imex99Within the next 48 hours, Ohio State will announce Urban Meyer as their next head coach. As reported Tuesday by Scout.com, multiple sources have confirmed that Meyer and Ohio State have reached an agreement, and the formal announcement will be made soon. The two-time national championship coach has continued to deny reports any deal has been finalized.
As soon as possibly Sunday, Urban Meyer will be named as the next head coach at Ohio State, multiple sources have informed Scout.com. Meyer, now 47-years old, has denied reports he has reached an agreement with Ohio State. He would replace current Buckeye head coach Luke Fickell, who has held the job since the resignation of Jim Tressel last May.
Tuesday afternoon, following much media speculation, Scout.com reported that Meyer had indeed agreed in part to take the Ohio State job. Two sources close to the situation confirmed that Meyer and Ohio State had reached an understanding, and that only the timing of this weekend's game with Michigan stood in the way of a formal announcement.
"Ohio State and Meyer have definitely reached an agreement, and it is a done deal," a source inside the Ohio State athletic department told Scout.com. "The timing of the announcement will depend on the outcome of the game, and if Ohio State loses, it could come as early as Sunday. The coaches will learn their fate Saturday evening, or early Sunday morning. The announcement will be no later than Monday, barring anything out of the ordinary happening."
"Coach Fickell will be given an opportunity to be part of Meyer's staff, and it's unclear if he will accept another position with the new staff," the source continued. "Even though Ohio State has said they will accept a bowl invitation, I'm hearing they will deny any invitation if they lose to Michigan, but that could be up in the air. The players will be told where things are this weekend, more than likely Sunday morning."
Meyer, currently employed by ESPN, has ties to the state of Ohio, having played college football at Cincinnati, and growing up in Ashtabula. He was a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 1986, working for Buckeye head coach Earle Bruce, who Meyer often refers to as his mentor. He was named head coach at Bowling Green in 2001, before heading to Utah and then to Florida, where he won two national championships.
Meyer resigned from Florida a year ago for health reasons, a factor he discussed recently with a former Buckeye player.
"He (Meyer) feels like he has made the changes in his lifestyle that will allow him to return to coaching," a former Ohio State player told Scout.com. "He is reaching out to former Ohio State players, looking for their support before the announcement is made. He is excited about the opportunity at Ohio State, and he said this will be finalized by early next week."
Scout.com will continue to monitor the Meyer situation, and will update as circumstances warrant.

As for whether he would be a good coach or not -- I'll go with the odds and say "not". I'm pretty sure Meyer can find a QB coach with a proven record of success to help him at OSU.
Either way, any coach who would hire Herbie to be a major college assistant should have his head examined. -

Originally I thought they would have a press conference to introduce him and let him speak on Monday afternoon. Now I want them to make the announcement tomorrow, because after losing to Michigan there's no need to delay this.dtdtim;987951 wrote:So...who thinks it happens tomorrow? Big GainI said Sunday 11/27 three weeks ago...the first day of an open recruiting period.

I said Sunday 11/27 three weeks ago. The first day of an open recruiting period. Meyer has a lot of players committed to other schools to call. He can't be a day late.dtdtim;987951 wrote:So...who thinks it happens tomorrow? I'm saying the word becomes official tomorrow, formal introduction early in the week. -

dwccrewMy favorite thing if Urban is announced soon is that we won't have to hear anymore stupid rumors.

It's Greg Studwara, the current LSU o-line coach who will be coming north to be OC. Fickell and Drayton will stay on (Fickell as assistant head coach and Drayton back to RB coach), and also Mickey Mariotti (strength coach at UF) will be hired as director of football ops.Red Right 21;988380 wrote:I hope he gets the OC at LSU to come north also!
I just heard today about Stoops as DC, although my source for the above info had DJ Durkin, current UF LB coach as D-coordinator. -

Isn't Studwara the acting OC at LSU right now?lhslep134;988484 wrote:It's Greg Studwara, the current LSU o-line coach who will be coming north to be OC. Yeah, I think so.krambman;988566 wrote:Isn't Studwara the acting OC at LSU right now? -
jordo212000Yep, everybody is reporting a team meeting for tomorrow. Probably means we get a formal announcement on Monday. Also probably means it will be confirmed tomorrow.
Watching the ESPN game took much of the drama out of it. Pasch and Speilman were discussing it as a foregone conclusion.
I have a hard time believing the guy at LSU becomes the offensive coordinator. That would be an extremely parallel move.
This is the first time I have heard the Stoops stuff. Would love to have him as a DC. It would be nice to have somebody who is a little fiery calling the shots on D. Also will be nice to have somebody who will have a little aggression from time to time. Heacock did a great job, don't get me wrong, but his "bend, but don't break...play soft zone" defense got annoying at times. -
Ty WebbWas reading around on another site and someone said they have heard this is how its going to work:
Sunday:
9am-Players meeting,told of Meyer's hiring
11am-Hiring announced to public
Monday:
Offical Press Conference
Tuesday:
Introduced to the public at halftime of Duke game -
LJStudwra is only the acting OC at LSU. Not sure what direction they will even take going forward. They dont eve run a Studwra type offense there (think Josh Harris's sr year at BGSU)
-
jordo212000
Kragthorpe was the guy who had the job at the beginning of the year and they gave his duties to Studwra. Kragthorpe has some sort of illness that is not going to improve. So.. if Studwra was given the job because of Kragthorpe's illness this past year, logic would lead you to believe that the roles would be switched again next year. Especially after the season they have had. Not sure why you would hand the clipboard back to Kragthorpe, who was last seen driving the Louisville program into the ground.LJ;988711 wrote:Studwra is only the acting OC at LSU.
