2013 recruiting chatter

This probably isn't reliable, but I think he's UK bound

From TheHoopsReport: Andrew Wiggins to sign Tuesday. We've been told by reliable source that it will be #Kentucky. #bbn #wiggins2UK

I honestly don't know if there is a reliable source outside of Andrew, his family, and maybe his closest friends. Unless it's one of those people, I don't think anyone should believe anything at this point. Another reason why this has been so crazy...basically there have been no leaks. None.

If it's Kentucky, then it's been Kentucky all along, and for that I think I would have to hate the kid.

If it's another school, then I would be more inclined to believe that he really struggled between heading to UK to top off the number one class in the country, and going elsewhere to make a mark on his own.

If it is Kentucky, though, hats off to Calipari. For a coach who's not even one of the five best in his profession, he's been a machine on the recruiting circuit. No one can seemingly touch him.

There will be hate regardless of the decision. With that said, I do think Wiggins and his family have been genuine about the whole thing, the whole time.

This recruitment has been largely fan-driven. While you could certainly state that waiting until Mid-May to make a decision only fueled the fire for rumors and attention, this was NOT a self-centered thing created by his camp.

I WILL appreciate that, even if he has the stones to actually pick Florida State...

If it's Kentucky, I'd really truly dislike this kid for his time in college. Because, like you said Rec, if it's UK it's been UK all along, and he just played the recruiting game like a fiddle this whole time. I can't stand those types of recruits, even when they do end up choosing my team.

Should be some serious drama on my lunch break tomorrow lol do the right thing, Andrew.

On what basis? It's taken him THIS long to make a decision, and it's not his fault? I'm not saying it's a bad thing that he waited this long, but I gotta believe he's known where he was truly going to go for some time, but just wanted to play this out as long as he could. Idk how anyone, let alone a UK fan, can say this was not him and his camp creating this drama.

Agreed. The college basketball season officially begins in less than five months (give or take a couple of days), and he has yet to make his decision. He's the only Top 100 player left who has yet to commit, and likely the only player in the entire class. Let's get serious. No matter whether he has been quiet and seemingly modest about his recruitment, on a deeper level, he has been soaking this shit up for every last second that it is worth. It's almost summer for god sake. Just say where you are going. Bottom line, he deliberately waited this long so that all eyes were on him when he made his decision.

While I still think he has given Wichita closer consideration than many would probably believe, the reason he won't decline the invitation from UK is because the kid wants to be the center of the college basketball universe next season, and, as good as he is, that wouldn't happen at a mid-major program in the middle of nowhere in Kansas. He won't pass up the attention he'll get in Lexington.

I want to throw in the obvious caveat that the above is only my opinion, because I hate when people talk as if they are dealing in facts when they are actually not, but I am highly suspicious of Wiggins' true intentions at this point.

Yup. Im now in the boat of anyone who is saying he's just a good, quiet kid who is struggling with the decision are actually just uk fans making excuses for him already because they know hes going there next year.

Just fucking pick your school kid, its one year.
  • Laley23
Has anyone ever taken this long to decide? Seriously, it's ridiculous at this point.
  • wildcats20
I hope he fucks everyone and goes to Europe.

No no..he just is taking his time because he doesnt know where he wants to spend one meaningless year playing basketball. His family have been quiet about it, so they clearly don't want attention.

    SMH give me a break.

John Wall committed to UK on May 16th, 2009. This isn't unpredecented.

The banter today (which means nothing, obviously), sounds like it's FSU.

You know my thoughts on FSU. I'd rather him go to UNC or Kansas. Seriously...UK can compete with anyone regardless, but as a general bball fan, FSU is just blah.

    I'm pulling for witchita st.

I don't think Wiggins and his family have been overly dramatic about this, and the way his announcment is going to happen isn't extreme either. I do think he has enjoyed the attention, and has known where he was going for quite a while, but I don't think he necessarily fits the mold of an attention-seeking recruit. It seems like my theory on Calipari asking him to draw this out may be thrown out the window if he picks FSU, but I'm still saying UK until he proves otherwise.

If he isn't picking Carolina, I want it to be FSU. The Heels would still have to face him, but I don't want him helping Kentucky or Kansas win a title. The best thing would be if he did shock everyone, and went to Wichita, but I highly doubt that'll happen.

The only problem I have had with this, is that it appears that he and his family have really led on three of the four finalists. ALL of the coaches feel like they have a better than average chance of landing him, which is pretty unusual. Usually it's down to one or two schools, with a clear favorite. If he's truly conflicted, is he really conflicted over FOUR separate schools? I don't buy that, which is what has made me suspicious all along. It's his right to decide whenever he wants to though, and like I said before, he has been tight-lipped throughout the process. Enjoy the attention? Yes, definitely. Going over the top? Not really, in my opinion.

All the FSU talk is turning to Kansas now. I'm assuming it'll be Carolina by the end of the night, and then Kentucky tomorrow at about 12:15PM. lol

Matt Jones ‏@KySportsRadio 1h Kansas coaches telling anyone who will listen, they are getting Wiggins. That is why national media floating in that direction

    Jeff Goodman ‏@GoodmanCBS 4h
I'm changing my prediction for Andrew Wiggins' destination from FSU to Kansas. No "inside info", just a hunch based on talking to people.
  • ironman02
Can the Kansas coaches actually speak about Wiggins or is that a violation? Also, why the hell would they ruin his announcement?

Not so sure I believe that stuff.

Sure they can. As long as they arent speaking on the air or on the record.
  • Azubuike24
If they don't actually speak his name...it would be impossible to prove they "spoke about him."

I thought the tweet meant that they were speaking specifically about him to members of the media, but I probably misinterpreted it. I guess it just means that they're speaking about him to people close to the program and then they're spreading the word.
  • SportsAndLady
I'm sure after the heat on KU lately w/ B-Mac, they're being very careful about wwat they can and cannot say regarding Wiggins.
  • Laley23
The whole talking about recruits is so easy to get around. Just leak it to someone who can talk about him lol

"Hey *insert media member*, you should really consider being near Lawrence, KS tomorrow afternoon. There might be something to talk about."

Haha. Obviously that would be about Wiggins, but try tying that back to the NCAA rule about directly mentioning a recruit before he's signed a LOI.
