Midstate01If wiggins goes to uk and they lose a single game, is it a failure? No way they can lose a game in the awful sec, but will they be expected to win every game?

Without putting any opinion into it, there have been numerous testimonials about Calipari mentioning an undefeated season being a goal of his. Could just be conjecture by a likeable public figure, but it's also not something you really hear said by coaches. It's usually the standard "be the best team we can be, take it one game at a time, we hope to compete for a title, etc..." He's jumped right to...I want to go 40-0.Midstate01;1431536 wrote:If wiggins goes to uk and they lose a single game, is it a failure? reclegend22As you know, I have refused to buy into the enormous UK hype machine without seeing this group on a college court first, and still believe that it will be a difficult task for Calipari to keep such an elite and deep group of talent on the same page and buying into the good of the team for a full 40-game season. With that said, I am scared to death of facing a front court comprised of Andrew Wiggins and Julius Randle.

ironman02Wiggins wasn't going to make it home in time to meet with Roy today because of the delayed flights. He, apparently, also said that he's exhausted from traveling the last few weeks for all the all-star games. Since he was going to miss Roy's visit, he decided to cancel them all. The meetings that were to take place this week were requested by the coaches in an effort to give their final pitch before a recruiting quiet period begins on Wednesday. Calipari, apparently, had already used up his allotted visits, so he wasn't scheduled for a meeting.
While the circumstances I described above are certainly believeable, I still think this favors Kentucky. Calipari was the last coach to meet with him, and if Wiggins is still undecided, I would think he would be a little more willing to meet with the coaches again. It has been reported that he will still talk with them over the phone, but I just can't see this as a positive thing for any of them.
From a Carolina perspective, there are rumors that Roy has talked extensively with the Wiggins family over the last week or so, and there are still people very close to the program that feel like Roy has a great chance to land Wiggins. Personally, I kind of worry that he's simply telling each of these schools what they want to hear because he doesn't want to bluntly tell them no. I haven't wanted a recruit to choose Carolina this much other than when Harrison Barnes picked the Heels over Duke, but I think I'm gonna be disappointed. Kentucky. -
Azubuike24If Wiggins goes to UK, the whole season will take on a NCAA vs UK feel.
Is this fair for a bunch of unproven players? Probably not. Is it reality though? Yes. Calipari will not shy away from taking that Goliath stance and treating his team as such.
If Wiggins goes to Carolina, game on. UK, Duke and Carolina, the major powers to be will all be right there, arguing over king of the land. Same if Wiggins goes to KU.
If he goes to FSU...well, you know my thoughts on that... -
SportsAndLadyIt would be ridiculous if Wiggins shocks the world and goes to KU. This probably isn't happening, but holy shit would this team be awesome under HCBS.
I literally cannot wait for incoming freshman Wayne Selden. And 7-footer Joel Emblid should be a force early. Then 3 other 4-star players to go along with the #1 player in the country; hot damn. Naadir Tharpe and Perry Ellis will be back.
I think KU's a top 10 team without Wiggins. With him? Definitely top 5, maybe higher. -

After seeing Embiid's impact defensively in the AS games, I'm having to agree.SportsAndLady;1431920 wrote:It would be ridiculous if Wiggins shocks the world and goes to KU. This probably isn't happening, but holy **** would this team be awesome under HCBS.

With Wiggins, that's a loaded starting 5.

Laley23Emblid was awesome defensivley against some of the best. Remains to be seen if he can do it in real game action without committing fouls, but he looks to be the next big shot blocker in college ball, imo. Especially SO-SR years after he learns the game next year...

