College Basketball Random Chatter 2015-2016 Season

  • reclegend22
Great acquisition for Duke. Despite the departures of Tyus Jones and Quinn Cook, arguably the best guard combo in college basketball, the Blue Devils once again will feature one of the nation's premier backcourts in 2015-16 -- Thornton, Allen and Kennard. Kennard is the least heralded of the three, but I firmly believe he'll have a similar impact that Jon Scheyer did as a newcomer in 2006-07. Kid is a legit all-around player.

The Duke staff visited Brandon Ingram for one final time today. Most speculate this as a two-team race at this point, between Duke and North Carolina. Hopefully that visit went relatively well. With the addition of Ingram, and Thornton, Kennard and Jeter already on board, Duke might once again have the best crop of frosh in the land by the end of next season.

I don't think Plumlee will be returning. He has more than enough credits to graduate and going into the military.

Ben Howland gets top SG Malik Newman to Mississippi State for the upcoming year. Definitely sold him on playing the PG spot, despite him being a scoring guard, ala Westbrook. Newman picked MSU over Kentucky and Kansas.

    Damn!

Brandon Ingram ready to announce any second now.

For anyone else with nothing more productive to do with their time this evening, here is a link to the live stream:

    And Duke it is.

Duke-Kentucky is going to be fucking fun in Chicago. Cannot wait.

Not surprised. Looked like it was gonna be Carolina, but his dad was very leery of the possibility of sanctions.

Saw a tweet from Jeff Goodman that UNC is getting hurt in recruiting by the academic scandal. You would have a better idea than I would

Honestly, I don't pay that close attention to recruiting. Just the real big names. And I haven't followed the scandal too closely either. It sickens me that they are going through it. But there is no doubt in my mind that ANY school going trough something like this would suffer.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I think the NCAA is going to throw the book at them. Not sure what all they can do, they can take the 05 championship. But we all know who won it. They will take a schollie or 2 a year. Probably 3-5 year probation. A couple years of no postseason. I don't know?

The classes in question were offered to the entire student body and it was as close to a 50/50 spilt between athletes and non in the classes. The NCAA has to prove that the basketball program steered the players to those classes. Which as of now(unless I'm mistaken), the only player they have on record is Rashad McCants. Who by all accounts has been a train wreck since leaving school.

But Ingram is going to be a fantastic player next year. Dookies have to be the favorite to win it all and repeat.
  • wildcats20
Ingram is EXACTLY what Carolina needs too. A wing scorer, something they haven't had in a long time.

@jeffborzello: Brandon Ingram said at McDonald's that he would've likely committed to UNC in the fall if there were no NCAA issues. https://t.co/BUoLJpTS4k

I read that as well. That lingering cloud over the program certainly is good for business for the rest of the ACC.

Duke should now have the top recruiting class in the country for a second straight year.

Just stop. I don't care they won a title and UK didn't. They did not have the best recruiting class last year.

Just stop what? Almost every recruiting outlet declared Duke to have the No. 1 class in 2014. I am reporting a fact. Not an opinion.
  • reclegend22
    Haha chill out.

Last thing I will say on this matter is that the recruiting services ranked Duke No. 1 in 2014, and there's a good chance that Duke will earn that status again in 2015. Whether or not Duke actually had "the best" class is probably up for debate, but I don't really care. Duke's '14 class brought home the hardware.
  • Laley23
Ill be honest, I had no clue Duke ended up #1. I think its crazy, but will admit the ignorance.

I still recall Trey Lyles and KAT as the #1 and #2 players in their class. That obviously changed (especially Lyles).
  • Azubuike24
Probably depends on if UK gets Diallo, Maker or Murray.

If they somehow got 2 of the 3, they probably edge Duke out for #1.

We also have to see where they rank Thornton (and Murray if he reclassifies). Hard to believe Murray wouldn't be in the top 5 after he dominated the Hoops Summit. Possibly in the top 3, as he out-played Ben Simmons and was as good or better than Skal.

30 second clock next year. I hope they cut the amount of timeouts as well
  • Azubuike24
I'd be all for just making it 6 timeouts for the whole game. 5 per half, especially the first half, is excessive.

Are u talking about TV timeouts? I personally think there should only be one at 15,10,5 and then 4 timeouts given to each team for the entire game. Speed up play a bit, every other sport does TV timeouts every 5 mins of game play

    Total timeouts.

TV timeouts occur under 16, 12, 8 and 4. That's never going to change. However, 5 team timeouts for a half is too many. 6 total team timeouts for the game would be fair.

Diallo to Kansas. Another UK recruiting loss to KU.
  • Midstate01
Apparently I've not paid good attention for a long time. I didn't think teams got 5 timeouts per half. I thought Matta was constantly using a timeout before the half because it was use it or lose it. Didn't realize they still got 5 in the 2nd half. Of maybe I'm misreading that. I'd be OK with 15,10,5 and let teams have 3 timeouts per half but only 1 full per half. And only 1 for the final 2 minutes.

    That is just not correct.
