That's also another 19 years of having to remain as consistent as Boeheim. Two ways to look at it. Also, Boeheim isn't in direct competition with Izzo to be considered a great coach. If Izzo "obliterates" Boeheim's achievements than that just makes Izzo exceptionally great and better than Boeheim. You talk as if Izzo's legacy is tied directly to Boeheim's and affects it. It's not and it doesn't.

My opinion (and I would think the opinion of most others-fans, coaches, experts, analysts, etc.) is that Boeheim is a great coach based on his career. You can disagree....I just think that you're in the minority.

Also, since you're going by your own criteria and you have a hard-on for comparing the two....I'll play along and talk about one of my criteria.....20 wins or more in a season.

Boeheim-In 35 seasons, only twice have Boeheim's teams failed to win at least 20 games.

Izzo-In 16 seasons, Izzo's teams have failed to reach the 20-win plateau 5 times.

Here is another way to spin it. Boeheim at his current pace would have to Coach another 35 years to get to 6 Elite 8's and STILL would be 1 behind Izzo's 7 after 16 years. :)

I guess we will have to agree to disagree on who is and who is not a Great Coach.

Let me spin something. If Tom Izzo won 20 games in each of his next 20 seasons, he would still be two 20-win seasons shy of where Jim Boeheim currently stands. Tom Izzo is not coaching for 20 more seasons. In 20 seasons, Tom could have Alzheimer's and not remember his national championship. He'd be 76. There is something to be said of longevity, and Boeheim has won a lot of damn games during his 35 years in one of college basketball's most competitive and deep conferences. He's won 855 to be exact, and has coached eight Big East champions, 27 NCAA tournament teams and presided over the Orangemen in three national championship games. Winning it all, of course, in 2003. That's a lot of success.

How about the fact that both coaches are way above the norm in terms of their career success and are, by today's standards, great coaches.

Funny side note. Check out Boeheim's Wikipedia page. According to Wikipedia, under the records by season section, Jim has won three national championships, including back-to-back titles in the 1996 and 1997 seasons.

Yeah, we can agree to disagree. Neither of us are going to change our opinions.

Good post, rec. If only Wikipedia was accurate about those titles. LOL

Your spinning 20 game regular season wins and I am spinning Elite 8's...just sayin.

I don't care about Jim Boehiem or Tom Izzo ... just sayin.

But, I think the specific areas of success I mentioned regarding Boeheim are things that cannot be ignored. Eighty-five percent of current coaches would kill for that success -- and that number is probably low.

That's a good point and something I was going to bring up. Just because other coaches aren't up to Izzo's accomplishments doesn't mean they still aren't great themselves. It's the equivalent to saying Joseph Stalin wasn't that vile a dictator because he didn't have as many killed as Hitler did.

and with that relavent, excellent analogy of coaching College Basketball this thread needs to end...

I sense the sarcasm. It is true though; just because coaches aren't at Izzo's level, doesn't mean they aren't considered great coaches.

Then wouldn't that put Izzo in the "UberGreat" category? :)

But I agree. No coach or team has to apologize for scheduling.
They all schedule like a bunch of sissies. They should apologize for not having the balls to schedule home and homes with the Butlers of the world.

There are no great coaches. There are more accomplished coaches.

    Fixed.

More home games, more revenue, better program. It's really that simple.

If you are going to alter my statement and attribute the new statement to me please use proper grammar.

    I stand by this:
