riders1Top scorers in the state only lists those over 2,000 points and there are 43 players at 2,001 or more, so I would guess the areas top, Ryan Berg at 1,945 might be in the top 50 in the state.

Mr. RussellNice work RR1. Pretty cool.
Kenny Kornowski: Smithville: 1,215 career points.Flash;1128515 wrote:West Holmes may be the only school record in jeopardy the next couple years with Brady Arnold having a chance. Anyone know his total after 2 years?
Alex Bates: After 3 years: 756 career points, 10th in school history.
To Break Record (22 Game Season Next Year, barring health)
20.9 PPG over 22 Games
19.96 PPG over 23 Games (Guaranteed Playoff Game)
19.13 PPG over 24 Games (1 Playoff Win)
18.4 PPG over 25 Games (2 Playoff Wins)
17.7 PPG over 26 Games (3 Playoff Wins)
It will be tough but if he remains healthy he undoubtedly will at least move into the top 3 with big-men Kenny Kornowski (2009) and Roger Ramseyer (1955).
Alex also has an outside shot at the career assist record of 378, as he currently sits in 3rd place in school history.
As far as Brady Arnold is concerned,
I have Brady at 718 points after his Soph. season.
Just from the 46 guaranteed games left Brady's last 2 seasons (barring heath), he needs to average 10.6 PPG over that time to break the record. If he is healthy it's safe to assume that he gets the record.
Something to watch for. Sharp-shooter Danny Peters has Wooster's all-time record with 1369 points. Freshman big-man and superb all-around athlete Cam Daugherty scored nearly 11 PPG this year to end with 234 points. If Cam were to put up the following numbers the rest of his career, he would break Danny's record and become the General's scoring leader.
SOPH: 13 PPG (1 Tournament Win, 24 Games)
JUNIOR: 16.5 PPG (1 Tournament Win, 24 Games)
Senior: 18 PPG (1 Tournament Win, 24 Games)
Those numbers, barring good health, would equal 1,374 points. However, I also see Wooster winning more than 1 playoff game over those 3 seasons, and Cam could score more than 17-18 PPG his final two seasons if he keeps progressing and Wooster makes an effort to get him the ball down low. -
BRFMr. Russell burning up the number 2 pencil with the calculations!
You mentioned Roger Ramseyer ....... He's a BRF favorite guy! Great author, too. -
RedRider1Mr russel...nice breakdown. Interesting thing about teams moving to 22 games. Over a 4 year career, that will be an extra 8 games and possibly 100-200 points for a career. It's not a lot but could impact scoring lists over time.
Look at guys like Kauffman & Denson, both had roughly the equivalent of a 5th season in tourney games over their 4 years..and their standings on the all-time lists were obviously impacted by their successes in the tournament. -
Old Rider* So do we need to use one of these beside any scoring record from here on out?
-
RedRider1If & when we get someone that approaches 1500 career points, we'll worry about it then.
Might be a while. -

riders1No more than the distinction from before and after the 20 games season started and the 3 point shots started.

BRF
That is right! As an example, Fitz Hurd bombed many longs ones for two......how many more points would he have had? At our school, I wonder how many more Ron Wachtel or Bruce Gerber would have had (to name a few)?riders1;1130315 wrote:No more than the distinction from before and after the 20 games season started and the 3 point shots started. -
Old RiderBobby Knight was once quoted saying he did not like the introduction of the 3 pt. line to college basketball.
Ironically, the NCAA introduced the 3 pt goal in the 1986-1987 season...the same year that Coach Knight won his last national title with the Indiana Hoosiers. I bet he wasn't complaining much after that season!
I think the 3 pt goal is good for the game, however in high school it seems to many kids try to chuck a 3 instead of working the ball and finding a better, high percentage shot. That is where it has hurt the game IMO.
