Of all of the mentioned candidates that were realistic this was the one I was hoping for most.

Holtmann is great, and his wife is pretty attractive (and nice)!!

Holtmann would be a good hire but I really like Buzz Williams.

McDermott is making it sound like OSU would be a step down from Creighton. Boy am I glad they didn't hire him.

Gene Smith has to be in the top ten dumbest College AD's.

Holtmann is the hire, presser later today.

Given how shitty Ohio State has handled the whole situation over the last year, I guess this isn't a horrible outcome. They could've been turned away by everyone relevant and been forced to hire someone like Jent.

Thank god. Such a shame to see Matta go but he simply lost it

Matta's health was too much for him to overcome sadly it was past time for him to go.

After thinking it was McDermott, this seems like it's a grand slam. Even so, a very good hire. Was on my personal shortlist for Indiana.

Was never going to be Jent (especially due to his son). Also, Matta asked Gene to fire him as he was done with coaching. They made it seem like it was Gene's choice so that Matta could collect his remaining $$. That's the reason why Gene didn't have someone lined up. Never intended to get rid of Matta.

    What about his son?

I think it's more believable that Gene Smith botched the process than he went along with some scheme to get Matta the rest of his money.

Did he not already sign a LOI? How did he get out of it to be part of the 2017-2018 team?

Butler isn't a POS school, and they let him out of it.

Did not know that they could let him out of it....thought it was binding.

    Exactly.

Schools can let kids go, but they don't always do it.

It happens all the time. It's only binding if the school is run by assholes, and doesn't release the kid.

I have to believe he and Holtmann had a 'discussion' which led to this ;)

Which surprises me because we have an obvious lack of talent.

agree, but one or the other (or both) didn't feel it was a good fit...for now, at least
