time that happened. After signing day he will get more relaxed. A #1 recruiting class helps.

ironman02speedofsand,
Yeah, Urban can rest easy now. Seems to me that he'll definitely be back on the sidelines next year, but if he isn't, he sure did stock the cupboard. Is there any truth to the rumor that Floyd was still an OSU lean when he arrived in San Antonio, but Powell and the Florida staff convinced him to change his mind? -

Urban is a POS IMO. It was NOTHING BUT a bunch of PR, feel sorry for me BS. He could have waited until after the bowl game to do what they did. IT was all planned out if you ask me.ironman02 wrote: Urban Meyer really had a nice day. I'm still not sure why he made all the health stuff public, yet he hasn't begun the leave of absence. ironman02I won't disagree with you, CBF. Something about the whole situation seems a little off to me.
I give credit to Meyer for recruiting though. Recruiting is a dirty game and he gets the job done, as much as I hate to see it. -
SpeedofsandFlorida's been on his radar all along, I think he was 50/50 a week ago. Easley I think talked with him as much as Powell. What a group of defensive front 7. Some of them will be on the field tackling Mark Ingram next season.
Floyd this week ...at the team hotel, he was walking a young boy around to make sure he got his program signed by all of the players, prodding the players to sign. My Gator friend asked if he knew the kid, he said "nah."
Put that on top of the story of the bake sale and you have a great young man. -

Oh, the guy can flat out recruit, no question. But that whole fiasco just reeked of BS IMO. First he was going to quit, then just a break. Then all the stuff about what a workaholic he is (who cares, every college head coach is, they have to!). Now I heard on the radio that there is questions about him even taking any time off!ironman02 wrote: I won't disagree with you, CBF. Something about the whole situation seems a little off to me.

I think after Fla loss to Bama...then going to "just" the Sugar and playing a shit team like UC....he felt the need to get Fla and himself back in the media. It was classless bullshit IMO. -
devil1197He won't take that much time off no more than any other coach next year. He was going to coach from day 1.
It was all about his family yet he doesn't even inform them of his plan to not retire until right before the press conference the next day.
All I know is OSU is loaded for next season, Top 5 program, and will be right in the hunt for a NC. -
ironman02I have no basis for this other than my own personal opinion, but I wonder if Meyer might actually step down after signing day. I think his health is somewhat of an issue, and maybe he just agreed to stay on until he finished out this recruiting class. It just seems weird to say you're stepping down, then decide to take a leave of absence, but kind of ease into that leave when you're having to be admitted to the hospital just a few weeks ago.
I could be way off base, but as I said before, something doesn't seem right. How crazy would it be if he quit after signing day? Maybe everything is just as he says it is...help with recruiting, take some time off, then come back ready to go. I just don't see how his stress-related issues will magically go away and not come back if he returns to coaching. -
devil1197Iron, then Meyer would be a huge f'n liar as he has told many of his recruits including Floyd that he will be coaching next season.
-
ironman02
Yeah, exactly. But if they are already signed by that time, how many would transfer out? They might just stay after Urban would play the "I really thought I would be coaching, but my health just won't allow it."devil1197 wrote: Iron, then Meyer would be a huge f'n liar as he has told many of his recruits including Floyd that he will be coaching next season.
Again, just thinking out loud. Not trying to say that this will actually happen. -
PreacherIf that happens then the NCAA should step in and release the kids of their committment.
-
devil1197I don't know really and to be honest don't really care.
Ohio State is still in contention for some of the best prospects in the nation and will fill out the class nicely. This is one year were we can not have a loaded class because of all the returning starters for next season. -
ironman02
You're exactly right. Need to finish with at least Henderson and Bryant and then really get after it for the Class of 2011.devil1197 wrote:

darbypitcher22The NCAA can't release the kids of their committments; only the university to which they've been given can. At least that's my understanding
-
SpeedofsandIts as much mental as physical imo. Meyer has to reduce his stress. After the Sugar Bowl he said 'In my gut, I feel like I will be able to return next season.' He really would benefit from some time with Earle Bruce. He recently said he felt like he never worked a day in his many years of coaching. Meyer needs to pick up some of that perspective of enjoying what you do instead of working into a frenzy to be the best.
-
devil1197Meyer will coach, end of story.
It was a spur of the moment reaction that he immediately regreted doing. He took it back the next day making up a story of a great inspiring practice lol.
He is always going to coach. -
darbypitcher22You do know that Urban worked for Earle Bruce(at least I think he did when he was a GA @ Ohio State) right?
-
j_crazyI say his rescinding of the resignation was financial. Much like Billy Donovan 2 years ago.
