Azubuike24Gotta love the local NYC flavor with Rutgers/Seton Hall against St. John's and then possibly Syracuse/St. John's at MSG...

wildcats20Big East tourny is my favorite behind the ACC.
Almost always an instant classic comes from the Garden. -
sportswizuhrdSome have said that it might be harder to win the Big East Tournament than the actual NCAA Tournament. UCONN, 'Nova and Marquette could be playing in 5 games in 5 nights(2 of the 3 at max) and 6 games in 3 weekends in the Big Dance.
-
dokkenIs it standard for at least one Big East coach to get at least one technical per game? Every game I watch in the Big East, a coached is getting T'ed, some get tossed.
-
athlete37I LOVE our draw. Cincy/Nova/USF winner and then injured LVille/WVU/Marquette/Providence winner (with WVU being on the third game in 3 days and MQ/PC on their 4th in 4). Win those two and we finally make our first BE Finals appearance.

They say that shit every year, then they typically get throttled in the first couple rounds.sportswizuhrd;700636 wrote:Some have said that it might be harder to win the Big East Tournament than the actual NCAA Tournament. -

Typically or always. Either one. -
ytownfootballeh...always backs me in a corner

Azubuike24Well, obviously 5 games in 5 days is incredibly tough. However, they seed teams for a reason and I highly doubt we ever see a team win 5 games in 5 days to win this league. Syracuse winning 4 games in 4 days to do it was crazy enough.
However, for a good teams, who are capable of winning the NCAA Championship at-least, would arguably never have to win 5 in the Big East Tournament, maybe not even have to win 4 in the Big East Tournament, because their seed would be good enough. So no, for one of the top 4 seeds, the NCAA Tournament is hands-down tougher and that's tough to dispute for anyone. -

That's what she said -

agreed. depends on draw and seed. i could see it being more difficult for uconn to win the be tourney than the ncaa, but the same doesn't hold for notre dame or louisville -
CinciX12I think it all sets up pretty nicely for ND to not only make their first finals appearance, but win it all. And in the process give themselves a #1 seed.
-
Azubuike24And at this point...you would have to say it's going to be extremely tough to UConn for win the Big East Tournament. At the same time, it's nearly an impossibility that UConn wins the NCAA Tournament.

I'd give them 90% odds to make it to Thursday. Depaul is a joke and Georgetown looked so horrendous today against UC you couldn't possibly argue them winning a game in this thing. -
Azubuike245 wins for UConn in 5 days in the Big East Tournament = very, very slim odds of doing so
6 wins for UConn in 6 days in the NCAA Tournament = very, very slim odds of doing so -
CinciX12It isn't exactly 6 straight days. Not really the same thing. I would actually say winning the Big East tourney is statistically impossible and the NCAA Tourney is more likely.
-
Azubuike24No you're right. I'm really having trouble translating thoughts to the board tonight. 6 games in 3 weeks...still.
It's like arguing whether it's tougher to win Powerball at 1 in 15,000,000 entries or the Mega Millions at 1 in 14,850,000 entries.
The odds of both are incredibly slim that it's dumb for people to even compare the two when we are talking about Big East teams seeded 9th or lower. -
CinciX12Fair enough.

killer_ewokSyracuse beat St. Johns by 17 at the Garden in January. I like that matchup if it happens.

when in the last 10 years other than syracuse has this happened? -
sleeperI'll take Pitt, everyone else can have the field. It'll be Pitt-OSU in the championship game, and I wouldn't put a dime on Pitt.

Thats what I wondered too so I looked.
2010 8 teams (8-8) 2/5 Sweet 16(#1 Syracuse, #2 WVA)
2009 7 teams (17-7) 5/5 Sweet 16(#1 Pitt, #1 UConn, #1 Louisville, #3 Syracuse, #3 Villanova)
2008 8 teams (11-8) 3(1 of 4) Sweet 16(#3 Louisville, #7 WVA, #12 Villanova)
2007 6 teams (7-6) 2/2 Sweet 16(#2 Georgetown, #3 Pitt)
2006 8 teams (11-8) 4(2 of 2)Sweet 16(#1 UConn, #1 Villanova, #6 WVA, #7 Georgetown)
2005 6 teams (7-6) 2(0 of 3) Sweet 16(#5 Villanova, #7 WVA)
2004 6 teams (12-5) 3(2 of 2) Sweet 16(#2 UConn, #3 Pitt, #5 Syracuse)
2003 4 teams(12-3) 4(2 of 2) Sweet 16(#2 Pitt, #3 Syracuse, #5 UConn and #5 Notre Dame)
2002 6 teams(6-6) 2/2 Sweet 16(#2 UConn, #3 Pitt)
2001 5 teams(5-5) 1(0 of 1) S16(#10 Georgetown)
Total-64 bids, 28 Sweet 16's. 95 total wins. 2 titles. Teams that were seeded 1-4 made it to Sweet 16 18/28 times. 10 other teams seeded 9-16 made the sweet 16. -
athlete37To answer the odds question:

UConn's 2.5 percent chance at the BE Championship has to be more than their chance to win the NCAA tourney, but it's probably about even. -
killer_ewokSyracuse's Rick Jackson won Big East Defensive Player of the Year. Awesome. Dude has come a long way since his Freshman year.
Also, I took Pitt in the poll.
