FidmeisterThe second he knew, Gene Smith, Gordon Gee and the compliance office should have known.
Then, deal with it. Get out front of it. Nothing good happens when you hide.
I think these e-mails will be subject to an open records request ASAP. -

I'm still somewhat confused.
according to most these dicks, your a moron for not getting it. My point was I do not see the correlation of the drug issues to the players. The email would never have been sent if the players were not involved and he said 2 of them were in the report which came up faulty. So the email said hey this guy is selling drugs and your players are selling him clothing? I find it hard to believe that is what it said. -
Fab1bA question I posted on page 16 or 17....If the email Tress received was from a lawyer and said lawyer asked for it to remain confidential (concerning a fed investigation) isn't that binding in a court of law if Tress does not keep it so?
-
AutomatikIf you were informed to hush up about a federal investigation by an attorney.....you wouldn't listen?
I honestly don't know wtf I would do if I was in that situation. -

I'm disappointed as well, but I can see where he's coming from. It was truly a double edge sword. He felt the need to protect himself and the players, but knew that there was going to be a major backlash to follow. He looked to be on the verge of tears through the whole presser. His body of work is unquestionable, his character - in my opinion is unquestionable - as well. I can see where his reputations may very well be tarnished outside of Buckeye Nation, but to me - he's a man who puts others before himself, he looks out for his players, and is sincere when he says that he just basically did not know what to do. I don't think any less of him, but I can see everyone outside of OSU salavating at the mouth ready to rip Ohio State for being a university that lies, cheats, and is doing nothing but showing lack of insitutional control.
Regardless, I'm still a Buckeye fan. I support and back Coach Tressel, and we'll still be a great team on the field come this fall. Hopefully the NCAA accepts our self-imposed sanctions, and leave it at that. I'm interested to see how this affects our appeal on the suspension of the five players though. I think that any hope we had of the suspension being reduced, may have just taken a hit. -

I know if it was work related, I'd feel like I had to tell my boss. -

So let me get this straight. Ohio state who is ranked 54th in the country alone in academics and is average at most sports except football and good every once and a while in basketball is the best school in the world? Don't you think that academics are much more important when ranking a school? Yes OSU is a great school but Best in the world, Really? -

In a perfect world, yes. But if you have ever coached, a coach will always take a hit for this players. If they were in danger, as was mentioned...no coach would have risked throwing them under the bus. Again, I want to read emails before passing judgement. The drug trafficing by FEDERAL investigators, along with a lawyer asking for confidentiality throws quite a mess into this IMO.Fidmeister;704032 wrote:The second he knew, Gene Smith, Gordon Gee and the compliance office should have known.

BTW, the open records request was already in action by YAHOO. OSU put out the emails in the press conference. Did you not watch? -

I would guess that he knew this wasn't going to go away. I am sure he has been informed that all his phone records as well as emails are subject to ncaa and any federal/state request. -

Yeah that's what I don't get. You'd think he would confide in Gene Smith. -

This was the rock and the hard place, his mistake was not seeking council...that's it -
Tiger2003Oh well shit happens just have to move on now. Wait for what the NCAA has to say and start preparing for the season. Go Bucks!!!!!

stlouiedipalmaI believe that Tressel was caught btween a rock and a hard place. On one hand you get information about a FEDERAL investigation involving drug trafficking and some of your players. You're asked to maintain confidentiality due to the ongoing investigation. On the other hand, you know that withholding the information to the NCAA will get you in trouble with them, but leaking information in a FEDERAL investigation could be seen as a felony offense. What the hell do you do?
I believe Tress when he said he was scared. -
killer_ewokytownfootball;704023 wrote:Tressel is guilty of two fucking things...
1. Not keeping up with his emails
2. Not seeking legal council
Fucking hate all you want on that shit.
The court of public opinion "hating on that shit" is one thing. The NCAA "hating on it" is a whole 'nother. I do think it's important to wait for more facts to come out. -

actually im pretty sure the sport with the most championships there is synchronized swimming. -

For not caring, you run your sore quite a bit. Of course you've had a lot of time on your hands since that dogshit small town shopper's news blew you out. Should have paid better attention at that "great" school you attended. For someone who writes "professionally", you're barely literate. -

First of all, why argue with Sleeper? LOL Secondly, where are you getting this 54 ranked in academics? Every once in a while in basketball? 4 big ten titles in last 6 years?
FACTS:
Ohio State is currently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the best public university in Ohio, among the top 130 universities in the world, among the top 60 universities in the United States, and among the top 20 public universities in the United States
