Who's the Heisman favorite now?

sleeperShazier more tackles, solo tackles, and sacks. These are the bread and butter of a solid LB.

I do think Te'o deserves to be mentioned, not only because of the impact he's had on ND's defense, but also since he's been in the discussion from early on. As for your second question, I plead the 5th.killer_ewok;1324086 wrote:Do you think Te'o deserves to be mentioned and who do you think is the better football player....Te'o or Shazier? Again, just an honest question. You're a reasonable poster on here so I like to hear your take on things. -
Crimson streakIt's a 10 tackle difference and te'o also has 6 ints. Shazier should have more sacks as he rushes the passer more while te'o rarely rushes the passer. I am curious on the number of plays each has played. There's no denying both are damn good though. I think te'o has a bigger impact on his team though

Actually if you've watched ND at all this season, you'll realize most of Te'o INTs were pure luck. Sacks and tackles are what LBs do and no one in the country does it better than Shazier.Crimson streak;1324108 wrote:It's a 10 tackle difference and te'o also has 6 ints. Trueblue23I would think Manziel and Barner would be the front runners.

1. By standout, I meant there aren't 1 or 2 that are obvious leaders. Usually there are at least 2 that "standout" from the rest.vball10set;1323709 wrote:I disagree. IMO, there are many standouts, and that's what's making it difficult to identify a frontrunner.
2. I don't necessarily agree that there are many "standouts" in the way you were saying. There is no Cam Newton, Ingram or Troy Smith this year. -
WebFireI really don't think Te'o should be mentioned in Heisman talk. National defensive awards? Absolutely. But not Heisman. 6 INTs is good for a LB, but it's not something gets you to NYC.

I absolutely think he should be mentioned simply for the fact that there is no frontrunner. If there were a clear favorite I would for sure agree with you, but honestly at this point, barring other serious contenders, he certainly deserves to be mentioned even if he finishes 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc.WebFire;1324126 wrote:I really don't think Te'o should be mentioned in Heisman talk. I think it goes way past just on the field as well is off with te'o. He's such a great kid it really sucks he's gone after this year. -

Te'O should have more interceptions because he is in coverage more. Works both waysCrimson streak;1324108 wrote:It's a 10 tackle difference and te'o also has 6 ints. I'm not saying it doesn't. But like I said I'm curious to see how many plays both players have played -
wes_mantoothI would take Stormy Klein over both of them.....

Lucky INT's still count as INT's. -

Truth...I always believed it was luck, but Ed Reed has made a hall of fame career of being in the right place at the right time....a nose for the ball.killer_ewok;1324153 wrote:Lucky INT's still count as INT's. -

Yes. I write articles for a ND blog so I'm pretty much forced to watch all of their games.Rotinaj;1324118 wrote:And I take it you've watched all of ND's games? -

Have you at all been paying attention? ND has the most delusional fan base in the country so the articles I write get far more hits than any other team. It's about money; money talks.Rotinaj;1324165 wrote:Why would you possibly do such a thing? -

Again, I disagree. Listing "standouts" is subjective, but as far as the players you named, an argument can be made for saying Klein, Barner, Miller, Manziel and Te'o have all had similar impacts for their respective teams this season. They all have the ability to take their team's to the highest level, making them the most outstanding player on their squad. We look back on the winners you mentioned with greater admiration now because they already have won the award. However, when they were playing their Heisman season's, they all had ups and downs, and I'm sure other candidates, at times, looked more worthy of winning the trophy. JMO.WebFire;1324122 wrote:1. That's all fine and good, but there are a lot of great kids playing college football. I don't really care if he is or isn't considered. He is a good football player for sure. I just don't think for a defensive player, he's done enough to warrant Heisman attention.Crimson streak;1324144 wrote:I think it goes way past just on the field as well is off with te'o. Agree to disagree. Just don't see the dominate players this year like years past. There will always be impactful players, because there is no other choice.vball10set;1324173 wrote:Again, I disagree. Pick6If a defensive player ever deserved the reward again, it should have been Matheiu last year, IMO.

I think the majority of college football players arent "lacking" in any of those categories. Very broad.karen lotz;1324180 wrote:"The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.
