I wasnt going to come over but I figured im talking to SLL people again not ORRVILLE people...those people dont have a brain in their head. Im looking forward to a clean respectable SLL title run for whatever team!

Nice to see you all again!

    May the best team win!

Genoa has an interesting match up with Oak Harbor friday night. Early report's are positive about the new Oak Harbor coach and their is some talent on the team. I'd give Genoa the edge because Oak Harbor has no size but if Wonnell get's in foul trouble it could get interesting.

Hopefully their is an improvement in the quality of officiating this season. It was downright terrible last season.

    Napoleon at Eastwood
    Swanton at Otsego

Gibsonburg and Woodmore don't play this weekend.

Genoa should win but it looks like it might be a long weekend for the SLL IMO.

I wish the Royals well, but it is very rarely much fun to open at Liberty Benton.
It would be a pretty large upset in my opinion, but it certainly would be a great win for the Suburban Lakes League. Go Royals!
  • royal_k
Yeah, it would be quite the upset if the Royals go into LB and pull out the win. They will have to execute well on offense, not turn the ball over, and rebound on the defensive end. Because rebounding will lead to running, which is what they do well.

    Final score

    Bettsville 62
    Lake 52

    Genoa 57
    Oak Harbor 42

I think that's what the score was, varsity was out for Genoa most of the 4th. Lester played minimal time with his elbow injury, Cuevas didn't dress, and Wonnell sat a lot with a sore ankle. Bassitt lead the team in points with 18, followed by Wonnell with 13.

Follow up on what BWComet said...

    Bassitt 18-6-7
    Wonnell had 13-8-2
    Lester had 8-5-1
    (Points-rebounds-assists) all unofficial

Genoa looked good for who they had to play with. Wonnell to me is night and day from a year ago. Ive been one to be very hard on him because I, along with many others, expect a 6'9'' kid to DOMINATE. He is learning too. He has post moves and doesnt get into foul trouble. Another game note, Bassitt had 1 foul all game (charging foul)- Wonnell had one foul (over the back), and Lester had 2 fouls. That needs to stay the same for them to win a title. Starters were out with 5:32 left in the 4th quarter.

Good Luck to Elmwood, Eastwood, and Otsego tomorrow. The SLL is rooting for you!

Nice game Genoa. Looks like they played well for being banged up. How many players do they play in their normal rotation?

Once Lester and Chris Cuelvas (spellings wrong there)...Genoa will run with 6 people in big games. I know its the first game but Genoas team played like a "team". They looked completely different than last year. Whats different- maturity, new coach, new attitiude, maybe all the above...i dont know!

Eastwood should be the favorite Sat. night over a young Napoleon team tht may only win a handful of games this season.

How about a sweep for the SLL tonight......I can always dream.

Well after last nights game I truly believe that Genoa will be the team to beat this year in the SLL. They showed glimpses of it in a preview against Waite where they came back to almost win and then last nite with a banged up team we beat Oak Harbor pretty good. Once Cuevas comes into our lineup and our two premier post players get healthy I think this team is clearly the best in the SLL. I guess we'll see if what I said comes true next Friday against Eastwood

I will never ever believe that Oak Harbor has improved ever again. Look's like it's going to be another year of having to consider paying the fan's to watch.

So is OH that bad or was it Genoa's play that determined the outcome?
  • Tinkertrain
    Probably a mix of both.
  • TALKisCHEAP13
From the most unbiased thinking I can do...Genoa played almost that good to say they just straight out beat the rockets. If the starters played the whole game, Genoa would have won by about 30, maybe 40.

On Oak Harbor, they have improved. They have the athletes but they found it is hard to shoot over a 6'9'' kid. Their shooting was terrible unless left wide open. Oak Harbor probably shot 30 percent or something like that.

    Elmwood lost at LB 61-39.

Were down 17 at the half and went to 20 early in the 4th. They managed to cut it to 13 with 5 minutes left, but couldn't get any closer. LB went to their semi stall and Elmwood was forced to either take chances on defense or foul. The 1st half was a matter of missing shots and LB making theirs. They had plenty of good looks but couldn't make them. And they got very few fast break points, which is what they do best. They handled Craft fairly well (17 pts) but he did have quite a few assists. TJ Waldock, off the bench, led Elmwood with 12 points. I waas impressed with their effort in the second half. It was a totally different game. But you can't spot a good team 17 points.

I really like Otsego's coach and the point guard Weisenborn is their catalyst. They are under the radar but they hustle all the time and you can't take anything for granted when you play those guys...particularly over in Tontogany!;)
