2009 2010 Suburban Lakes League basketball

bwcomet89If anyone from another SLL team was at Eastwood tonight, they have to think they have a chance to beat either of these teams on a given night. Both teams were very sloppy like mentioned above, a lot of turnovers and unneccesry fouls. I believe Ruch lead in scoring with 19 before he fouled out, Bassitt 17, Wonnell 13, Rolf 8(or 9, not sure).
-
royal_kThe score I got for that game was
Eastwood 52
Genoa 48 -
royal_kSome times when 2 evenly matched teams play in a big game, you will get results like that. I t could be a combination of tuff defense along with players trying to do too much. No matter how you look at it, both teams have a height advantage. It will be hard to match up with them for most SLL teams.
-
insuranceguy^^^ No like usual Sll basketball stinks. Watch what Liberty Benton does to Eastwood tomorrow. There is absolutely no team in this league that anyone fears in the tournament and there has not been for a long time. No team has a pray of making regionals
-
royal_kElmwood made Regionals a few years back. You never know. All it takes is a team peaking and playing their best basketball at the right time. It's early in the season. I have a hard time judging teams this early. Some teams get better throughout the year, some don't. That's what makes it interesting.
-
insuranceguyWho was last team to make it to the state final four in boys basketball in the sll? I know thats a lofty goal sometimes but its been a long time. It was 1982 Oak Harbor. You would have thought some team would have made it if this conference was any good. The SLL has a long way to go in basketball.

royal_kFinal
LB 51

Sounds like insuranceguy has an SLL hatred, based upon his posts and weak avatar. Is that you Dan?insuranceguy wrote: Who was last team to make it to the state final four in boys basketball in the sll? I know thats a lofty goal sometimes but its been a long time. The SLL is what it is, and has never been, or claimed to be a state powerhouse in Basketball.
Please walk up the stairs from your parents basement and go whack yourself in the shower, maybe you will feel better. -
ross ford81LB 51-34. Craft with 26 points. LB without shooting guard (Benson) after Friday night knee injury.
-
bwcomet89Liberty Benton roughs up another SLL team, and Genoa is in the near future. I see LB putting a beat down on many if not all their regular season opponents this year though. The SLL may be poor again this year, but at the same time this league is not really known for hoops prowess. We could bring out the dead horse again and beat it senselessly in an attempt to determine why the SLL doesn't put out top notch basketball programs every year, or we can accept that SLL bball is just not going to be as good as our neighboring leagues.
-
insuranceguy^^^^ It hasnt been as good as neighboring leagues for a long time.
-
oberhausRoss Ford........final was 51-32. And only that close because Eastwood PRESSED the LB bench players for the last minute of the game.
-
oberhausWhat's funny about that gamer is that Eastwood actually shot well. 15-27 if I remember right. But you see the problem there.....they only got off 27 shots!! I knew guard play would be an issue in this game. If you don't have someone to get the ball down to the Big Men, then thos big men are useless.
-
hookshotOberhaus, not to get too picky about this, but Ross was correct -- the score was 51-34. The scoreboard operator did not put Eastwood's last basket on the board. Eastwood was just outmatched by a Big Ten point guard. Also, in the first half, Eastwood could not get the ball to Rolf for scoring opportunities. The Eagles should be fine in the SLL (will lose between 0 and 2 games) but will struggle elsewhere.
-
Classyposter58This is a very good baseball league but no it is certainly not a powerful basketball league

That is putting it nicely. They didn't even look inside to Rolf, I could be wrong on this but I don't believe he had any FG attempts in the first half. At 6'8" or whatever he is, he should be the first option every trip down the court. The first 5 or so offensive possessions of the 2nd half they forced the ball inside, and Rolf either scored an easy bucket or was fouled.hookshot wrote: Oberhaus, not to get too picky about this, but Ross was correct -- the score was 51-34. As far as guard play goes, Eastwood did a good job of handling the ball, but there were way too many lazy passes thrown that were either stolen or ended up in the crowd. The good thing for Eastwood is those types of errors can be corrected. -

My thoughts exactlyClassyposter58 wrote: This is a very good baseball league but no it is certainly not a powerful basketball league -
oberhausWell that explains the difference in the score. Oh well. I was taking pictures so I had to go by what the scoreboard said. My apologies to Ross Ford.
-
hookshotkaren lotz: Your opinion about Rolf and Eagle guard play is probably shared by quite a few others, but not by me. First, Liberty Benton just did a great job of defending Rolf in the first half -- he wasn't in a position to receive a pass to score. So, either credit to the Eastwood coaching staff for figuring it out and getting Rolf the ball in the second half, or blame them for not knowing what to do earlier. Either way, Williman is a tremendous defensive coach and it showed big time Saturday night. As for the Eagle guards and turnovers, this is not all that correctable in the 2009-10 season. This will be a weakness all year but not so much that Eastwood can't go 15-5 or 16-4 in a relatively weak league.

Swamp FoxI would concur with those that say that this year's SLL Basketball Teams are competitive and hard working but it appears that there is not an elite team among them. This in no way is designed to malign or run down the Sll Teams. There will still be great crowds, the fans will go crazy as always, the Champion will have to battle to the last second of the last quarter of the season, but there doesn't seem to be any "aircraft carriers" in the League this year. I still think Eastwood has the edge, although the closeness of their game with Genoa shows me how even the top few teams are. Literally, anything can and probably will happen.
-
nmecccSLL teams will have great crowds in some great HS venues. I love making the rounds to these spots during Bball season!

TinkertrainLake get's the win over Oak Harbor tonight. Not sure of the final score but Lake was up by 8 when I left with about a minute to go. Lake was greatly aided tonight by oak harbor playing the worst quarter of basketball i've ever seen in my life. Lake led 19-1 after 1.
I'm not sure what to make of the Flyer's. It seem's like they are not playing up to their talent level? Way too many mental mistake's and why the big guy spends most of his time out beyond the key is beyond me. -
royal_kFinal was
Lake 54
OH 43 -
bwcomet89Genoa 69
Elmwood 42
Wonnell lead with 22, Lester had 19, and Bassitt with 12. Royal_k was right. Big time mismatch down low.
