College Basketball Random Chatter 2015-2016 Season

Also, this is probably why Jefferson did not return. Had he come back for just the ACC Tournament/NCAA Tournament, that would've meant he plays 5 extra games and there's no way he would've gotten it.

Since when did it move from 20% to 30%??

I don't pay much attention to RS on if a player is eligible...but it was DEFINITELY 20% my whole life and in college.
  • Iliketurtles
Lol I always thought the rule was less than 1/3 of the teams games and you couldn't play in any after the 2nd half of the season. But everything I'm seeing now does say 30% and I'm not finding anything about it ever being different from that.

Looks like it changed in the summer of 2007. I had no idea when it changed so had to google it, haha.

Thanks! Knew I wasn't crazy. I graduated college in '09, and knew it was still 20% as of 2006-07 season. Makes sense it changed right after that, since that's the last year I've payed attention to RS (until the school announces one way or the other).

Read earlier today that the University of North Carolina will make a decision soon as to whether the Dean E. Smith Center will be renovated or the basketball team will move out. As a fan of the rivalry, I'd be sad to see it close.

As for Grayson Allen, I think college is where the kid wants to be right now. So good for him. And good for Duke. With Allen, the Blue Devils can win a national championship. He'll likely be the early front-runner among returning players for NPOTY.

Thomas Bryant returning to Indiana for another year, and with him, he will bring a top 10 Pre-Season Ranking.

Georgia Tech (LOL) hires Josh Pastner away from Memphis. I have no idea why.

Memphis and their fans all going wild today.

They will likely pursue Chattanooga's Matt McCall, who should've been courted by Tech. Memphis is going to win big time here.

Nothing says "LET'S WIN!" more than hiring a coach whose record has gotten worse virtually every (if not actually every, which might be the case) year he's been at his old job.
  • Laley23
    Pastner is terrible.

Jeff Boals leaving OSU to take the Stony Brook head job.

Pastner got a 6 year deal. Lol.

Oh. Wow. That is just...well, there's a reason why teams like GT are perennial second-tier squads in their conference and that sort of decision-making plays into that.

That sort of decision-making is why Georgetown is now a rowing school.

Hard to believe they went to a national title 12 years ago

    Thornton is gone.
  • Iliketurtles
Yeah figured it would happen on well. Best of luck to him.

Sounds like he was pushed out?? Dad is not happy with K.

    Happens everywhere buddy.

They're pissed off because K begged Thornton to skip his senior year of high school to come to Duke early when Tyus Jones left for the NBA. He did, wasn't that good because he wasn't ready, and is now being discarded because Frank Jackson is coming in. Duke is also at 13 schollies with Thornton, but Marques Bolden wants in at Duke now. So basically, thanks for nothing, now get out.

Frank Jackson will be the PG, Allen will handle the ball some as well, so Thornton is no longer needed.
  • Azubuike24
CBB politics at it's best. IMO, its a mistake for Duke to give up on Thornton, given his age, but K is looking to win NOW, and he sees Thornton as just getting in the way next year.
  • birddog23
So by bringing in Frank Jackson, Coach K is "pushing" out Thornton? Huh?

Yes, Derryck helped out Duke a ton by foregoing his senior year and reclassifying. But please tell me how K is pushing him out.

Because he doesn't want to leave? Based on his dad's reaction, it's pretty apparent he has been asked to transfer.

Look it happens everywhere, every year. I wasn't trying to start anything other than telling the kid to grow up. You always know there is the chance of being recruited over at a top program. I also found it interesting as his dad took to Twitter with comments. Usually it's just a "mutual" decision as far as the public comments go. But not the case here. I found that odd.
  • Azubuike24
The only thing ridiculous about the Thornton transfer is...he was asked to re-classify because of Duke's lack of PG's in 2015-16. Sure, it was his choice, but to then be asked to leave just a year later, is probably why they are speaking out. His loss will be felt most on the defensive end. Allen and Kennard aren't exactly defensive wizards.
