It may be the only league we could be competitive in with the talent we have in both sports!
Competitive...but not dominate. Competition and Coaching has caught up....

WCAL dont want ya! The sportmanship is lacking.
Perhaps the PAC may be interested. Possible due to the S.O.S We have constantly been reminded of, and how weak the WCAL is...an independent option may better suit you.Old Rider;1036828 wrote:WCAL here we come...
Beast just stopping in to say Hi!! -
FlashYou mean sportsmanship like when the Smithville fans waited for the Norwayne players to leave the field and "cheered" them? Or the Norwayne players video? Or etc. etc. We'll stay in the OCC and be last. We'd be no worse than 3rd in the WCAL this year. Norwayne and Hillsdale might be able to beat us, but no one else.

RedRider149-46 Madison wins. Trailed the whole game again.
How many losses have we had in the last 2 years where we trail all game..make it interesting at the end, but lose by 4-8 points??
1-6 and our next 2 are at Norwayne and vs. Senior. -
FlashOrrville loses to Madison in a close one 49-46, but its one we could have won. A lot of positive lessons to be learned from this one. Shoot foul shots better, maintain composure and manage clock. But this loss gives me hope because we played with more intensity. We aren't a skilled team, but intensity and athleticism can make a difference. I thought Turner, Zook and Short all helped that intensity factor by scrapping for rebounds and guarding. This game gives me hope that we can contend in the district. We'll see where we stand on Tuesday at Norwayne but I think we advanced with this game. Sly will fine tune this team by tournament time. Will it be enough to win, only time will tell.

It's a good thing that Madison's shooting went cold that allowed Orrville to catch up.Flash;1041608 wrote:Orrville loses to Madison in a close one 49-46, but its one we could have won. How about the half-court, alley-oop inbound to Brenner play? They'd be running laps right after the game for that! Coaches too if that was their call!
Very late in the 4th, Brenner dunks, Orrville has 1-point lead, all the Red Rider players are celebrating, two Madison players open at their goal, long in-bound to them for the easy score and lead!
Red Riders would "still" be running laps! -

ridernationSeries- Finally something I can say I honestly agree with you on. I think they should still be running and when they are done shooting free throws, running somemore, if they back talk run some more. Hussle mistakes I can live with, complete lack of discipline mistake start running and I will tell you when to stop. I have to believe the half-court ally-opp play had to be called because we just came out of a time-out, way to much time left in game for that play.

riders1First time I have ever seen both teams try that alley oop and have it go off the backboard and out of bounds, and never recall one going off the board and out on the other midcourt line. If either team shot 60 to 70 % on free throws in that 4th quarter they would have won easily. Poorest shooting team was going to lose.
Madison made only 14 of 49 from the floor for 28%, but 9 of the 14 were 3's , 9 of 24 for 28 % on 3's, so only 5 baskets from 2 point land and a dismal 12 of 26 on free throws for 46 %
Both coaches should see some running in practice after foul shots and running , foul shots and more running! -
FlashMadison shot poorly because they were defended and forced to shoot 3's especially the last part of that quarter, but I agree with the foul shooting by both teams and the questionable alley oop. But think about it, we didn't play that well and had a chance at the end. As I said above maintain composure and manage the clock, which we didn't do. We got a T, threw the ball away, tried and alley oop, didn't defend after a basket. Eliminate two of those and we win. Obviously were 1 and 7 (?) for a reason, but I thought we played harder this game than others.

riders11-6 , for now with Norwayne and Senior on the road next week. Really haven't been embarrassed by anyone other than Hiland, we just have let the other games get away from us by starting out badly and not able to regroup and finish well. We have no go to guys in the 4th quarter and a guard who likes to bounce pass to the knees of the big in the middle and not throw it up where he is above the defenders.

RedRider1I had a former player tell me after a big win over Triway at home, the coach didnt think they played terribly well and they ran the halls IMMEDIATELY after the game.
I'm sure it's tough on the players and the coaches and I don't know that any of us could produce different results, so being negative about it won't change reality.
We pressed vs. Wooster and won, but not against CF. did we press (the good press) last night? -

Orrville played harder but not smarter, and shame on the coaches if they are calling those ridiculous plays, Orrville is not "that" athletic!Flash;1042270 wrote:Madison shot poorly because they were defended and forced to shoot 3's especially the last part of that quarter, but I agree with the foul shooting by both teams and the questionable alley oop. I've heard that discipline is non-existent and practice is a joke, I don't know if it's true or not!
What does 1-6 tell you! -

Noone's being negative and they should be running the court, shooting free throws, continually passing the ball from different spots on the floor to Winters (up high), at the post, and more running the court! Do not run the halls, that concrete is not good for the joints!RedRider1;1042403 wrote:I had a former player tell me after a big win over Triway at home, the coach didnt think they played terribly well and they ran the halls IMMEDIATELY after the game.

Where ever you got your information about practice being a joke and there is no discipline, is DEAD WRONG!Series62;1042422 wrote:Orrville played harder but not smarter, and shame on the coaches if they are calling those ridiculous plays, Orrville is not "that" athletic!

Old RiderI know that my nephew said Wednesday was one of the hardest practices that he has ever been a part of. I think the coaches and players are working hard, but with a lack of wins and suddenly the season becomes no "fun" anymore. Still have to be able to have fun, but that usually goes hand-in-hand with WINNING...
Keep working hard! -
RedRider1Someone is reaching for straws about the coaching staff and their methods. Nice to see others setting the record straight on how things are run during practice.
Like OldRider said...it's no fun, but you have to keep plugging away & get better each day.
Record is not indicative of the effort the kids or the coaches are giving... -
OQBI think another thing we have to look at is that these kids have been successful in a lot of different sports and expect to win. I think as fans we have been a little out of line in praising these kids a little too much, because I think some of them have it in their head that they can just show up and win because I am ________ and I play for Orrville. THAT is NOT the case and hard work, dedication, teamwork, and trust will go a long way to get this season back on track.
Coach Slaughter is a great coach and he is doing the best job he can to keep the basketball tradition strong in Orrville. -
rider80Very interesting thoughts.

RiderfanGood Luck Riders. play hard tonight
-
THE4RINGZNorwayne ranked #9 in the first poll of the season. Will revenge be on the minds of the Riders tonight?
-
RedRider1It shouldn't be. Win #2 and a win over the district favorite would be fine by me. If kids let crowd get under their skin with "let's play football" chant...it will get ugly for Orrville.
