Major program to get hit with major accusations

ytownfootballIf it's not Auburn now it will be soon. Too big a deal to let slide, so big in fact, the investigation may not be complete yet.

Why can't it be Auburn, but also another program?
The Auburn stuff is shady, yes, but perhaps the NCAA is still ongoing with its investigation with it? This "rumor" could be different from the Auburn scandal.
Oh, and anymore sources on the Auburn scandal, or just those two blogs?
Colin mentioning it is the most from a "Credible" mainstream source I've seen on it. That makes it more probable to me about it.
Now, who are the sources, what other writers, insiders know about it, and finally, who is it and what is it about? -
passwordse-alum;695844 wrote:Though I don't agree w/ letting the 5 Buckeyes play in the Sugar Bowl, the punishment was following the NCAA by-laws. Also, I doubt the NCAA had enough at the time to do anything with Newton. The NCAA doesn't have subpoena powers, so they only have what the FBI can give them at the time to work with.
I just don't see where letting them play in the bowl game but suspending them for 5 games next year accomplish anything except gaurantee their revenue for the bowl game. They should have been suspended the day it was announced and OSU should have been man enough to suspend them on their own if the NCAA would not but it's always about money.
The newton incident may have needed more time to investigate with the FBI but they continued to let him slap the NCAA in the face with his arrogance and they even helped make him out to be a poor bystander that was being used by his dad when the whole time he was nothing but a hoodlum who could throw a football.I bet if he had played for some doormat team that was going to play in one of the no name bowl games he would have been suspended and they would have moved on. -
thavoiceOregon.
Mark it down. -
purple_reinYep. Cowherds strongest ties are on the west coast.
IMO, it is down to 2 possible schools: Oregon and Tennessee. -
j_crazycowherd's full of shit.
remember when he "broke" the Florida head coaching hire with a big fucking teaser, STAB? what a giant fucking waste of time that was, and then i think it turned out to be wrong (Herd was hearing that it was Pelini), so even his STAB reference was bullshit.
I like the Herd, listen to him all the time, but he thrives on this internet message board shit to get his ratings up, and these little teasers like this send a lot of people online to say what he's spouting off, and drives a lot more people to tune in. It's great radio, but I don't consider it a breaking news story until someone more reputable has broken the story.
even if his info was legit (which i've already said i question) him tightholing his audience on the name of the program he's hearing is just huge for his ratings. I get that he's a member of the media and can't go spouting of everything he hears like you and I can, but make no mistake. Colin's known about this for a long time (that this story was gaining legs on the internet) and picked a Tuesday, with nothing on but spring training and the final day of the combine to start leaking his little tidbits of knowledge. It's genious, but take it with a grain of salt. -
vball10setI'm sticking with Auburn--just a gut feeling

