I have been saying this for awhile. The Answer;1778378 wrote:Glad to see Harris get the start at pg. Runs the team better then Lyle. Would still like to see Harris and Lyle together with Lyle at the 2. Penn state isn't good but any win is good for this team right now.
Harris puts more pressure on the defense that Lyle does with the ball in his hands.
Put Lyle at the 2.
Sit Loving....permanently.
Start Harris, Lyle, Bates-Diop, Tate and Giddings -

This would be great, but will never happen. We can only hope Loving gets suspended again.wkfan;1778443 wrote:I have been saying this for awhile.

HereticYeah, if Matta didn't sit Amir permanently, NO ONE will be sat permanently.
As long as they can win the games they should, continue to progress and maybe get a game or so that'd be considered a legit upset, they have the ability to go 10-8 in the B1G season, which would be really nice considering how things looked in the early going. The main issue is that some days, they just don't show much of an effort and get crushed against the sort of team you'd expect them to be amped to play. And it's really not the sort of thing you can lay at one guy, because you'll see some guys seemingly go through the motions and other guys maybe trying too much and becoming turnover machines.
It's just a side effect of this sort of youth. The one true vet (Loving) didn't play a great deal in B1G action as a freshman and saw a big cut in PT last year after his suspension. I think he's a decent complementary player, but not really the guy I'd pick to lead a young team. Tate is a second-year guy who did have a strong finish to last year to build on and is working to expand his game, while Keita didn't see much time last year and Kam's finally growing more into his role and getting more PT this year after disappearing about when B1G play started last year. And everyone else is either a freshman or a first-year player in this program (Thompson). It's a work in progress; watching them is fun some days and pure agony on others as they commit war crimes against the sport of basketball. -
Laley23Anyone know is Harris is starting again??

Think he's starting going forward for now.Laley23;1778818 wrote:Anyone know is Harris is starting again?? -

Good. Got him for super cheap on DK lol.Midstate01;1778821 wrote:Think he's starting going forward for now. -
Laley23What's the point of not starting Lyle, if you bring him into the game after 2 minutes and then leave him in after 3 awful turnovers???

He's gonna turn it over... regardless of his minutes.Laley23;1778835 wrote:What's the point of not starting Lyle, if you bring him into the game after 2 minutes and then leave him in after 3 awful turnovers??? -

Right, but Matta said he didn't start him cause of turnovers. Not gonna learn if you don't pull him as well for turnovers when he gets in the game.Midstate01;1778851 wrote:He's gonna turn it over... regardless of his minutes. -
gerb131Big W in OT on the road. So jekyll and hyde

Azubuike24If the Buckeyes can steal a home game against Iowa, Maryland or Michigan State, they should be favored in 4 other Big Ten games (also at Wisconsin and at Michigan State on the slate). 19-12, 11-7, and likely a 5 or 6 seed in the Big Ten would give them a good shot. They also need Kentucky to keep winning.
Unfortunately, I think OSU's out of conference results are going to really hurt them, especially the 3 early losses. Besides UK, their best win is Northern Illinois. -

Azubuike24They should get a decently easy game if they finish in the 5, 6 or 7 spot. They would then get a shot at a top 4 seed and a quality win.

vball10setHarris needs to play point, Williams needs to be in more, and Loving needs to sit more.

Midstate01Loving is killing them today. Can't even make layups. 0-7

The AnswerLoving and Lyle both need to sit. Really could have used this one today.

se-alumLyle just isn't a PG, but is stuck there because we only have 1 true PG on the roster.

Then put that true point guard (Harris) at the point and move Lyle to the 2, Bates-Diop and Tate to the 3 and 4, Giddens or Thompson at the 5.se-alum;1779639 wrote:Lyle just isn't a PG, but is stuck there because we only have 1 true PG on the roster.

I don't disagree with that, but you have to have a PG on the bench somewhere, and Lyle is the only option this year.wkfan;1779654 wrote:Then put that true point guard (Harris) at the point and move Lyle to the 2, Bates-Diop and Tate to the 3 and 4, Giddens or Thompson at the 5.

If Harris gets into foul trouble or needs a break, slide Lyle in for a bit. Just have to manage the breaks to keep fresh legs, etc.se-alum;1779822 wrote:I don't disagree with that, but you have to have a PG on the bench somewhere, and Lyle is the only option this year.

That and, while Harris is more a natural PG than Lyle, he still is turnover prone and can be a total liability on offense at least a decent portion of the time. I think it's really a situation where Thad has to play both, with whoever is showing more that night getting the majority of the playing time. Lyle is more erratic, but he also has the ability to put points up quickly, which is sort of important when you're talking about a team that can go into extending scoring slumps with the best (worst?) of them.se-alum;1779822 wrote:I don't disagree with that, but you have to have a PG on the bench somewhere, and Lyle is the only option this year.

Mulva5 points in the first half from the starters. That's crazy.

gerb131Loving is just lost. Too many dumb fouls 49 feet from the basket.

HereticLast night was just another example of how all the talent is young and how the most experienced guy, who should be the leader, has a bad habit of disappearing when needed.
Lyle was really good, Kam hit a couple shots and Thompson was solid inside, but Tate was kind of off (had some moments, but wasn't really a presence and the flagrant wasn't exactly a well-timed move), Bates-Diop and Loving were persona non grata and about the only time I heard Giddons' name was when he left the court with 0 points and 4 fouls with 10-15 minutes still to play. And the thing is, the way the season's gone, you could safely say that if Bates-Diop and Loving were on last night, Lyle would have been a liability and Kam would have been 0-5 shooting. They just don't all get on the same page at the same time. It's almost always a matter of 2-3 guys having good games, a couple guys being solid support and a couple guys being invisible. -
