Who's the Heisman favorite now?

Te'o winning would've been a slap in the face to dozens of amazing defensive players over the years who never even made it to New York. I'm sorry, but he's not even in the league as some of these guys...let alone better.

Exactly the point I am trying to make

    Why?

Klein deserved to win it over anyone. He just didnt have the "story"

Have you looked at the stats for Klein and Manziel? Hard to justify him over Johnny being they played the same position and had very similar-quality teams...

I'd say he deserved it over Manziel for sure. He had one bad game that everyone saw. Manziel had two bad ones that no one saw.

I'm not sure how many times we had to hear about Teo's girlfriend and grandma tonight. Sad story and inspirational, but irrelevant to why he should win.

Ndamukong Suh, Hugh Green, Terrell Suggs, Patrick Willis, Lawrence Taylor, Brian Bosworth, Chris Spielman, Ronnie Lot? There is a laundry list of others. How many of these guys won the award?

Want to make a mockery of the award of have it "lose credibility", give it to Te'o...

T'eo winning the Heisman would've been a larger loss of credibility. T'eo is a great player, and an even better person, but he didn't have anything close to a Heisman season.

I hardly doubt Te'o winning would have made a mockery of the award. Maybe to certain groups of fans. Could be said that awarding it to someone who still has pending criminal charges makes it a mockery considering the word "integrity" was used more than any other tonight.

He didn't have a "Heisman" season?
The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.
Sure seems like Te'o had a "Heisman season" to me.

Well, he didn't win. So I guess he didn't have a Heisman season.

Somebody at STATS Inc. earned their money from ESPN

In order to avoid saying he ranked low in terms of total tackles, and other stats, they kept bundling his stats in different combinations

I love that people keep penalizing Te'o for ranking low in total tackles. He led one of the best defenses in the country in tackles. Ideally, you wouldn't want a high total of tackles. That would indicate that your defense isn't getting off the field or that the rest of the defense blows.

Bottom line, Te'o is the only player in history to have 100+ tackles and 7 INTs in the same season. Not sure how that's not impressive?

Who said it wasn't impressive? He had a great season, but so did guys like Clowney,Jones, and Shazier. Honestly, do you think T'eo would've been in the discussion if not for his story and the fact he went to ND?

Good season. But not much different then a number of other LBs this year. If you invite him, you have to invite 3 other LBs as well

I know, my post was way over the top, but I feel Manziel's winning the trophy was a reward for one game, as he wasn't even in the mainstream discussion before the 'Bama game. IMO, he was the product of the media (Johnny Football, Scoobey Doo, blah, blah, blah), and they weren't going to allow him NOT to win.

btw, he did lose two games, both at home, right?

Obviously you don't because they didn't. Maybe you are unclear how the Heisman works?

I don't think it's just because of the fact that he went to ND, but rather the fact that ND played 6 games in prime time this year on National TV, and Te'o had big plays in all of those games.

It's tougher to get noticed when you are up against everyone else at the 3:30 spot. When you're the only game on, it's easier to get the bigger audience. And if you come up big in those situations, it goes a long way.

So is the Heisman only about leadership, integrity and perseverance? That's the only case he has because like others have said, there are a number of guys who had similar numbers and in the past many guys with better stats didn't even get an invite?

He went by Johnny Football way before the Bama game. Also, anyone who truly follows college football knew about him way before the bama game. He had 557 total yards and 4 td against Ark in Sept.

Yup. You weren't paying attention if you hadn't heard of him prior to Bama

He had two bad games prior to Bama, which cost his team wins. You know about those? Were you paying attention?

So he has NBC to thank for the invite?
