I hope winters takes his man pills before the game as he will need to be very strong at the rim.

With what I read in the paper the other day after Norwayne beat Northwestern (the blood bath game), it sounds like Coach West of Norwayne likes his boys to play physical..I like that.

That is going to be an exciting atmosphere with some "hard" fouls I am sure!
There were really no "hard fouls" in the Norwayne/NW game. The NW kid (Covert) got caught with an accidental head butt in the second round, er, quarter that the refs missed. Norwayne's point guard got tackled once, but that was also somehow a no-call. Norwayne was more physical, but really nothing brutal occurred that wasn't accidental. I haven't heard anything about the NW player - I hope nothing lingers because he was down for a long time. The problem in that game was that one ref made most of the calls and missed alot.

That said, I would hope for 2 or 3 good experienced refs for the Orrville/Norwayne rematch, er, basketball contest.

Well big one for Orrville tonight heading to Clear Fork, long trip on the bus for the kids. Hopefully we can build on what we did last week against Wooster. GO RIDERS!

Oh man! Going downhill real fast!

    4 wins this season? Maybe
  • Riderwannabe
as my dad always said if the seniors arnt getting it done and the team isnt winning and your 1/4 of the way into the season its time for a line up change, play the young kids
  • riders1
    And your dad coached where?
  • ridernation
So which Seniors should we throw under the bus? According to the paper 3 seniors lead in scoring. Haven't seen a game so just asking a question.
  • Riderwannabe
well you have 1 win maybe its time for a change
  • ridernation
So give me your starting 5 and the first 2 guys off the bench.

I think we need to see a little less 'me' and a little more 'we.'

Hopefully Wooster can bring that out.
Being a senior does not necessarily make one a "leader", so perhaps one should look to find leadership characteristics in each player, you might be surprised and find it in a freshman.

Well...it's probably understood what may happen if an Orrville coach should lose to Wooster!
RedRider1;1023745 wrote:Times have changed....can't just have 'Orrville' across your jersey and automatically win games. I think we saw that during football season...
    I told you that earlier didn't I!

Perhaps Coach Sly needs to "blow up" before each game!

Old Rider seems to know of 2 that should at least be given an opportunity. If they don't work out, what's the worst that could happen, a loss? You've got that now with the "senior" leadership!
  • Old Rider
I don't care who plays, who scores, who plays better defense, or what grade you are in......just win!

To win games though will require some talent....Lets face it...kids with true "basketball abilities" are few and far between here in Red Rider country and it may stay that way for some time.

I am sure Coach Slaughter is frustrated and looking for the right combo of players to put a winner on the floor...maybe its time for the youngsters to get more time???

Until then ... Good Luck Orrville!

Here's how I see the season so far. Our "basketball sense or knowledge" of the game is lacking. The two players who play that understand the game best are Landis and Summers. Summers on the other hand need to see more time. He is used as the 6th man but should be in the starting line up. This team makes many mental mistakes and lacks offensive production. I believe we have the players but were trying to be too balanced. We need to do a better job of finding mismatches and utilize our athletes. We seem to struggle running an offense and it looks like playground. We played well against Wooster but were finding their really not that good. I agree some of our seniors are not producing on both ends of the court. Again they're good athletes but lack basketball skill.

With all the grumbling about the OCC and how Orrville doesn't like their league...then join the WCAL, then MAYBE we can win a league title in football or basketball.

It may be the only league we could be competitive in with the talent we have in both sports!
  • Flash
Were looking at league prospects all the time, but not the WCAL. At Orrville we don't mind losing some if were contenders at tournament time. Last year no winning record, but won district and very little grumbling after that. We may not have the talent this year to win district and that will make the natives restless. Time to redistribute playing time and see if there are other contributors. Seems to be only 2 other prospects that aren't on varsity full time, we haven't seen Turner and Smith much due to injury. Will those two make a difference once they play more?
  • RedRider1
If we're comparing "talent" to that which was seen in the 90's, then our logic is flawed.

those were 2 "once in a generation" teams that just happened to occur within 5 years of each other and produce 3 state titles.

We have talent on this team, but it's not the "transcendant" talent that we've seen in the past. We don't have a go-to guy in the 4th when we're nursing a small lead and need a clutch basket.

Again, we're spoiled by our successes. It's very easy to say "we just need to win," but it's easier said than done.

We're staring down the barrell of what may potentially be a 6-8 win season....at best.

When you're not the most talented team out of the locker room, you have to out-work, out-hustle and out-execute, and I'm not seeing that a whole lot.

Patience is a tough virtue when you're 1-5.
