OSU players getting free tatoos for autographs?

Mr. RussellWho gives a shit? Ohio State plays five scrubs next year the first five games. Braxton Miller can handle any of those guys, and there are plenty of skilled players that can burn Akron U. Come on. By not suspending them for the bowl game, it made this irrelevant.

You are wrong again as usual. -

Miami and Michigan State are scrubs? -

I get that, thanks, but it didn't answer my question. -

Miami isn't THE U right now, but yeah they are not scrub worthy. -

I disagree. No proven WR's coming back with no proven QB. Every game will have the potential to be a struggle. -
se-alumThey should sit out the bowl game, and hopefully they all declare for the draft. Herrons career is over, especially once Smith, Hall, and Berry get their opportunities. Luckily, our defense won't be affected. Posey and Herron are replaceable, and w/ M. Hall coming back, hopefully Adams is replaceable. Looks like it will be up to Guiton or Miller to take the reigns next year.

Miami is a middle of the road, and Michigan St. is no scrub next year.
First game back for these guys if they stay is at Nebraska. That is going to be tough as hell.
I can easily see 2-4 losses next year. -
Manhattan Buckeyequeencitybuckeye;611436 wrote:I get the discounted merchanside, but why is selling one's own property "illegal"?
Because while they are on scholarship or otherwise on the team (I'm uncertain whether the scholly matters) - perquisites aren't necessarily their property. College athletes get a lot of swag, so there are rules as to how schools must manage it. It isn't just football. My wife played college volleyball for a year before she blew her knee and received a lot of school-provided stuff just for being on the team. She couldn't just turn around and sell it on e-bay - not that it even existed then. She could sell it now if she likes...not that there are any buyers. -
charliehustle14Well at least we know that these players were all struggling financially, so there's sound of mind that they weren't getting paid by boosters, the school, agents, etc. (Cam Newton)

This is likely correct.
The rule makes sense. Colleges aren't allowed to pay athletes in cash - thus they shouldn't be allowed to pay athletes with other stuff (in "gifts") and allow them to sell them. -

Yeah. You're acting like Miami and MSU are world beaters. Michigan State hasnt had back-to-back good seasons in a long time. Am I supposed to believe that Miami is going to turn it around next year? We have been hearing that for years. "The U is back" -
BlanketI never said they were world beaters, the only thing I said is that they are not scrub teams.

They got an extra game for not reporting it like AJ Green. 4+1=5 -

jhay78I have always said, and still maintain, that TP should not have been named the starter in '08. Too much, too soon. If you're going to replace a guy who won a Big10 title and played in a NC game the year before, either that guy should be injured (Boeckman wasn't) or TP should be lighting the world on fire (he didn't). If he didn't already have a sense of entitlement with the whole recruiting circus, he got it by being prematurely named the starter when he could've still played and contributed (a la Tebow '06).
IMO, when stuff comes to you that easily, it's not too big of a step further to sell stuff that means a whole lot to a whole lot of other people. I'm not saying that led to him selling stuff, just that it didn't truly appear that he earned "starter" status in '08.
Just thinking out loud . . .
My only consolation as an OSU fan is that this is 5 guys doing something stupid, and not an institutional or coaching scandal. -
charliehustle14I've always been an avid supporter of Pryor. Mostly because I was always in awe of his physical abilities and plus he was always cool as hell to me when I came across him on campus a few times. He's won a shit ton of games for OSU, beat UM 3 times, and had that epic performance in the Rose Bowl. However, it's come at the expense of a lot of headaches, verbal gaffes, and now this embarrassment. He's always talking about being a leader, being a winner, and being a model person for the team and university. However, that was never really him. In the end, he shows that it was all about him. He never 100% cared about OSU...he was just always about getting his. And when he didn't get his, he bitched about it in the media. Tressel does wonders for the maturity of many players who come to Columbus, but not even he could really make Pryor into a total team player. Selling your rings and gold pants? Probably the worst thing you could do in the eye's of Buckeye Nation. What a sell out.
Knowing he did this at the end of his freshman year really makes me feel like I've cheered on (and hung out) with a total fraud. I guess the signs were there and I should have seen it earlier, but I was just oblivious to it I guess. What a total shame.
He went from having the opportunity to become the winningest QB in NCAA history, breaking basically every QB and offensive record at OSU, winning an unheard of 4 Big Ten championships and winning 4 times vs UM, and a final shot at a NC and Heisman next year.....to being a fraud that most OSU fans cannot wait to see leave Columbus. He could have left one of the most gaudy legacies in Big Ten history...but instead he'll leave as one of the biggest disappointments and embarrassments.
Moral of the story: If you work hard for something and earn a ring or some gold pants after all that hard work, hang on to those things. Give them to your parents or something meaningful like that. Don't pawn them off for some cash. Selling a ring for $2,500 is not worth your legacy.
end rant. fml. -

Me neither. You'd have to pry a Big Ten ring or some gold pants out of my cold, dead hands before I'm giving that shit away.
