Ohio State Recruiting Thread

Hicks will be a Longhorn....I have thought that since day one...do I lose sleep over it nope...The depth the Buckeyes have at LB is just crazy...kinda like the RB position....I would like to see Hicks playing in Columbus....but not a big deal....
  • devil1197
Yeah I'd really love Hicks but its one position where we will be alright.

    I'd rather get Henderson/Moses
  • devil1197
Hopefully Brown will realize that he is an athlete and can be used at OSU.

I hear we may find out more on him sometime tonight or tomorrow as far as his thought process.

If Hicks goes to UT, hopefully Brown will decide to not play QB and join the Buckeyes.
  • devil1197
Latest I got from BuckeyeGrove on Brown.

Supposedly the Brown house is split on what school is the right choice. Brown seems to be leaning towards OSU while his parents want UC.

Louisville also has a visit with him.
  • Quint
    Thanks for the info devil1197!
  • charliehustle14
Idk why Brown thinks he'll be a QB at the next level. He was a good HS QB and led one hell of a team, but I haven't seen anything from him that tells me he'll translate as a QB at the next level.

Reed looks like he has more potential at QB at the next level, IMO.
  • devil1197
Yeah and tbh Reed will be moved to the defensive secondary imo. He'll get his chance this season to see if he can leap in the depth chart behind TP but OSU will have at least 1 Top QB coming in next season (Miller or Jones). That guy will be red shirted and given the reigns after Pryor graduates.

The Hicks recruiting process is hilarious. BuckeyeGrove's admin has sources that say Texas and Bucknuts admin has sources who say UF.

I just saw that Gio Bernard decommits N.D. a couple days ago , and Derek Roback was offered to N.D. as a QB.
This thread is jacked again. Henderson's dad should talk to some of Kiffin's past recruits, he will be a tOSU lock. Shame he is a point shy of N.D. grades. Anywhere but USC Mr. Henderson. Don't fall for Eddie O's strip tease.
  • devil1197
That is what ND's 4th QB lol.
  • Quint
Derek Roback from Waverly? If so. . .that is freaking awesome! Congrats from a Southern Ohio guy!
  • rocket31
roback will likely not play QB for nd, but i love his game.
  • ironman02
I've seen Roback play a handful of times. He has good size, great speed at the high school level, and a strong arm. He played QB as a junior and senior at Waverly, but I thought he was at his best as a WR his sophomore year. He made all kinds of plays as a kick returner throughout his HS career, was great as a scrambling QB, and he's also an excellent punter.

As others have said, I doubt he ever plays QB in college, but I could be wrong. He does have the size and athleticism to contribute elsewhere, most likely on the defensive side of the ball or possibly as a TE if he puts on a little weight. Obviously Brian Kelly has plans for him or he wouldn't offer him this late in the game.

Anyone hear that Kiffin was supposed to have an in-home with Henderson tonight? I really worry that he's somehow going to end up at USC or UF, but the comments by his father about stability at OSU really give me hope.

Apparently no one really knows anything about Hicks since experts are saying OSU, UF, and UT. Who are these guys getting info from? Probably just "educated" guesses instead of actual inside info. I'm still thinking Texas, but I would be thrilled if it was OSU, and sickened if it's UF.

If OSU can finish with Henderson and one of Brown/Moses/James, I'll be content. Hicks would be a great bonus. Does anyone know for sure if OSU is planning on taking 2 more in this class, or if they're able to take 3 or more somehow?

    1. Someone on buckeyeplanet said Kiffen was back in his hotel at 7:00, his OV must not have lasted long.

    2. Another BP guy says a basketball teamate said Hicks was all UT in the fall but has been going back and forth on things lately, which is pretty much what everyone else has been saying. I don't think he is a UT lock as much as everyone thinks but they are probably the leaders.

I see him @ LB after a year of adding some weight.

Guess we'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out about Hicks....

Not a big surprise, but Tom Lemming says the Henderson sweepstakes seems to be coming down to Ohio State, USC and Minnesota:
Lemming said he has no idea what Henderson's decision will be, but he thinks Ohio State, Southern Cal and Minnesota are three of the top schools being considered.

Lemming also said that Hicks is not an elite talent a LB, just the best out of a weak class at that position. He said he is no AJ Hawk or even a Marcus Freeman or Bobby Carpenter and it would not kill any schools recruiting class to lose him. Still I would like to see him as a Buckeye.

AJ Hawk wasn't AJ Hawk coming out of high school.

If lemming is correct that Minnesota USC and Ohio State are in the top three then I feel pretty good about OSU landing him. I am most worried about ND then Florida and USC. Sorry Rocks but I don't think he is staying in Minny. :(
  • gorocks99
Yeah, I've resigned myself that he won't. None of the national outlets report interest (besides Lemming), and there just isn't a history of Cretin-Durham guys going to the U.
  • devil1197
Hicks will inform all the coaches of his decision via phone call before the press conference tomorrow.

