John Henson was named the National Defensive Player of the Year by FoxSports.com and Yahoo! Sports today.
Henson, Zeller, Barnes, and Marshall earned All-ACC Honors.
Barnes, Henson, and Zeller were named to the Second Team. Marshall was named to the Third Team. Barnes and Marshall were also named to the All-Freshman Team, and Henson was named to the All-Defensive Team.
"This marks the first time in ACC history a team won the league’s regular season championship outright and did not have a player on the All-ACC first team." -
reclegend22I was kind of surprised not to see Barnes on the first team, especially with how clutch his play has been down the stretch for Carolina (obviously, without the two three-pointers at the -- near -- buzzer against both Miami and Florida State, Carolina likely finishes two games back of Duke in the ACC Cloth Award race).
Then again, Barnes really didn't begin his strong push until after the midway point in ACC play, so second team is probably just. Regardless, he's turned into a hell of a player. Quite a far cry from where he was when being serenaded with "Overrated" by the Orange Crush in Champaign back in December. -
wildcats20The Heels are up to 6th(AP) and 7th(coaches) in the polls after beating Dook for the ACC Regular Season crown on Saturday.

Jesus Christ.
Just read through it all.
Carolina is "avg. at best" at PG??? Really? Tell that to Dook and every other ACC team that Kendall destroyed. That was so laughable. -
karen lotzI love the guys saying that Carolina wouldn't be able to run on them because OSU shoots a high percentage after I said something about Carolina beating Duke for layups AFTER MADE BASKETS. They play at a much faster pace than pretty much everyone in the country, but magically Craft will take the point guard out of the game and be able to run with them.

Laughable? Craft has played against better PG in the Big 10...and faired pretty well. I think he could "D" up Kendall and do pretty well. Thats laughable? Do you think Kendall is better than Battle, Taylor or Lucas? If you do, that is a legit laughable! -

Yes, they play at a faster pace. But again, OSU doesn't live by the 3 as Duke does. Its MUCH easier to run after a miss, and much easier to run after a long range miss. And again, Craft has played and faired well against better PG's. I am confident he would, at the very least, contain Marshall. I don't think you realize what a great defender on a pg can do in a game. -

Same Jordan Taylor that Craft gave up 27 to? Sure he held him to 8 points the second game, but if UNC and OSU play there wont be a second game to adjust to. I don't get why people are saying Craft will be able to contain him but Nolan Smith couldn't. Marshall is a pass first PG, those three that you listed are not.centralbucksfan;703070 wrote:Laughable? Marshall-168 assists in 666 minutes.
Battle-89 in 1094 minutes.
Lucas-100 in 992 minutes.
Taylor-145 in 1085 minutes.
Craft-145 in 902 minutes.
Nolan Smith(1st team All-ACC) 160 assists in 1054 minutes.
Marshall also lead the ACC in assists and played 6 less minutes than everyone else in the top 5.
Looks to me like UNC is in pretty good shape now at the PG spot. -

Lol yes I understand what a great defender can do. Have you watched Carolina play once this year? I'm willing to bet you Haven't. Marshall is not a score first PG like the GREAT ones in the Big Ten. He is going to shut him down from passing the ball? Impressive. I think craft gets himself in foul trouble fairly early against Marshall.I don't think you understand there is basketball played outside of the Big Ten, which shouldn't shock anyone.

Heelzif Nolan and Curry couldnt stop Marshall then what makes anyone think Craft could? Duke is a lights out shooting team and if UNC can beat them than they can beat anyone.

Question....
Where the fuck did I mention Craft?
Oh that's right, I didn't.
All I am laughing at is you saying Carolina is "avg. at best" at PG. And let me use one of your lines again, "that is a legit laughable!" -
PrescottCarolina is playing really well and would cause OSU some problems. Light on Henson and vice-versa would be interesting to watch.
Let's get carried away with Carolina's victory over duke. In the post Drew era,the Tarheels struggled to beat FSU without Singleton and scored 48 points in a home victory over BC.
Let's also not get carried away by OSU's thrashing of Wisky. The Buckeyes a re a good shooting team, but against Wisky they were above great. -

Roy Williams is the Coach of the Year in the ACC.
John Henson is ACC Defensive Player of the Year.
Harrison Barnes is ACC Rookie of the Year.
All very deserving, in my opinion. -
reclegend22http://northcarolina.scout.com/2/1054211.html
Nolan Smith is Player of the Year in the ACC with 72 votes to 1. Kyle Singler got the 1.
And there is still no conference champion. To be determined Sunday, March 13. -
swamisezFirst time in history of ACC that team who won regular season title didn't put a player on the first team.
Carolina got COY, FroshOY, and DPOY, but no first teamers. Doubt you will see that again.
Still can't believe this is the same team I watched lose by 20+ at GaTech. Craziness.
As for the UNC on Diebler thread, I gave up. You can't convince a buckeye fan Craft isn't the reincarnation of Gary Payton. -
wildcats20Henson should have been on first team IMO.
-
swamisezprobably should have. No idea why he isn't every writer in the state of NC graduated from UNC, you would think they would have voted him in?
-
wildcats20I love Zeller, but I find it semi-comical that Henson received more votes than he did.
-
ironman02Well, the regular season and conference tournament are over. Carolina now stands at 26-7 and is the #2 seed in the East Region.
The Heels were pretty shaky this weekend, getting off to very slow starts in all three games. They were able to overcome large deficits against Miami and Clemson, but Duke played a nearly perfect game today to take the ACC Tournament victory. Here's the East Region for the NCAA Tournament. How does Carolina size up in this portion of the bracket?
EAST REGION - Newark, NJ
Cleveland, OH
#1 - Ohio State
#16 - UT-San Antonio/Alabama State
#8 - George Mason
#9 - Villanova
Tampa, FL
#5 - West Virginia
#12 - UAB/Clemson
#4 - Kentucky
#13 - Princeton
Cleveland, OH
#6 - Xavier
#11 - Marquette
#3 - Syracuse
#14 - Indiana State
Charlotte, NC
#7 - Washington
#10 - Georgia
#2 - North Carolina
#15 - Long Island -
wildcats20The East will mostly be chalk IMO.
I look for Carolina and OSU to meet to head to Houston. -
ironman02I think the second round game could be tricky for the Heels, especially if it's against Washington. I think they'll get into the Sweet 16, but they better play well in the Round of 32 or they could get bounced early.
After that, if Syracuse is the opponent, I'll be extremely worried. That zone could be BIG trouble for Carolina unless they shoot well. That's one of the teams I absolutely didn't want to see in Carolina's bracket, and of course, they're right there.
