royal_kElmwood's win over Eastwood was very impressive last night. Coach Traxler had a plan offensively and a plan defensively, and the team carried it out. They pressed full coart and packed in a zone that frustrated Eastwood all night. They had several tipped balls, from passes being thrown inside, and forced Eastwood to beat them by shooting from places they didn't want to. (2-16 from the 3 point line) They spread it out offensively, made the extra pass, and finally shot like they're capable of. Rolf is a very good player (16 pts 12 reb) but he didn't get much help from anyone else. Elmwood's press really bothered them as well. They played up to their abilities and got a big win. I'm telling you right now this team is better than they've shown, up to this point. They took leads into the 4th quarter against New Riegel and McComb, but lost both. Both are very solid teams and I believe undefeated. It's a long season and way too early to determine what a team will look like come tournament time.

TALKisCHEAP13Royal K...I am one to agree with you alot but Elmwood has lost much of my respect for this season. I just couldnt believe the effort they put forth when they played Genoa. It was embarrassing. Im very glad that they are making a turn around. Hopefully, round 2 will be better than round 1.

TALKisCHEAP13Tomorrow (baring the weather) Genoa hosts Otsego. Hopefully Genoa box and 1's Weisenborn, similar to what they did to Craft in the second half. If they do this, I would really like Genoas odds!

bwcomet89Genoa had every chance to win this game and kept giving the ball back to Otsego. With the lead and about thirty seconds left Bassitt had the ball and it looked like he was tripped and it turned into a traveling call. Not sure if he was really tripped, I wasn't close enough to the play, but it was close. Then, game tied, with 17 seconds left Clark stepped out of bounds and gave the ball right back to Otsego. Weisenborn took care of the rest. He is the best player in the SLL right now. The final was 47-45. Lester lead with 21 and Weisenborn had either 17 or 15. The scoreboard turned off too quickly.

insuranceguy^^^Couldnt make it tonight. Previous engagement. How many did Wonnell have?
-
hookshotEastwood edges Gibsonburg by a score of 52-46 if I've got my numbers right.
-
bwcomet89I believe Wonnell had 5, but played good defense, He didn't shoot too well, but at the same time he was orbited by 2-3 people all night. They should have put the ball in Lester's hands more because he was left open while Otsego played what looked like a box plus 1.

royal_kElmwood over PH 48-30
Hannah led with 15 I believe, Rothenbuhler with 9, and Tyson had 8. -
insuranceguyWonnell had 5? If I am getting this right, they collasped on him What did everyone else do?
-
hookshotWhat a messy league race. Maybe not all that strong in terms of teams, but entertaining in a way.
-
bwcomet89The box collapsed on Wonnell and it was hard for anyone to get the ball to him. The plus one spent much of his time on Bassitt, but overall Otsego played very disciplined defense and make Genoa work for every shot. Lester spent most of his night open and that's what lead to his 21 points, but imo they should have put the ball in his hands more. That may have opened up Otsego's zone and made life a little easier for everyone. Genoa tried a version of the 1-3-1 for much of the 2nd half, with either Eli or Clark following Weisenborn the entire time. It didn't work as well as they had hoped though as Weisenborn scored I think 13 of his points in the second half. Genoa is now on a three game losing streak with an SLL record of 1-2. Otsego is sitting 1st in the league.

Swamp FoxHats off to those pesky Knights for stepping up with a huge victory over Genoa. Weisenborn made a play in the closing seconds to get his team another improbable victory and did it on the road. Could it be that Otsego will hang in there and win this thing?? I know it's early but.......??? And how about the apparent resurgence of the Royals? The SLL favorite changes as often as the weather. Eastwood is still in the middle of things but Genoa is at the point where they really can't afford many more losses if they hope to be fighting for a championship at season's end.

Genoa is in the midst of a terrible season I am afraid to say. Unless this senior class steps up, which their very capable of, Genoa is in big time trouble. Noone agrees with the play calling or lack there of or the positions there thrown into and the players are getting pretty discouraged.
On last nights game.... Genoa has a foul to give with 9 secs left....foul Weisenborn and the game is over. But even before that, Genoa has the ball out of bounds with a tie ball game with 15 secs left. Otsego shows press so Genoa calls a time out. Why in the heck do you have Matt passing the ball in bounds? Your strongest ball handler and on of your best free throw shooters is out of the play completely because of this. It literally makes no sense to have him EVER pass the ball inbounds. Story goes...Bassitt passes the ball in, turnover, time out otsego, Weisenborn hits the shot. Really really bad play selection down the stretch. Genoa didnt deserve to win that game at all last night.
Like I told many last night....the winner of the league will have at least 2 losses... Genoa simply cant lose another game. -
royal_kOtsego comes to Elmwood thursday.
Should be fun night with the winner in good position to stay in the league title chase. -
Swamp FoxThat Otsego-Elmwood game will be interesting. Elmwood is coming on and Otsego is hanging in these games and finding a way to win. I would say that something has to give in Jerry City on Thursday night. It should be highly entertaining!

Omg you know what would be a great idea, to move Wonnell around. He is actually really fast for his size so get him moving around more instead of just leaving him down low doubleteamed and then not being able to give him the ball. I have to admit if any team in the SLL runs the Box & 1 against the Comets they have a decent shot at beating them because Bassitt and Wonnell are really it for this team. Heck Lester had 21 to take off the pressure from those two and we still couldnt beat Otsego at home on a Friday night. This teams offense is just terriblebwcomet89 wrote: The box collapsed on Wonnell and it was hard for anyone to get the ball to him. Yup I can definitely agree with thisTALKisCHEAP13 wrote: No one agrees with the play calling or lack there of or the positions there thrown into and the players are getting pretty discouraged. -
bwcomet89There are a few things would change about Genoa's offense, but then I remembered I'm not Genoa's head coach. I may not be Overmeyers biggest fan but he is going to be the head coach for the rest of the season, he probably doesn't look at this site, and complaining about him just isn't worth it to me. Moving Wonnell around may have been a good idea because the box closed him off most all of the game, but the offense doesn't have to go through him every game. There are three players on Genoa that can take over a game(Which is enough to win in the SLL) and it would be highly advised to put it in their hands when they are hot. I mean Lester was left wide open on several occasions, give him the ball. He lead the team in points and shooting percentage last year there should have been a lot more confidence in him to hang 30+ on Otsego. The Knights shouldn't have won last night, but did because they came at Genoa and the Comets didn't adjust too well. Luckily for Genoa they get a chance at revenge in Otsego in a few weeks.

bwcomet89Genoa 66

Well rounded game offensively for Genoa, Wonnell lead with 21, Lester and Clark had 11, Eli and Bassitt had 9. Flick lead Woodmore with 11. -
royal_kOtsego over Elmwood in OT 51-50
Ried Rothenbuhler missed a shot from the top of the key at the buzzer for Elmwood. Jay Hannah and TJ Waldock led the Royals with 16 each. Wiesinborn with 19 and Gerwin 12 for Otsego, including 3 pointers at the halftime and 3rd quarter buzzers. Very tough game to lose for Elmwood. They fought back after being down 39-30 and tied it up at 43 to force OT. Great atmosphere and very exciting game. Otsego has a very nice team and IMO Weisinborn is the best player in the SLL.
