Exactly! I was not saying bring them to the varsity level and have them ride the pine....they need to be playing NOW!1_beast;1014301 wrote:they are they best kids to be on the floor!!!! Nepotism at Orrville runs deep! Put the young kids out there and exp. success...or stick with the older kids and be happy with .500
There are kids in a varsity uniform right now that are just taking up space...I would not be waiting for week 7 or 8 to find my top 8 guys. It is obvious who the best kids on the floor are...so play em already!
I think Sly is in a tough situation with Coach Landis on the bench and soon to be Coach Rocky, because the pressure is there to play their kids....unfortunately! -
RRRockWow what made them bring Rocky back? Did a coach quite? I heard a little about why Rocky had to step down a while back but i think with those coaches, Landis and Rocky, i hope Sly does not get pressured into playing there boys just because. I guess time will tell.

BRFIt's tough being a public figure with the social media of today.
-
Bloody MaryOld Rider so your saying that Landis and Smith deserve to be benched after 2 games? Their time should go to Short and Zook! Interesting that you want to bring up Zook, because don't you work for his Dad and maybe there is some pressure there for you to say bring up Joel just to kiss up to Mark? What exactly have those two done in the JV games to warrant any tiime at the Varsity level? Are you at practice to see them go against the varsity everyday and know something that we all don't? When is the last time you have ever coached? Coach Slaughter and the coaches are doing a good job, so why don't you support them, the program, and the players!
-
FlashRocky has come back as a volunteer assistant. I don't think they are overplaying his kid. He was put in as a situation player and that was it. My opinion was Landis did a good job defending and was 2 for 3 shooting. He's not being overplayed in my opinion. I would have liked to see Zook used in the last game with Arnold because he's defended him thru all the Jr. high games and should have some knowledge of what works. Brice looks promising and that's why he's playing reserves rather than freshman. Time will tell with him.

He is giving his opinion and that is what this site is for - OPINIONS. I can tell you that Old Rider does support all Orrville athletics more so than most. There isnt a time Im ever in Orrville and dont see him at a game and reminisce about the current athletic teams. Hell I even see him in Canton quite a bit. He is a true Red Rider he just gets frustrated and deservingly so.Flash;1016341 wrote:Rocky has come back as a volunteer assistant. I don't think they are overplaying his kid. You seem to know alot about me. Thank you, I am glad that you have concerned yourself with my everyday doings in life.Bloody Mary;1016309 wrote:Old Rider so your saying that Landis and Smith deserve to be benched after 2 games? As for you post I will simply say this...If you think that Smith and Landis are in coaching for anything more than to have their kids playing, then you are fooling yourself! I know Ken and Rocky and I think they are good coaches, so I am not bashing them for their coaching ability and I am grateful that they have the time and sacrifice their time to help young athletes develop as a player and a person. My coaching started and stopped after one year at the 8th grade football level. The time commitment was not for me, but moreover, at the time I was looking for a teaching job and could not commit to anything else (3 kids will do that as well). I support these coaches 100%, hell my brother is one of them!
As for Zook and Short, no I am not at practice and I don't even talk to my brother about the situation. My comments were based on one thing....I just want to see a winning Red Rider team and I feel that those two fine basketball players could help the varsity team do just that...win. We are 0-2 and the season is early, but I bet by mid-season everything that I said in my first post regarding Zook and Short will come true, however this is Coach Slaughter's team and I feel confident that he will put a winner on the floor and they may not involve Zook or Short...time will tell! -

From this statement, it reads like you are at practice everyday.Bloody Mary;1016309 wrote:Are you at practice to see them go against the varsity everyday and know something that we all don't? When is the last time you have ever coached?
And I don't think anyone is questioning anyone...just want to see the best kids on the floor.
I'm confident that things will work themselves out by the halfway point in the season. -
Old RiderLet me clear some things up.
I do not want anyone to think I am bashing any of these kids on this team. I am simply talking about what I feel could help this team win...and my opinion means absolutely nothing and it is just my opinion!
As for benching Landis and Smith...I never once said "bench" a kid. However, I think (and this is my opinion again) there are players not playing as much that could be more productive from either an offensive or defensive standpoint than the ones we have out there....and I don't mean it is just Smith and Landis. Don't read too much in to my first post.
I said that it is unfortunate that Sly has that added pressure that two kids on the team have fathers who coach...that is all I meant by that statement. I personally would feel uncomfortable to have two fathers on my bench. -
RRRockI am an outsider on this (from Dalton) but I know Sly and their JV coach are also football coaches, I ask this question is this because Orrville cannot find coaches for basketball (other than parents)? I ask because I think coaches who coach multiple sports sometimes get pulled in 2 directions and cannot focus on one from the other. For example how does the head and JV coach in basketball and coach football get ready for the basketball season when football is going on. I would think that hurts the program IMO. I would think there are other coaches that
could coach football or basketball, what about junior high or freshmen coaches, are they wanting to move up?? -
OQBThey do get ready for basketball season and if the football team is still playing when basketball starts, those two coaches you mention have practice with their basketball teams after football practice. This makes for long long long days for them. Those two coaches are two of the best coaches in the state of Ohio and I'll take them over anyone. Slaughter and Haley don't get the credit they deserve and the job they have done with these kids is second to none!

I know Ken and Rocky also. I will disagree with this. I do not think they are coaching to get their kids playing time. I believe they both love the game and I wouldn't be surprised to see them coaching after their kids are done. Knowing these two, they will not pressure Sly to play their kids nor will they want their kids playing if they weren't doing the job. Also, Sly wanted Rocky back so I don't think he is really worried about having two dads on the bench with him. I think those three with Jason make a pretty good staff... -
Old RiderNever once have I bashed this staff nor would I ever.
-
RRRockOQB thats a bold statement but glad you feel that way, but a friend of mine that is a lot closer to the situation(Orrville Grad very into Orrville sports) said that yes Sly does both when basketball starts, but Haley does not come in till after football. Also said that he took off a week after football season and then took another week off to hunt. I really do not care what he does, but seems like Haley may be a little burned out after football. But if they have a solid coaching staff with Landis and whoever else then I am sure they fill in where needed. Does Orrville even have a freshmen team? I heard they have some freshmen playing JV so wasn't sure if they had one. Good luck to Orrville this weekend.

RedRider1Ashland wins 62-56...sounded like we trailed the whole game.
-
Old RiderRRRock and Blood Mary seem to know alot about the Haley family...kind of disturbing if you ask me.

milkpitcherWho is the AD?

Ashland came out hot with the 3's and we were in a 15-2 hole early! Red Riders battled back and got within 2 , but just not quite able to overcome the big hole they were in early.RedRider1;1017681 wrote:Ashland wins 62-56...sounded like we trailed the whole game.
