2013 recruiting chatter

The Nike Hoops Summit is this weekend.

Andrew Wiggins leads the World squad once again, teaming up with Karl Towns (Dominican Republic) and one of John Calipari's top 3 or 4 targets of 2014 (Dante Exum of Australia).

Joel Emblid of Kansas was a last minute invite after his performance at the Jordan Classic.

Not sure the World team can win this game as the U.S. team is stacked...but it should be intriguing nonetheless.

Exum is a damn stud. 6-6 PG. I want Crean to land that kid more than I want to have sex with Katy Perry.

Nike Hoop Summit on ESPN2. The game has been ok. Not a ton of high action, but the kid from Lithuania has range. Damn. His last shot was in the air for three minutes.

7 out of 10 classes, Randle and Parker are both the #1 overall players.

Hard to not like Karl Towns' game.

Impressed with Rondae Hollis-Jefferson going to Zona. Might be a bigger key for them than Aaron Gordon...

Wiggins, Parker and Randle were all excellent tonight and are clearly the three best players in the country. I also was impressed with Karl Towns. I love how effortlessly he almost glides down the court as a seven-footer. He has great control, especially in mid flight. UK got a good one there. Hopefully, for my sake, Duke is able to land Okafor for '14.

Not surprised the World Team won, but was surprised by the margin in which they did.

The world team had 3 legit big men, all probably in their top 6. The USA team didn't have a center on the roster. Kinda weird...

You could arguably say that Wiggins, Exum, Towns and Embid were 4 of the top 8-10 prospects in the game. Outside of the big 3 and maybe Andrew Harrison, the USA team wasn't overly impressive...

This was my first real look at Exum and he's sick. Sucks that Duke is not in the running, but I feel really good about landing Tyus Jones -- landing the No. 1 point guard in the class of 2014 as a back-up plan wouldn't be all that bad lol

Where is UK in the race for Exum? Is Indiana the so-called "leader"? I see the kid also has Southern Methodist and Tulsa on his short list. I get Larry Brown, but Tulsa? WTF? Not that he'd go there, but I wonder what the reasoning for even listening them is.

I'm pretty sure Exum hasn't been fully on the radar of the heavy hitters.

His dad went to UNC. I've read some say he's Calipari's favorite recruit of the class. I don't see how he ends up making a decision without basically every "who's who" list of offers.

Indiana I think is the only school to get him on campus, and it was for an unofficial. He isnt hurting for money to get to the USA, but it's still damn near impossible for him without a long vacation type of time to come. I'm thrilled IU had him in for the Minny game and it was an unofficial, so they will likely get him again before he decides.

I've also heard where he may actually not be required to go to college if he's granted early eligibility for the 2014 draft.

He would be a lottery pick, even with the strong class next year...

This is the reason why Carolina hasn't shown much interest, despite the family connection. Exum says he wants to play PG at the collegiate level, but Carolina already has 5* PG Joel Berry committed for the 2014 class. Berry has already been named Florida Mr. Basketball as a sophomore and junior, was a HS All-American this season, and will likely be in Chapel Hill longer than Exum would have. The doubt about whether Exum will ever play college ball, along with the fact that Berry is already in the fold, created a weird situation for Carolina to deal with. A lot of people aren't too happy with Roy about that one, but I can see his point.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like this kid might be the next big recruiting war over the next year, if he isn't allowed to skip to the League.

Carolina sounds like it will be in big trouble if it doesn't set its sights on signing another point guard and quick.

I'm confused. They have Paige who will be a sophomore next year. Nate Britt is coming in next year, and he was a 5* until he suffered a knee injury and sat out most of the last year. Then in 2014 they have Berry, who I mentioned before. I think they're set at PG for the forseeable future.

I was just joking. We've talked about this before, but Roy seems to be going hard after a lot of point guards (which is probably because, in order to be successful, Roy's offense is dependent upon always having a great point guard to lead in transition). With that said, I was always confused as to why Tyus Jones was such a priority when he already had Marcus Paige, who is going to be a great player one day, and a stud newcomer in Nate Britt. And now there's talk that UNC might have been showing interest in Exum. Lol, I just found that funny.

Carolina is most definitely set at pg.

Ever since the LDII fiasco, and having to play Stilman White at PG in the NCAAT when Marshall went down because of that, Roy has vowed to never have a lack of depth at the PG position. Like you said, it's the one position that really makes Roy's system go, so it's of great importance.

Exum could end up playing SG or SF at the next level, so maybe Roy will show more interest once he has actually seen him play a little more. As of right now, though, the focus for wing players in that class is on Rashad Vaughn, Devin Booker, and D'Angelo Russell. There are offers out to Justise Winslow and Theo Pinson as well, but those two are basically off the board for Carolina.

That is something that makes a lot of sense, too. Good point.

Devin Davis Jr. being in college really makes me feel really old. :( His dad was really good for Miami of Ohio.

I see Exum going to college and playing PG for one year. He seems pretty set on it, though admittedly, it's early and he is young.

Been told Andrew Wiggins has canceled his home visits with Kansas, UNC and Florida State early this week.

    From Goodman of CBS.

Louisville is now the favorite to land AW.

Heard his flight back from Portland was delayed twice, which messed up the schedule. Might be doing the meetings by phone now. Don't think I like the sound of that, though. I still say UK and he was meeting to tell the other three his decision.
