Ohio State Recruiting Thread

Cleveland St. Ignatius plays some funny scheme like a 3-5-3 on defense, and while I may be wrong it seems to me like they put alot of responsibility on their LB's. Iggy has had some great LB's in the past, and I don't know where McVey rates, but he's pretty damn good.
  • Quint
I watched McVey play earlier in the year. . . It was only one game, but he was pretty damn good from what I saw. Motor never stopped, he's got great size, great speed. . . He'll be a good one for the Bucks.

Great breakdown OneBuckeye. I watched McVey 4 times this year and he is impressive. Great football IQ, never quits on a play, and he plays hurt. Plus he's really smart like OneBuckeye said, so grades are no problem here.
what does that # stand for
The number is the rival rank. Not sure what it implies or how it is calculated. But Brown Bryant Norwell and Smith have the highest at 5.9 and Basil has the lowest at 5.4 of OSU commits.

Ohio State get's a kid from Glenville :o But seriously a nice add to the buckeye class.

Mcvey's size worries me a little bit though especially if he add's 20-30 pounds to his frame does that affect his speed?

Hicks is announcing on Friday. My money is on Texas.
  • Quint
I heard he was going to announce on signing day. . . do you have a link?

Call it wishful thinking. . . but I think Hicks chooses the Bucks!!!!
  • OneBuckeye
he is announcing on friday. If he picks OSU then I hope have extra schollarships for moses henderson brown and possibly anderson.
  • devil1197
Bucknuts confirmed Hicks is announcing Friday.

From what I hear its Texas so we won't have to worry about fitting multiple guys into the final two spots.

Brown wants to play QB and Tressel told him no. I highly doubt he comes to OSU, probably stays at UC or there was talks of GT.

I'll be very content with Henderson and Moses finish, if Hicks does come our way then they'll fit him in. But Anderson had his chance and now the ship has sailed.
  • Quint
I've been hearing a lot about Anderson being a possibility, but I was under the impression that his grades were not good enough. What is the issue there?

    Possibilities:
    Seantrel Henderson
    Jordan Hicks
    Matt James
    Dominique Brown
    Morgan Moses
    Latwan Anderson
  • devil1197
Anderson said a stupid comment about him going to OSU if scholarships open up, well he already had his shot.

Quint, add Morgan Moses to your list.
  • Quint
Anderson strikes me as the type that will bring drama along with him. I'm not heartbroken he's not a Buckeye.

I don't want to call a kid out with a thread title so, what is the deal with Howard, Mr. Ohio ? I'm guessing his grades are an issue ? No offers ?

Yep. Isn't qualified and didn't take care of business in the classroom. I don't think that talking about a kid having trouble making the grade is calling someone out.

These guys know what they have to do; sadly, too many of them simply aren't able to qualify (or don't give enough effort).

As for those remaining...I don't see any of them selecting OSU. Certainly not Hicks or Henderson. For whatever reason, Tressel is much better at getting kids who commit early than he is getting them late (Pryor being the one notable exception).
  • OneBuckeye
Sportingnews recruitnik predicted Hicks to OSU.

Writer, I think that is a misconception, but Tressel just doesn't put on the dog and pony show that most kids who commit late want to see. He wants them to want to come to tOSU. Which is fine by me. I think that is why we get Henderson because his Dad is running the show and he does not think kindly to that sort of thing it appears.

What's a misconception -- that JT doesn't get big names to commit close to or on signing day?

    That's not a misconception, it's a fact.

And yes, I agree it has to do with Tressel wanting kids who truly want to come, and his not being one of those coaches that tells a kid whatever he wants to hear, just to get him to sign.

I hope I'm wrong and Hicks and Henderson (and James since we're dreaming here) all say yes to OSU. But I believe at the end of the day, OSU will be 0 for 3 on those guys.
  • Tinkertrain
I think OSU will go 1 for 3 but not exactly sure which one?
  • OneBuckeye
    Tressel Late big time commits

    2010 - Bryant
    2009 - Hall
2008 - Pryor, Keith Wells (OOS kid)
    2007 - Heyward, Hines
2006 - Browning, Gibson, Larry Grant, Ray Small
2005 - Lawrance Wilson, Mo Wells, Brian Robiski
2004 - Devon Lyons, Kyle Mitchum, Nader Abdallah

Looking at the list many are glenville kids, but there have been plenty of big times recruits that tressel has gotten in late Jan and Feb. I think the whole thing is blown out of proportion.

I hope we get either Hicks or Henderson. I'm content with getting 1, but we can't let both get away.

Well just an example. Howard played great against poor competition this season and was pretty bad against good teams.

OSU knew they had Hyde coming in and then Smith committed early and he is the 6th rated RB in the nation.

Howard has no big name teams on his offer list which is another example.
  • devil1197
Bradley Roby got a late offer from Georgia and Bama called to tell him they had a spot for him if he wanted to come.

He told them OSU was the place he wanted to be!

Hicks will be going to Texas. He has no ties to OSU and really hasn't shown that great interest on the surface. I see a good number of analyst picking OSU and I am thinking their just guessing.
  • Speedofsand
Majority of what I see this afternoon is Hicks to Texas, the best sources are still quiet.

I think it has always been Texas.

Can't blame him at all for going to UT, if the rumors are true.

Mack Brown is a class act and Will Muschamp is an awesome defensive coordinator and LB's coach.

Not to be a homer, but OSU has insane depth at LB right now. So much depth that we haven't even seen the likes of Bell, Whiting, and Sabino who were all very highly ranked LB recruits. Hicks is a great player but it'd be highly doubtful he'd play right away...which I'm sure he's very interested in.

I'm sure seeing Sergio Kindle play for Texas and knowing he'll be used in the same manner really influenced Hicks, as well.
