Who do you think will fill the job?

Hopefully they will do a thorough job at researching candidates and not fall back into the old Lake style of fill from within, or hire one of the admins buddies. That stuff has been going on too long, and will get them nowhere.
Idk who will get the job but I think they should do the same thing Woodmore did in football and go for a guy who has been an assistant under a very good coach
Who did Woodmore hire, and where did he coach prior. Thanks.

But an assistant under a "very good" coach at Lake Basketball, you'd have to go back a few decades. Hopefully they find a good coach that will drive the program in the right direction for the long term.

Plenty of guards in Genoa history better than Bassitt as well. Taking nothing away from Bassitt but this debate just isn't real.
  • insuranceguy
Bassitt does not make the top 20 from Genoa period.
No order here-Hammye, Shaneck, Niehaus,Shessler,Feckley,Hodiluk,Fair,Rudey,B Meyer,Mollenhaur(sp),Bullock,Hanley,K Brown, R Brown,Hornyak,Falter,Mancionotti(sp),Goodman,Goodman,B Witt to name a few imo were all better than Bassitt. I know if I thought more I could come up with more.

    Rudey?? Nice try.
  • insuranceguy
No not the Rudey from Notre Dame. Lol A player from the 1979 regional team Tim Rudey.

Don't worry, I know. Better golfer than basketball player, but not much of either.

There football coach was an assistant under Cocke at Otsego and then the last few years under Inselmann at Patrick Henry

I think if Lake goes about this vacancy, filling it with their recent hiring tendancies, will find someone that will get people excited about the program, buy into it and participate. Boys Basketball at Lake has been non-existent except for one winter back in 98-99 I believe but the problem doesnt lie with what happens during the season. There is no participation in the summer, not sure if they even go to open gyms, and to my knoweledge, do nothing in the "off-season" to better themselves or the program. It's going to take a coach to come in and not let kids have the mentality that basketball is just a bridge from football to baseball.

Im pretty sure they will head this thing in the right direction though, you can only get it wrong so many times. Even the girls program found somebody that could right their ship, and also puts a lot more butts into seats than the boys.

That man knew how to coach. I believe they won NLL in '84 under him and had many other successful seasons in what is a much tougher conference than the SLL. Now he probably wouldn't come back but if there is anyone they should get, it is him

Not funny. Mr. Smith just passed away 2 months ago.

I believe it was a brain tumor, but not sure. Sadly, in his last months, he could have still done a better job than Lake's last several coaches.

Yes he could have easily. How many NLL's did they win under him?

gcg-were you even alive in the 80's? How do you know "the man could coach" and that he could have EASILY done a better job than others. Just curious.

I have though started the "bring back Bart" campaign for the basketball job. Ill let classyposter fill you in on the details of his career as Im sure he will know all about him.

On a more serious note, if the word on the street is indeed a fact, I like the direction in which things are heading. Speaking of that direction ghmothwdwhso I believe I owe you some mel-o-creme

I have no fucking idea what you just tried to say. Who the fuck is gcg?

If the word on the street is correct, God help Lake sports, they would be going down a dark hole, and they won't realize it until it is too late.

If you like that direction, I wouldn't take free Ice-Cream from you, no matter who you are.

Was the initial offer of mel-o-creme related to the Lake girls BB program? Please inform me.

Is it the freshman coach taking over??? That could be interesting.
  • lhs2ndbase

My dad talked about them all the time growing since he went to Lake in the Mid 80s. I couldnt believe the success they had in NLL but I cannot remember if they won more than one league title. I've heard nothing but great stories about Smith and how he was indeed a very classy person and he won too
