Carolina Basketball Discussion Thread

If the game against Washington were anywhere other than Charlotte I would agree. However, the home crowd could help the Heels pull out a W. I doubt Duke fans would rise up in support of Udub in this one.

ACC ACC ACC chants would be in order. Much like they were in Gboro for NCAA's in 2009 when Duke and Carolina played back to back against LSU and Texas

I absolutely would be rising up in support of Udub if I were standing in Greensboro. And I will definitely being doing so in front of my sofa. In fact, I likely will wear purple.

But, I don't think it will matter. The Heels will not lose in Charlotte. Not with the game in their home state and Dean Smith almost dead. I have North Carolina in Elite Eight, where they will, I think, lose to the Wildcats of Kentucky. With the Heels, it's all about whether their incredibly athletic and talented but very young crew can overcome the bouts of inconsistency and mental lapses that seem to sporadically haunt them at inopportune times. I love the potential matchup between Kendall Marshall and Isaiah Thomas. That could be special if Marshall brings it like he did against Duke in Chapel Hill.

    Stop.

Yeah, probably went too far there. Obviously it wasn't meant to be callous -- I'm not an all-out dick -- but I take that one back.

Obviously this is the College Basketball Forum, but I think Carolina fans will be interested.

Has anyone happened to see what Tyler Hansbrough has been doing recently with the Pacers? He scored a career-high 30 points tonight in the Pacers' win over the Knicks.

For the month of March, Tyler is averaging 19.1 PPG and 7.6RPG. Over his last five games, Tyler is shooting over 61% from the field, and averaging 25.2 PPG.

He battled vertigo as a result of a severe inner ear infection for most of last season, and even early into this season as well, but it seems like he's finally starting to come into his own. I was never sure that his game would translate very well to the NBA, but he's obviously working very hard to make himself into a very good player.

I wonder when Colin Cowherd is going to acknowledge this success and follow through on his promise?
  • wildcats20
He had 29 the other night too. He's been playing well, I love seeing it.
  • Laley23
If he could play versus the Knicks every night, hed be the best player in the history of basketball.

But seriously, Vogel getting the interim position has revitalized (or at least launched) his career.
  • wildcats20
What did Cowherd promise?? I really didn't listen to him before this past year.

Yeah, he's definitely getting plenty of playing time now. I highly doubt that he keeps up his current pace, but if he can become a consistent 15 and 7 type of player, he's going to have a long and successful career. You know he's gonna work hard and hustle, so he can definitely be an asset to the Pacers.

He said if Tyler Hansbrough ever scored 20 points in an NBA game, he would do his show in his underwear.

Tyler Hansbrough plays in the NBA?

Yeah, he got tired of kicking Duke's ass in Hansbrough Indoor Stadium.
  • reclegend22
4-1 since, including three consecutive ACC titles:)

As for Tyler in the NBA, he's playing really well. I say good for the kid.

Yeah, yeah. Enjoy it while it lasts, because it's not gonna last long.
  • reclegend22
I'm afraid that line has already been taken.

    And in Sports Illustrated.

Only one team in America gets that kind of press. Duke, baby.
  • ironman02
    haha...my bad. I'll edit.

By the way, get that trash out of my thread! :)
  • reclegend22
Haha. Sorry, but I cannot. I think it's beautiful. :D

    I want to powerbomb you.
  • swamisez
speaking of powerbomb, did anyone see that video of the kid who was bullied at school. He powerbombs a kid who was picking on him and the kid is obviously concussed.
    Craziness, definitely a WWE move.

Apparently Dexter Strickland is playing with a knee injury that will most likely require surgery after the season. I had noticed that he was wearing a sleeve on his knee, but I didn't realize that the injury was that serious. Proud of Dex for gutting it out and trying to help the team. Hopefully he'll get the problem taken care of after the NCAA Tournament and be able to work on improving his game for next season.

Nebraska's football team (Adidas I believe) should have trademarked that when they came out with their 'Restore the Order' and 'Order Restored' slogans 5-6 years ago.

I guess I fail to see the charge. I'm not saying this lost unc the game but it was a huge momentum buster and it seemed as if everytime unc would get something going something like this would happen and stop it.
  • ironman02
The most annoying thing about that play, other than it being one of the worst calls I've ever seen, is Singler's reaction. If you watch the video, he has this smug look on his face as he holds back a smile. He knows that he got away with one, and he's damn proud of the fact that he played defense like a little bitch and was rewarded for it.
  • reclegend22
When I look at that photo above, I am simply reminded of my ACC championship. Thanks, Heelz.

What did you want Singler to do on that particular play, return tortured and ashen-faced to the Duke bench like that pretentious "Coach, I touched the ball" bastard from that ridiculous NCAA Sportsmanship commercial and tell Coach K that they should give the ball back to North Carolina?

"Um, Coach K, it was the wrong call."

    "I know, son."

"What are we going to do about it?"

"We are going to give them the ball back. Nolan, I want you to find Kyle on the wing. Kyle, I want you to catch the ball and surrender it to the nearest North Carolina player like an idiot. Ok, break!

    Yes.