Talk about it in The Round Table
TUSCALOOSA | Former University of Alabama linebacker Chris Keys told tidesports.com Monday that online blog reports indicating he has made accusations of receiving improper benefits in exchange for signing with the Crimson Tide in 2005 are untrue. In fact, Keys said, reports of his appearance of any kind on an upcoming episode of Home Box Office's Real Sports program are false.
"I haven't even talked to HBO," said Keys, who now resides in Chattanooga, Tenn. "My mom told me about it when she first heard about it, but there isn't anything to it. I've had some people ask me about it, but I don't know what they're talking about."
NCAA rules prohibit recruits or college student-athletes from receiving cash or other benefits.
Rumors of Keys' involvement in an HBO special followed reports that former Auburn defensive lineman Stanley McClover made allegations of his own to HBO about improper benefits he received to sign with AU out of Fort Lauderdale Dillard High. Reports of McClover's involvement also have not been confirmed by HBO, but a recent al.com report indicated that former AU running back Ronnie Brown spoke with McClover and came away with the impression that he had told the network he was paid to sign.
The Keys rumor has appeared on various sports blogs online, including chuckoliver.net, mrsec.com and others. None of the blog entries reviewed by The Tuscaloosa News reported Keys' involvement in the HBO special as fact, but assisted in the proliferation of the rumor throughout the message board communities that are UA sports-centric.
Told that the blogosphere had indicated he potentially made similar allegations of being paid improperly, Keys added: "That's crazy. That never happened."
Greg Domino, a spokesman for HBO, would neither confirm nor deny that the network's "Real Sports" show is working on a segment on recruiting practices -- or players being paid to play -- in the Southeastern Conference. He said the show does not usually publicize upcoming segments until about 10 days before the show is set to air. The next "Real Sports" installment is set to air March 30th, Domino said.
Keys was among Alabama's top recruits in the 2005 signing class of former coach Mike Shula. He was dismissed from the team in 2006 for unspecified violation of team rules. He made little impact in his only season at UA, appearing in 11 games but making only five tackles with a fumble recovery. Keys spent most of his prep career at Port Barre (La.), but transferred to Stevenson North Jackson for his senior year. He lived with former UA safety Ali Sharrief while attending North Jackson, and both eventually joined UA in the same signing class.
Reached by The Tuscaloosa News, Sharrief said he knew of no improper recruitment of Keys while he was living with Sharrief, during which time he changed his commitment from LSU and then-Tigers coach Nick Saban to Alabama. Keys' change of heart followed Saban's decision to leave LSU for the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Sharrief said he and Keys were both recruited by former Shula assistant Chris Ball.
"I've heard about (the rumors). A lot of people have been asking me about this situation, him receiving benefits," Sharrief said. "I've told them all I know nothing about it. I don't know anything about it, and I know I didn't receive anything."
Keys' live-in situation at the Sharrief home would have made any improper recruitment obvious to his hosts, Sharrief suggested.
"I'm pretty sure I would have known about it. It wasn't like he was driving around in a brand new Mercedes or something," he said.

Tenn was just slapped by the NCAA with violations in both basketball and football. I don't believe any penalties were handed down to them. But that was news last week. I doubt its them. Oregon with Knight there certainly wouldn't surprise me though. -

His main source for college FB is one of the insiders on OSU's scout board. -

Swamp FoxI always get nervous when this kind of question comes up. I get even more nervous when everyone on the site is mentioning everyone that is an NCAA DIV 1 program except for our own team. It's almost like if we throw out a million names of other programs it somehow insures that it couldn't possibly be our Buckeyes. Now before you come after me, I want you to know that there is no way I think that this kind of thing is going on at Ohio State but there are so many people out there that could be doing something that warrants an investigation that it just scares me, and when I see such a blatant avoidance of our own team, I worry. You simply can't watch everyone every second and there are some really crazy fans out there that act before thinking. It's almost like we think there may be something going on and we are trying to divert attention away from OSU.

I kinda feel like it goes on everywhere and I don't really think Ohio State is special in that regard. I like to think of it as being a clean institution that follows the rules, but I don't really think that's realistic.Swamp Fox;696987 wrote:Now before you come after me, I want you to know that there is no way I think that this kind of thing is going on at Ohio State

The rumor is that it's someone nobody would ever suspect and with OSU already having 5 players suspended I think that kind of rules us out. -

Many OSU insiders on messege boards claim to know what school it is and says its not OSU, but they will not give the name. Also they say this is not the story bill green was refering to and that story won't be out till summer.FatHobbit;697009 wrote:I kinda feel like it goes on everywhere and I don't really think Ohio State is special in that regard. bigkahunaI could really see it being Alabama which would domino into Auburn given all of the corruption in the state period.

Do you think it's not Auburn right now because of the depth of the case? I just don't see it being anyone other than Auburn. -
jordo212000This is really getting ridiculous. What's the hold up?

Probably just waiting for a slow news day sports wise. With the Melodrama and spring training starting up and now heading into conference and the NCAA tourneys, it isn't good timing. ESPN might wait until after the Masters to drop the bomb. -
SportsAndLadyOr during the Masters, White Bronco style

UncleYoderIt's Oregon. The money's too good.

thavoiceDoes ESPN partake in a sweeps week? Maybe they waiting for that week........boost viewers...raise ad rates....
