    Before you get excited about recruiting in Florida, realize OSU has always had a handful of starters from the sunshine state. There are lots of underclassmen at UF who will tell their young friends how they were flat out lied to by Urban Meyer. They tweeted as much last night. Matt Elam was not even one of them. He better focus on recruiting up north. I'm just plain disappointed that Meyer is taking a coaching job a year after quitting for health & family reasons. I'm glad its OSU, but I really think he will be gone before long without any BCS rings.

    Meyer knows it will be easier to get to the BCS Title game at Ohio State than it was at Florida.

    True, but I'm not one of them. Aren't Buckeye fans pissed because of this giant distraction during Beat Michiganagain week? I imagine its the same as Gator fans mad at rumors of Marotti & Durkin bolting during F$U week.

    You hadn't figured that out?? I didn't have to listen to Herbie to understand what's going on here.

    Much less pressure in the Big Ten for Meyer. Easier to get to the BCS Title game at Ohio State. If Tressel won 7 Big Ten Titles in a row and made it to 3 BCS Title Games with his offense, coordinator and players, what do you suppose Meyer will do?

    While it will be easier to go undefeated (something Meyer never did at Florida) and make the title game in the B1G because the conference isn't as tough, it won't be as easy as some thing. First, it will be far less likely for a one-loss B1G team to make the title game than a one-loss SEC team. Second, the it will be harder to win the B1G year in and year out now both because of the addition of Nebraska and because the B1G now has a title game. OSU's streak of seven straight conference titles will never be equaled now that there's a title game.

    Herbie just moved away from Ohio because he said Buckeye fans were "too crazy."

    Now some of you think he would move back and insert himself into a situation where he is going to get skewered every time Braxton Miller uses poor mechanics?

    No way is he an assistant coach at Ohio State next year.

    Again, being a great player =/= being a great coach. Joe Daniels never played quarterback in his life, yet he was Dan Marino's QB coach in college, he coach Troy Smith to a Heisman Trophy, and was QB coach for three different NFL teams. Think about the greatest golf coaches in the world (Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, David Ledbetter), none of these guys were champion golfers, but they understand the mechanics of the golf swing and how to teach it. Some people don't necessarily have the physical ability to be great, but that doesn't mean that they don't understand what to do and have the ability to teach it, just like some people have the ability to play, but can't necessarily coach. Besides, it is possible that Herbie has learned a thing or two in the 20 years since he played the game.

    Now, I don't think Herbie is going to come and coach at OSU, nor do I want him to, but I still don't understand why everyone thinks you have to have been a great player in order to be able to be a great coach.

Not to mention he threw 2:1 INT to TD and averaged 73 yards per game passing AND only rushed for a total of 140 yards. Has was not a good QB.

    The physical abilities isn't the problem. He was a terrible decision maker and had bad mechanics. Typically the guys who weren't very good players who go on to coach had a very good understanding of their position, but just physically weren't there. I don't think he would be a good QB coach. I believe he COULD coach, just not a QB position coach. He would probably be a decent play caller actually.

    Except you know, the ability to understand the position, the ability the understand the mechanics, then the ability to pass that knowledge to others. Now, it's known that he lacked the first 2, the 3rd is the unknown (but he doesn't have much of that to pass on)

    BTW, Joe Daniels did not coach Marino. Daniels was the RB coach at Pitt, not QB's

    Key two words. Ask his wife why they really moved.

    As for whether he would be a good coach or not -- I'll go with the odds and say "not". I'm pretty sure Meyer can find a QB coach with a proven record of success to help him at OSU.

    All you talked about was his ability and mechanics, neither of which are a prerequisite to be a good coach.
