Buckeyes Approach Urban Meyer

  • Mulva
Meyer is obviously a really good coach, but if the figure I saw on the bottom line today ($40 mil for 7 years) is accurate that's insane. Tressel was only making $3.5 mil his final season.

I know Meyer had all of the leverage in this situation, but damn.

    163% greater?

If those figures are accurate he'll be the highest paid coach in the country by a half million dollars. $1 million more than 2nd (Nick Saban). At those figures he'd better put up about 6 BCS wins and 3 national titles over the 7 years of the deal, if he manages to stick around that long.

lol at you getting defensive about absolutely nothing.

I just get tired of people bitching about contract amounts. The guy is worth whatever someone is willing to pay them.

The buckeyes will pay whatever it takes to win, whether players or coach.;)

I still find it hilarious that all the bucks nation wants Urban so bad when they bashed him like crazy, called him a cheat, cant win without tebow stuff while he was at UF. But, you guys act like you never said that stuff. After all the talk of the SEC having the best coaches and winning titles every year, you guys had to go out and get you an SEC coach. I can imagine the hate topics for Urban and who's our next coach in 3 or 4 years.
  • bases_loaded
I've heard Urb hated that to win in the SEC you had to knowingly commit secondary violations and apologize later.

By that account, we good in my eyes.

Or did the SEC go out and get Big Ten coaches and Ohio State is just taking one back? Saban coached at MSU, and Meyer and Miles are from Ohio...

Ohio State (all sports) committed the most secondary violations of any school over the past 10 years or so. Dispatch had an article about it like last year but needless to say most of the stuff that pops up when you search for it is from this past year's fun.

I can't believe a school with 36 varsity sports would lead the country in that.

I am worried about that 2010 season and any season without Tebow. He had a great staff at florida during the Tebow years that helped for sure. At the end of the day he is the best realistic choice.

I totally agree. But, will the OSU underpaid assistants be enough to help him be championship caliber? As you said, he had a good staff at UF, and Im sure those coaches are at other schools now.

They will open the bank for his assistants. They are bringing in his old AD from bowling green to make it seamless

This. They are going to go all out on the assistants from what I have heard.

Whoever Urban wants as an assistant, he will get. Money won't be the problem.

You know you've made a good hire when fans from rival schools start asking rhetorical questions with negative overtones...it's the fear factor, plain and simple

Worst kept secret now. If Urban Meyer wasn't interested, all he he would have to say is, "I'm not interested."

None of that stuff has changed for me. I will always dislike Urban Meyer, however, I will always be an OSU fan, so I'm stuck with him.

I for one have nothing to worry about. LSU is a top program. And whats the chances LSU will face OSU in the next few years. Very slim.

LSU is a top program--this year...and why very slim? be careful now, I'm trying my best to be civil here

I don't think people accused him of not being able to win without Tebow... if they did they're dumb. The guy is a proven winner at each stop. BGSU, Utah and Florida. He knows how to win.

However, that does not change the fact that some of his antics have been questionable. Such as retiring then coming back and telling a recruit God wants him to be there.

LSU is a top program. If you are a top 10 program in alot of recent years, and on the way to possibly win a 3rd BCS and next year a possible 4th BCS.....then you are a top program.
Why is the chance slim? LSU doesnt play in the B1G or OOC with OSU. There usually are about 10 teams that could play OSU in a bowl game on a regular basis. LSU has only faced OSU once in many years. So yeah, slim.
