Buckeyes Approach Urban Meyer

    I had lunch today with the Columbus Quarterback Club, which Bruce was at and spoke about his experiences with the OSU/M*ch*g*n game. He spoke openly about this team and the struggles they've had and what he thinks they need to do on Saturday to win, and he spoke of the job Fickell has done. Now this was a small crowd (60 people) who he has lunch with on a weekly basis and it is not open to the public (just members of the QB Club and their guests). He gave absolutely no indication that he knew anything about Meyer being the next coach, although I did find out while talking with him that he will be delivering the elegy at the memorial for Meyer's father on Friday, so he is clearly close with Urban and his family.

    Wasn't Urban on Bruce's staff as a GA?

    Yeah. Earle said they talk "many" times a week. He has never denied that Urban will be the next coach tho

    I thought so. Yeah, I don't think anyone can deny it, it's all a matter of when they can confirm it. With all the speculation out there, you'd think that if he wasn't going to do it, he'd have just come out and denied it by now. I think the question now is, when does OSU announce it?

    Yes, Urban was on Earle's staff, and Coach Bruce didn't deny that Urban would be the next coach and no one asked him about it, but he also didn't give any indication that he would be. I was a bit surprised to find out they he was close enough to the Meyer family to be the one delivering the elegy at the memorial for Urban's father.

    He was asked on the radio monday and his response was "nothing has been agreed to or signed" then went off on a rant about columbus media and rumors lol

    Read an article about Adolphus Washington's verbal today. He was asked if he would be playing for Meyer next year, and he answered, "I hope so".

    I would imagine that means he doesn't expect it to be Fickell.

    It's my understanding that because it is a state position, it has to be posted for a week or so before it can be filled. Even though they don't intend to hire anyone else, they still have to post it so anyone can apply if they like.

    I'm going to guess that once it's posted, they'll go ahead and announce the hiring is pending (all but done) and make it official with the contract, once the legal time period has passed.

    I still expect this to be announced sometime next week at the latest.

    If you want to argue that OSU never intended to give him a shot at renewing his contract, fine, whatever. But in response to the question of "hasnt the job been open since Tressel left" the answer is "no" because Fickell is under full contract as the head coach.

    Fickell is the head coach. There is no interim tag. And I don't believe the job was posted prior to him accepting.

    It was posted internally between him being interim and him getting a full contract.

    He was a GA, so I would assume he got his graduate dregree in something at OSU (sports admin I think?)

    Maybe they will announce the Urban hiring after his father's funeral Friday. Out of respect for Urban Meyer and his family.
