Mahoning Valley teams in 09-10
-
YSUGOLFWhat are some of the top teams this upcoming season. Poland? Harding? YCS? Those are probably the top three. What about Fitch? Will they ever be good again. Is John Cullen still coaching at Canfield? How does Liberty look and any opinions on their new coach? Girard and coach Cochran? Let's talk.....
-
BigDean1Harding, Poland, Campbell Memorial, Canfield, Youngstown Christian.

sports_talkBig, Why is Campbell a power in th valley? Are you basing this on returners or new comers. Can you give us a preview of this team.

I bet you know everything about why or why not they will contend for titles....be it AAC, District or Regional. You just want Big Deans opinion. We already know you follow the Valley closely buddy.
Glad to see you aboard the new site. -
77LegendHarding is stacked again, and they have reloaded. Be on the lookout for them.

Sports, you are correct. I am basing my assumption on the core of players Campbell has returning. As far as a preview, Coach D. plans to have five young men running around in a rectangular space which is made of wood and has lines, straight and circular painted on it in certain areas. Those five young men have to bounce the ball, pass the ball to each other, and throw the ball into and through a round cylinder ten feet above the floor, which is mounted onto a rectangular piece of transparent fiberglass, within that rectangular wooden space. When it's time for everyone to go home, Coach D, his staff, Campbell fans, and the Campbell huddlers would rather have the five young men representing them to have finished off the evening with higher numbers posted on an electronic gizmo that is mounted on walls of the building, where the rectangular space which is made of wood and has lines, straight and circular on it in certain areas is located than the group of young men wearing the different colored costumes do. CardsFlyinHighCanfield should be strong this year and thankfully I believe moving back down to D2. Should be great competition with Poland for Red Tier supremecy and district title.
AAC White, people have been telling me good things about Salem and knowing some of the pure athletes they have, I can see them being successful in their tier.
Blue Tier belongs to Campbell -
wgh raiderhowland is going to D1.

sports_talk"It is comforting knowing that some things never change" Hoosiers. You Campbell guys never change. I guess that is why I like you guys so much. I will make sure i have a front row seat for at least 2 games and view a couple from the cheap seats early on.
And I am not trouble maker! -
cmhs_prideWe know sports!! We like messing with, although Bigdean took it to a whole new level in that last post. But i give him props for a very descriptive look at the game itself.
I guess I will call Campbell a power within the Valley because of one, the coaching staff, two...the number of returning young men that were a part of last years regional team, and three.....their ability to have a successful season for the most part on a yearly basis.
I think they can play with pretty much each and every team in the valley. Harding would be a tall glass i would say. Poland and Canfield would be no easy order either, but they can play with them. Within their conference tier......they control their own destiny. Labrae and the Falls......nobody else should even come close. The district.....they find themselves right back in the championship for sure....IF...and I said IF they can play the 1st qtr. the way they play the 2nd 3rd and 4th qtrs. -
QuakerOatsI think Salem should be pretty strong, especially once a couple of the football guys get 're-acquainted' with the game after going to the 12th week in football.
-
bulldog8Poland should prove to be very strong this season. The Dogs made it to the district championship last year before being eliminated by Streetsboro I believe. Poland has everyone back this year as they only graduated 1 senior who was their QB in football last year - he did not play much in hoops, but wanted to play and have fun his senior season before going on to play football at YSU. With their top 8-10 players back this season and the addition of Darius Patton to the mix, Poland should be in a perfect situation to run their fast-paced style of play that Grisdale has incorporated the past 2 years. Patton reportedly averaged around 25 ppg last year while playing at Penn Hills and the area has seen what he can do on the football field, but supposedly he's even better on the bball court. I think the Dogs will be the team to beat in the AAC.

GoPensThis is the year that they readjust the Districts. Some teams moving up, some teams moving down. Some new faces in the Salem D-III Tournament this year. Has more of a Stark/Portage feel to it than in the past. Might be interesting when it comes to voting for seeds.

sports_talkwow the Boardman district looks like a cake walk for th Dogs except don't forget to play against West Branch. THy seem to not care who you are!
-
cmhs_prideSports....I am going on record and saying Struthers gives a few teams fits this year.
-
SQ_Craziessports_talk--I've got many friends from WB. Paid very close attention to them always, being that they are still Salem's big rival. No matter what anyone wants to say, it's not heated like it used to be but it's the most fun game of the year in most sports. But that's the West Branch mindset in everything--it's why they're usually good in football. They don't always have the best players, but they don't care who they line up across from. It's a good mindset to have.
