Sweet 16: (4) Kentucky vs. (1) Ohio State

If we slowed them down more, scoring 60 points for OSU should be a win. But we couldn't stop them! Although they use the term mostly in football, Defense wins championships and offense wins games, this applies here. Especially when you are not scoring as well, you have to depend on your defense. Lauderdale should not have been on the bench that long! We were only outrebounded 31-30, but 18 rebs from UK came from Harrellson 6'10'' (10) and Jones 6'8'' (8). 16 of OSU rebounds came from Sully alone, the next was 6 from Craft who is 6'0'' generously! You telling me that Lauderdale would not have made a bigger impact. Harrellson and Jones on the floor is a mismatch for OSU with only Sullinger on the floor. Numbers don't lie!

If Lauderdale plays for Bufford who's going to defend who? You think Lauderdale will do a better job on Harrellson? Lauderdale will foul out, Harrelson gets more foul shots. Who does Sullinger defend? Jones? Sullinger would get worn out and probably get in foul trouble chasing Jones around the court. Lighty did ONE HELL of a job on Jones, he was 3 of 10. NO WAY Sullinger comes close to doing what Lighty did on Jones. If not Jones, you want Sullinger defending a guard?

Who defends who, numbers don't lie, you move Lighty off Jones he scores more, Harrelson shots more foul shots, Sullinger doesn't score as many points, as bad as Bufford was you lose his 4 points and Jones scores at least 6 more points a net loss of 10 points. Kentucky wins by double figures. You don't see what Matta and I see?

You ignoramus, Buford took fewer shots as a % than he usually takes, he ALWAYS takes more shots than those other guys. He has a better all around game than the other guys. He has a better intermediate game than the other guys. He shoots 3-pointers better than Lighty, he drives better than Diebler. I noticed that several times those other guys passed up shots and passed to Buford. They had a chance to shoot, but didn't want to shoot. The vast majority of Buford's shots were shots that come to Bufford in the progressions of the offense or plays run expressly for Bufford. They were shots that Bufford always takes, they were good shots, they didn't fall. They sure has hell were better shots than Sullinger took, stumbling, and falling on the floor. Bufford didn't stumble and fall and turn the ball over 4 times like Sullinger.

Oh and if you dont think someone 6'10" 215 can play in Big 10 I guessed you've never heard of Jajuan Johnson.
SURELY YOU JEST!!!!!! You're comparing an unknown to Jajuan Johnson???? LOLOLOLOLOLOL FAIL!

SportsAndLady;725609 wrote:What does any of that have to do with my opinion that Matta won't win a title? LOL

It was you who said Matta "road Oden, Conley and Cooke to the Final Four". My point is ALL coaches ride their stud players. ALSO, Self, Donovan, Williams and Calipari have had more "to ride" than Matta has had over the past 10 years.

No you idiot you said someone who is 6'10" and 215 cannot compete in the Big Ten. I showed you an example of someone who fits that description and excelled in the Big Ten. I did not compare the two players, I guess in your illogical world I did though. So, uhm, kudos for that.

Uh yeah, I will be around. I have never hidden when my team lost. It's a basketball game, I don't hide.

Even if they do lose, you're really going to give my team shit for losing in the Elite 8, 2 years after winning the national championship? Did you see me giving OSU fans shit for losing in the sweet sixteen the other day? Noooope.
  • Prescott
obviously Stevens knows good professionalism and realizes that you don't patronize someone who has been in the final four 3 times and has done something he has never done--win a title.
Maybe, he realizes his players won the game not his coaching.
  • vball10set
I won't give you shit, S&L, but there are obviously others that will. Since my team lost, I'd have no room to give a fan of another team a hard time about losing....BUT, if my team were to lose to a #11 seed? just sayin'
  • SportsAndLady
Yeah if that 11 seed loss was when you were a 6th seed in the first round, that would be a little embarrassing. But this is an 11 seed in the Elite 8..an 11 seed who just beat 4 major D1 programs. At this point, there is no shame in losing in the Elite, no matter who the opponent....that being said, I don't think KU loses to VCU, but we'll see. HOpefully VCU talks some trash before the game like their Richmond neighbors did, that really did well for them lol
  • Prescott
Be real. This is an #11 seed that lost 11 games, with 6 of those losses being to non-tournament teams. They lost 5/8 regular season games. There is a reason that Vegas made Kansas an 11.5 point favorite. If Kansas doesn't win, it will be an epic failure for the Jayhawks.

Some of you act like Bill Self was responsible for bringing Tulsa Basketball to the forefront. Tubby Smith had more to do with that than Self.
Self took over Tulsa after they had made 4 straight NCAA appearences including 2 straight Sweet Sixteens.

Florida St and USC are not Major D-1 programs in basketball and everyone was beating Georgetown the last part of the season. If Kansas loses its a major choke job.

Bill Self did, however, take Tulsa to within four points of the Final Four in 2000, when the Golden Hurricane dropped a 59-55 decision to North Carolina in the Elite Eight. That is something that no other Tulsa coach has done. Neither Tubby nor Nolan Richardson nor Clarence Iba. And it was that run that launched Self into the national picture and allowed him to make his leap into the upper echelon of the college basketball elite.

Self is a great coach. Thad Matta is also a very good coach. But when you compare the two, Thad Matta doesn't add up. Not yet. A championship will do that. Not a second sooner, however. If Self reaches another Final Four today, the separation will be even larger. I say this not because I hate Ohio State -- even though I do hate them, oh I hate them -- but because there are some here acting as if they've pretty much accomplished the same. No, they haven't. And please quit with the "he didn't take Oral Roberts to the NCAA tournament" stuff. Who cares? As far I'm concerned, Bill Self could have coached Noah's Arch College to a record of zero wins and it would be completely irrelevant in light of what he's done at both Illinois and Kansas. Please.

Self also suffered the worst tournament loss in Tulsa history...a 41 pt drubbing by Duke. He inherited very good teams at Tulsa,Illinois and Kansas he is a very good Coach but he is not a great Coach.

Now do you see what I mean?? This isn't the VCU team that lost all those games, this is the VCU team that has beaten 4 straight major D1 programs...Yes, skyhook FSU, Purdue, USC are major D1 programs..what I mean by that, is they are from a major conference.

Matta has been coaching 7 years less than Self. He is on pace to do just fine

Major D1 programs=in one of the 6 major conferences

Is it really that hard to understand? I'm not saying they're UK, Duke, North Carolina

Kansas isnt looking like the best team in the country today.
