GOOD, then they might actually have to go out and schedule AN AQ SCHOOL in non-conference play. Wouldn't THAT be a novel idea!! -

The OOC schedules are always going to be a joke because teams want to be healthy and relatively unchallenged for the tough conference grind. I'm fine with that, as long as the conferences end up being tough (this year: Pac 10, Big 12, SEC, Big 10).
You named four of the six conferences. 66% of the BCS conferences are "BCS worthy?" Isn't a 66% an an exam an F? Are we giving the BCS an F?
I am firmly in the camp that thinks the Big Ten is trending upward. Ohio State looks to be elite for as long as Tressel is coaching. Wisconsin is at the level Alvarez had them, maybe even higher. Michigan State is reaching unprecedented heights with Dantonio, whom I have always been a big fan of. Iowa and Ferentz are always formidable, and could break out any year. Penn State is rebuilding and will be better. Michigan and Northwestern are right behind the corner; Michigan with offensive schemes and Northwestern with a fantastic head coach. Then add Nebraska. Holy fuck. 2011 looks to be a banner year for the Big Ten.
That said, of the big three in the Big Ten, only Wisconsin played a legitimately tough conference schedule. Ohio State and Michigan State didn't play each other. The Big Ten's scheduling woes fucked them over big time here, in my opinion. If Ohio State had played Michigan State, they'd have a schedule worth its salt.
But they didn't play the Spartans (or an offensively potent Northwestern, at least before Persa's injury), so the "Big Ten is tough" remark is moot. -

Is Wisconsin one of the "Little sisters of the poor"? -

Does it matter? Wisconsin played the exact type of schedule. It shows TCU and Boise can play with anyone, even with weak schedules. -
tk421LOL, this is the first thing I thought about. Bet Gee feels like a moron right about now.

jordo212000yeah Gordon Gee's comments were silly then and they continue to look foolish now.

Agreed.jordo212000;620778 wrote:yeah Gordon Gee's comments were silly then and they continue to look foolish now. -
jordo212000If Gee was so sure that they weren't good enough, why not let TCU prove it in a playoff? Why do power brokers get to decide who plays and who does not?

Little DannyThe mistake Gee made is the same that many make. They assume just because of a name on a jersey, the fact a team does not have a large fan base and do not play in a traditionally strong conference that they cannot be any good. Earlier I was watching one of the ball games and they were talking about the Big 10 next year.. they mentioned the names Penn State, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa Nebraska and the commentator mentioned that lineup is not the same meat grinder today it would have been 20 years ago. The landscape of college football has changed. Demographics have shifted and players are choosing to go to other options other than lining up blindly to play for "State U".

cats gone wildI can understand that people say they dont play anyone, but when they do.....they take care of business. They have proved it time and time again they can play with the big boys. Its not like the teams Gordon Gee was supporting (wisc, OSU, MSU) didnt play a total of 4 ranked teams between the 3 of them. Dont see what the difference is. Cant help who you play for conference play, but you can for non-con games.

jordo212000It's like you have to have black and white footage of your team from the 50s before you can be taken seriously. Just because you don't play in the SEC or Big 10 doesn't make you garbage. I think we have all seen the Big 10's recent performance. The conference isn't the gauntlet that some make it out to be
