Will you watch?

MulvaOhio State played New Mexico State on Halloween 2 years ago (so probably 8th/9th game of the season). I remember because it was part of the student ticket package and I was pissed off. Why does it matter when teams appear on your schedule? The SEC plays some conference games in the first 2 weekends of the season.
Beat to it.
No, that wasn't what did it.Manhattan Buckeye;1002071 wrote:Was it their awesome win over Georgia Southern in their late season "bye" that convinced you? -
OSHNot watching. I didn't watch the first one either.

Because effectively it gives a team a late season "bye". Alabama/Auburn got two weeks to prepare for each other because their respective bands would likely beat the likes of Samford (sorry, UTC was last year) and Georgia Southern.
It is lame. -
cats gone wildWhat people need to understand is, Bama lost a month ago. The teams that would of been in front of them lost after they did. It all goes off 'when' you lose during the season.

Meh. I don't see the big deal. Ohio State had a literal bye on November 6th last year, giving them 2 weeks to prepare for Penn State. It happens.Manhattan Buckeye;1002122 wrote:"Why does it matter when teams appear on your schedule? "

The literal bye is actually counter productive if you're on a roll imo. I really don't have a problem with when the cakes de cup are scheduled.Mulva;1002142 wrote:Meh. I don't see the big deal. A lot teams have off weeks in late October or November. How is it lame? This is a horrible stretch to try and discredit the SEC. Wow.Manhattan Buckeye;1002122 wrote:"Why does it matter when teams appear on your schedule? "

Literal byes so teams can get fully healthy in November and game plan for two weeks are ok. Weeks where a team has to play a live football game and can't focus solely on the opponent two weeks away is lame. Duh. -
sleeperI think it finally happened. Domers have now joined the SEC bandwagon so they can drag the rest of college football fans to be as miserable as they are.
Notre Dame should just join the SEC so they can actually feel apart of something relevant. -

Then schedule a bye, and not move a cupcake from August until November. It is lame.karen lotz;1002174 wrote:A lot teams have off weeks in late October or November. How is it lame? This is a horrible stretch to try and discredit the SEC. Wow. -

That's so nuts even a ND fan can't defend that. How much game film do you think Auburn watched of Samford this year? They could have started their third string and would have won that game. If you don't think the SEC teams purposefully schedule these teams at the end of the year, I don't know where to begin. There is a reason why they do it. It is a guaranteed win at the end of the season (and we all know team that lose late get screwed) and pretty much a bye week. -

What is lame about playing a game instead of having an off week? As already pointed out, Ohio State had a bye week last November before they played Penn State. Was that lame? Should the Big Ten change their scheduling rules to not allow November byes? (Yes I realize the Big Ten had an odd number of teams last year so there was a bye/ooc game every week once conference play started.) Was that lame? -

I'm not saying they had to game plan a lot for those teams, but I guarantee you they spent some time on it and weren't watching film only on the next week's opponents.Manhattan Buckeye;1002218 wrote:"Weeks where a team has to play a live football game and can't focus solely on the opponent two weeks away is lame."

South Carolina and Florida didn't schedule those teams at the end of the year. What is the reason they didn't?
I think Georgia played GaTech late in the season. Guaranteed win at the end of the season? -
Tiger2003I'll probably watch. But you guys are being some whinny ass bitches. If you want something to whine about, whine about Ok State not beating powerhouse Iowa St. Ok State is not the second best team in the country and Bama is.

Manhattan Buckeye"I think Georgia played GaTech late in the season. Guaranteed win at the end of the season? "
That's an annual rivalry, as is UF-FSU.
I don't think Samford/Auburn or Georgia Southern/Bama are annual rivalries. Or LSU and Western Kentucky. Or Tennessee and MTSU.
It is very obvious that many SEC schools game the system to their advantage, whether it is oversigning or scheduling a patsy in November, I'm not sure why this is a controversial opinion. -
namod65If I end up watching the game, I'll buy everyone here an Ipad.

Because you are saying it is only the SEC that does it. Was Ohio State lame for having a bye last November before they played Penn State? You fail to address that.Manhattan Buckeye;1002243 wrote:"I think Georgia played GaTech late in the season. Guaranteed win at the end of the season? "

Because it was an actual bye week, and by scheduling it then they had to lose one earlier in the season.karen lotz;1002249 wrote:Because you are saying it is only the SEC that does it. Was Ohio State lame for having a bye last November before they played Penn State? You fail to address that. -

HitsRusI don't know if I'll watch or not, but I'm a firm believer in you don't deserve the NC if you can't even win your conference. This matchup is just a reflection of the weakness within the BCS system. I wish something could be done to get some sort of playoff, even if it were just between 4 teams.
I remember the season where the #1 Buckeyes beat #2 Michigan, and there was a good chance that there could be a rematch in the NC.....oh, the whining from the SEC! And with good reason. Funny, they don't seem to have a problem with this year's matchup though. -
Writerbuckeye
If there wasn't going to be a rematch in 2006, there shouldn't be one now. Back then, all the experts said OSU and UM were 1 and 2 going into the last game of the season...but the pollsters felt it was wrong to give UM a second bite at the apple.Tiger2003;1002242 wrote:I'll probably watch. Somehow that logic has now gone by the wayside since two SEC teams are involved.
Shameful.
And no, I won't be watching. Why bother? -