Azubuike24Today, UCLA commit and Charlotte, NC native, PG/SG Allerik Freeman suddenly de-commits from the Bruins and apparently has an offer from UNC. He has said before than UNC is his dream school, but he did not have an offer before. After Reggie Bullock's departure, UNC has 1 scholarship open (I think). Freeman, apparently, is very close with incoming recruit Kennedy Meeks. This happens the day after Wiggins cancels his visit.
Coincidence? -

Don't forget about Arizona next year.Azubuike24;1431784 wrote:

Azubuike24Zona and MSU will be right there, I was just talking about those who always talk about the "traditional powers" being at the very top.
MSU and Zona will both be preseason top 5, IMO. -

I agree in the sense that this year the top 5/10 will be traditional/recent powers. Don't see an NC State (preseason what, like #5 this past year?) or similar non-power with a final four chance this year. If you made the argument at this time last year that NC State had a final four chance in 2013 it wouldn't be far fetched. Can't say the same about this year. -

Carolina would've had room for Wiggins if Bullock had stayed. They have TWO scholarships open right now. If Freeman or Wiggins do not come to Carolina, Jackson Simmons and Luke Davis will get the open schollies for the year.Azubuike24;1432679 wrote:Today, UCLA commit and Charlotte, NC native, PG/SG Allerik Freeman suddenly de-commits from the Bruins and apparently has an offer from UNC. ironman02By the way, are you sure Freeman actually has been offered? I'm suprised by that because the 2014 class is loaded with better wing players, and Carolina has offers out to several of them. I doubt they'd take Freeman late this year over ANY of those guys.

Azubuike24I don't know if it's confirmed as the recruiting sites don't update it that frequently. It's been on Twitter though. I'm assuming a lot of the rumblings have been assumptions after the sudden de-commit. As of like 2 weeks ago, he was interviewed and said he was firm in his UCLA decision.

ironman02I'm just about on recruiting overload, but supposedly Wiggins had his phone conversation with Roy. Carolina "insiders" seem to think that Wiggins is somehow favoring FSU right now, but no clue what the reasoning behind that may be. Seems like an awful lot of misdirection lately with regard to each school. You have insiders from all four schools claiming that they feel good about their chances, then the next day you hear that he has a favorite, then rinse and repeat. Either he truly hasn't decided or this is being manipulated. Personally, I think Calipari is playing this thing out to near perfection. This will be his greatest recruiting victory at Kentucky and he'll use it to his advantage. Getting Wiggins isn't just a chance at 40-0 or having the most highly touted recruiting classs of all time. It's about marketing the program for the future as Wiggins goes to the NBA, becomes a face of the Nike brand, and is successful in the league.

ironman02Rumor is that Wiggins is announcing on Friday. Seems like there would be some official word by now if that truly is going to happen, but who knows.
Hopefully Friday IS the day. -
Azubuike24Lots of rumors floating around.
Seems like UNC and KU are in good shape. I've never doubted UK being in good shape.
If not UK, hopefully it's KU, over UNC... -
Laley23I havent heard anything about it, so I am assuming he is NOT announcing tomorrow?

I don't know what to believe. The Kansas rumors seem kind of odd to me, and are pretty unsubstantiated. Wiggins does like Bill Self, though, so you never know.Azubuike24;1437652 wrote:Lots of rumors floating around.

Apparently something big happened at the Carolina basketball office today. Whether it was Wiggins-related remains to be seen. There's some talk that Trevor Lacey could transfer to Carolina, but honestly, I don't think there would be so much excitement about that. I guess the positive vibes could also be related to a 2014 recruit. I'm cautiously optimistic going into tomorrow, and it would be nice to see this whole thing come to an end.
I still say it's Kentucky. lol -
ironman02Obviously there was no announcement from Wiggins today.
And so it continues... -
Azubuike24I really does hope he shocks the world.
Something like John Wall, but more extreme. Wall let the news slip to a Slam Magazine editor at 2 AM haha.
It would be great if Wiggins made some very mainstream, but obscure announcement. -
reclegend22New report indicates the As the Wiggins Turns soap opera may come to an end as soon as next week. As secretive as this long, drawn-out affair has been, I wouldn't be surprised at all if he made the announcement via Morse code. Please, just tell us where the fuck you are going to shoot hoops next year. Lol.