No one knows anything at the moment on his decision, this kid has kept it on lock down. All the predictions seem to be opinions based on, well nothing.

I feel a lot better after seeing Minnesota, OSU, and USC....

OneBuckeye wrote: My thoughts about the rest of the class and why I thnk it is a very good class.

Darryl Baldwin DE 6-6 250 4.69 5.7 Solon, OH - I think Darryl is a good DE but may find a place at TE and make a big impact there. 2011 is loaded with DEs. Will make an impact on the program.

Drew Basil K 6-2 188 - 5.4 Chillicothe, OH - Good kicker... how many 5* kickers are there? none. One of the best in 2010

Corey Brown ATH 6-0 186 4.47 5.9 Springfield, PA - Quite kid that doesn't like the lime light, his moves have been compared to reggie bush. Will make a good WR and have a big impact.

Christian Bryant DB 5-10 173 4.46 5.9 Cleveland, OH -Top 10 corner in the nation got great reviews from AA bowl practices.

David Durham DE 6-3 228 4.7 5.6 Charlotte, NC - Under rated kid IMO who uses his hands on the LOS like no one else, and has a high motor, will become a great DE, the next Nathan Williams except I think he has better moves off the line.

Taylor Graham QB 6-4 211 - 5.8 Wheaton, IL - Not sure he'll make an impact, he will provide good depth and thats about it.

Chad Hagan LB 6-2 230 4.4 5.5 Canonsburg, PA - Not sure where this kid will fit in, or if he is a LB or Safety there isn't enough video on him to draw a conclusion but could be a diamond in the rough. Nobody wanted him because of his heart condition and now that is 100% behind him.

Johnathon Hankins DT 6-3 326 5.1 5.5 Detroit, MI - Big kid with high motor. As long as he stays in shape and can play with a high motor when he is in, he will be disruptive. Just watch his video. Will make an impact at a position with not much depth.

Carlos Hyde RB 6-1 230 - 5.8 Fork Union, VA - Power runner people have been looking for but a year late. We are stacked at RB but he provides good depth. There will be a great competition at RB and the best will play. Not sure how he will turn out in the long run but he will at least push the guys ahead of him.

James Louis WR 5-11 178 4.4 5.8 Delray Beach, FL - Playmaker, I think he would make a better CB than WR, I think he will make an impact where ever he ends up. I think he could pull a Flash Thomas and transfer if he doesn't see PT early. Not sure how he will end up.

Scott McVey LB 5-11 215 4.5 5.6 Cleveland, OH - Smart kid, high motor will be the next AJ Hawk or JL and you can take that to the bank.

J.T. Moore DE 6-4 220 4.75 5.6 Youngstown, OH - Not sure if he will make a big impact, I have heard things good and bad about him. I wouldn't count on him making an impact, but he was a very early offer and commit so JT must have seen something about him he liked to offer that early.

Andrew Norwell OL 6-7 275 - 5.9 Cincinnati, OH - Would have been the #2 OL prospect if he hadn't got hurt IMO. He is good and will be the forgotten prospect that makes a huge impact.

Verlon Reed ATH 6-2 185 4.5 5.6 Columbus, OH - He is starting at QB but I think he ends up at safety. I think he ends up being a depth guy.

Bradley Roby WR 6-0 175 4.4 5.6 Suwanee, GA - Starting at CB and I think he will be the next 3 star CB to be a bonafide starter, ala Jenkins and Chekwa.

Roderick Smith RB 6-3 220 4.5 5.9 Fort Wayne, IN - Most underrated RB in the 2010 class. A huge power back. Again we are loaded at RB and he will at least push others to be better.

Jamel Turner DE 6-3 210 4.6 5.8 Fork Union, VA - Another forgotten stud in the class. He would be a 5* had he not gotten into trouble and went to Fork Union. Hopefully he can keep his head on straigh because he is loaded with talent and will be an impact player.

Tyrone Williams WR 6-7 215 4.5 5.7 East Cleveland, OH - Good tall WR but there is a lot of depth at WR and he will have to earn his time. I expect him to be a kid that gets buried and makes an impact his RS JR and or RS SR year.
I don't agree with all of these so called "depth guys". If recruiting is successful every year. I wouldn't expect any player except the occasional 5* #1 player at his position guy to make an immediate impact. Otherwise redshirt or play special teams as a Feshman and don't start until a redshirt Sophomore or Junior year means you're more than a "depth guy".

Scot McVey will be the next AJ Hawk or JL??? The only great 5-11 LB to play for Ohio State was Chris Spielman. Twice an All-American and a Lombardi award winner, and led his NFL team in tackles 9 straight years.
