NCAA Defines OSU Misconduct/ Tressel Emails Released

  No one denied that. The problem is, that still has nothing to do with the fact that Tressel made the decision himself. The blame is solely on him. You can't pass the blame for one's actions. The players did what they did, but that is where it ends. At that point, Tressel made the decision to do the wrong thing. Them doing what they did does not excuse Tressel from what he did, nor does it pass the blame to the players. It's not TP's fault that Tressel decided to cover it up.

  We are not discussing that. We are discussing where you said that Pryor almost cost Tressel his job. That would be passing the blame on the players. Tressel has probably cost Tressel his job. No one else.

  The OSU athletic program needs to distance itself from Tressel, imo. Cut ties now and move forward. Preempt the NCAA from hammering the program.

  I still wish we would have gotten rid of everybody involved. Cut ties and move on. The NCAA would/will take it easier on us.

  
  I wonder if the NCAA gives any consideration to the fact that OSU came forward with Tressel's emails, and not that they discovered them via another source? OSU as an institution has been completely forthcoming at every step of this, it's just that their coach wasn't. And after that press conference back in March, I can't believe Gene Smith and/or Gordon Gee are ready to get rid of JT now. And I can't see him stepping down on his own in disgrace either.
  
  But I can't get over the fact that he still kept the emails to himself, even after considering the consequences. Was keeping 5 guys on the field for what would've been 4 games really worth the crap that's being thrown at OSU now? Makes no sense.

  I'm not arguing that TP is responsible for Tress' actions. Tress is even guiltier than those guys IMO. What he did was much worse

  IMO, he didn't, and eventually that will come out...unfortunately it will only help to vindicate Tressel, NOT The OSU-- it will only make matters worse for them.

  The dispatch got all email/phone records from Gee Smith and Tressel and found nothing. What more do you want?

  It's getting higher percentage that he didn't. With only a few months of emails missing, way after emailgate occured, your changes of being correct are dwindling.

  Not to defend Pryor...but there are SEVERAL players involved, not just the QB.
  
  Also...Tressell is dirty. Always has been. Go back to YSU and then Clarett. He has always turned a blind eye to "booster" and "friends" of the players.
  
  Now...is he the only coach doing this? No...but he has been given this "Saint Tressell" like moniker that he has NEVER deserved or even earned.

  I don't think you do it now. I think you let Tressel get the brunt of the punishment, ride out the 2011 season and let Tressel walk away on his own. Start fresh in 2012. If you let go of Tressel now there is no one for the NCAA to punish in August. Right now is not a good time to be finding a coach. I think you would take a big image hit with people (When I say people I mean recruits) who see this as Tressel protecting his player type of thing, and do not see this as a huge negative.

  After Smith's latest comments to the AP, he would look very, very foolish if evidence comes out that he knew. There is no way he would make those statements if Tressel told him. Tressel is not the victim or martyr here, he is the culprit.

  I think it would be smart for Ohio state to cut ties with tressel. The NCAA will definitely give out a lighter punishment then if they decide to defend tressel

  I agree. Nobody lives up to the image that everyone wanted to hold Tressel too. He even cashed in by writing books that made him seem holier than thou.
  
  Count me as still being a fan. He made a mistake. There will be penalties and then hopefully we can move on.

  I don't remember if it was posted on here or not, but I glanced at some article last week that seemed to imply that Smith expressed some more openly negative feelings about the cost of the investigation, especially as it related to Tressel. Now with an official hearing lined up with the NCAA and the potential for more serious penalties, could it be that Tressel is losing favor from Smith (and Gee and whoever else)?

  So if they have to forfeit the Sugar Bowl it will all go back to OSU being winless in bowls against SEC competition.

  They have asked OSU to give a lot more detailed information on everything they (NCAA) have already found and included in the Notice of Allegations and OSU has 90 days to do so. Read through the link I posted and you will see all the stuff the NCAA wants. OSU will also go in front of the NCAA in August to defend themselves against the Allegations.

  They won't forfeit the sugar bowl, but that doesn't mean SEC fans won't consider it forfieted in their minds.

  That's what I'm wondering. I haven't really see anything new since the March presser, when Smith and Gee were gushing praise on JT. And I don't think the NCAA can fire a school's coach, or force a school to fire their coach, or can they?

  They can't directly fire him, but they can make him unemployable by slapping him with a Show Cause penalty.
