College Basketball Random Chatter 2013-2014 Season

McGary needs to get 30 min a game. Minimum. If he can be in that 30-33 range that's huge and will help Michigan out a ton. The low 20s in minutes isn't going to cut it. That's my take.

maybe web knows a little more about the situation.

He had a preseason back issue and didn't even play until the 3rd or 4th game. He is building up his minutes.

He missed first two regular season games. He's now played 8 games.

He played 33 minutes against FSU, 30 against Charlotte, and 27 against Duke.

How do you only play 23 minutes against AZ? I can't remember but I don't think he was in foul trouble at all yesterday.

I'm not real sure. Guess my only point is he'll get back to 30+ minutes consistently. Seems he should be there now though. Same happened last year. Seemed like it took forever for him to get consistent full games.

The great thing was that, earlier, I think during the Arizona-Michigan game, the announcers there were basically saying that after a couple rocky weeks, you were seeing the foul-calling level out.

And then that abortion of "entertainment" happened.

Like Ohio State, though certainly not to the extent of the Buckeyes, Syracuse is a highly-ranked team that so far this season has been hard to really measure due to a lesser-quality, or perceived lesser-quality, schedule. The Orange played in Maui against Minnesota, Cal and Baylor, and hosted Indiana at home, but I think the jury is still out on all four of those teams. Baylor has looked the best of the four, but historically, they're just not that tough late in the year under Scott Drew. This year might be different, we'll see.

Syracuse is playing St. John's today at the Garden. Controlled the game early by as many as 15 points, but the Johnnies have rallied. Still not sure where Syracuse fits into things yet, but I think they deserve more recognition than they've received. They're almost ignored when discussing the top teams. It's a very good team.

Syracuse, legit. Ohio State, book is still out.

While unblemished, it's hard to say that if Ohio State was to step on the court today against 2-loss Duke, North Carolina or 3-loss Kansas, Kentucky, they would really have great confidence in winning.

    Greg Whittington going to Rutgers.

This is good news for Big Ten fans. Definitely capable of an all-conference type season when they join next year.

    Yep.

St. John's locked in a tight one with Syracuse. 58 all in the Garden with 6:25 left on Fox Sports 1.

This is how I feel. I think Ohio State is no doubt top 10 good, but beyond that I don't really know because they haven't needed to show it. Good thing polls don't matter in basketball.

I concur as well. Fwiw, I think tsun has more talent from top to bottom than OSU, they just don't have the leader to pull it together. Webbie, who do you think will emerge as the floor general moving forward?

That's a good question, because I don't see anyone on the roster that has that kind of take-charge personality. McGary does in his actual play, but I don't think so as a vocal leader. LeVert? No. Walton? No. Stauskas? Maybe. Spike? Not on the floor enough. GRIII? Hell no. Everyone else? No.

Gary Parrish pretty much took on this exact argument after we had it, haha.

Again, I don't know "how" good this OSU team is. I don't care who they have played. They have looked impressive. Beating Marquette as bad as they did on Marquette home court was a quality win no matter what anyone thinks. They pounded a decent Maryland team. As the article says, OSU is winning impressively overall.
And having watched other teams, including those above, I have NO question OSU could play/beat any of them.
Its still early and some teams will get better. But what OSU has going for them that some others don't, is experience. And they have it in the back court which can/does go a LONG ways. And defensively, this team is VERY good. That will keep them in any game. Right now, no one can say they are head and shoulders above the rest. So OSU is obviously in the conversation of top teams in the country.

    Nice post, I concur.

In what I guess is a good thing, my expectation of this team is to lose in the sweet 16. Anything beyond that will just be gravy to me. My disappointment eggs are in the 'Zona basket this year. I'm gonna post some pictures from the White Out.

Couldn't this really be said about anyone at this point in the season? No one has seperated themselves from the pack.
  • Azubuike24
Yes, obviously. That was the point of the post.

Florida/Memphis playing a good one at MSG.

Aaric Murray just put up 48 and 8 tonight against Temple. 20 for 28 from the field.

Anybody have him in our fantasy league? I hope not ha
  • Azubuike24
No, but he probably would've been the #1 wild card pick if he was eligible. He didn't even get eligible until after the draft.

In the SWAC I'll predict he averages 30 and 12. He's already at 25/7 and they have played 5 BCS schools now.
  • SportsAndLady
Aaric Murray was my next pick...until I realized he didn't play for WVU anymore

And I had already taken a wildcard
