2010-2011 Orrville Red Rider Basketball

OQBAbsolutely, We need the guards involved even if it is just driving and dishing out....teams know we just stand outside and try to "lob" a pass into the bigs and we all know the result, a turnover!
-
BRFWhile I was busy typing, you came in with a good one, OQB. I like it.

Wasson seems to get a lot of early fouls as well....do we have him come off the bench as well? -

With all due respect, I have a hard time with that kind of reasoning. I would say start them with their "energy" and get us out to a great start. -

That is what I am thinking too....their athleticism creates problems with opposing teams and they create mismatches in their own way. Remember when we played SR at home...their PG was killing us, we put Turner on him and he turns the ball over creating some easy fastbreak points for us. That PG didn't play the same after he was put in. He can do that against every guard he is matched up with and create those easy points early and often.BRF;677399 wrote:With all due respect, I have a hard time with that kind of reasoning. OQBI'm not a basketball genius by any means lol, but I do know enough to believe these changes really could be beneficial to the team for the rest of the season and into the tourny.

I thought so earlier in the season but they showed very little on offense and feel the fouls and turnovers they make would actually work against us early, that's why I think bringing them from the bench would work to our advantage later in the game, something to look at in the next 3 games? -
OQBSo you would rather start the 3 young guns and have Winters/Brenner/Turner off the bench for the remainder of the regular season?

I think I would stick with Wasson, Pirman, Winters, and Ray, with the 5th open to who steps up in practice as a ball handler and assist type guard or outside shooter. I don't think Smith is ready to start unless he is ready to shoot when he gets the ball, the 5th should not be afraid to shoot or drive to the hoop and could maybe be Neer.OrrvilleQB;677432 wrote:So you would rather start the 3 young guns and have Winters/Brenner/Turner off the bench for the remainder of the regular season?
Any hits on your google search? -

What has that to do with your "lack of cheer" yesterday?

OQBAs I was reading the paper today, the front of the sports page really got my wheels turning....Everytime we talk about uniforms for Orrville a few people bring up black jerseys and the result is everyone flips out and goes crazy Typical response: (ABSOLUTELY NOT WE ARE THE RED RIDERS).....meanwhile almost all the girls teams have black uniforms, and nothing is said or done about this. Does anyone have the explanation to this? If we are so set on our school colors being Red and White (with black outlines/trim) and flipping out when black is even mentioned, then why do the girl's sports teams have black uniforms? The picture in the paper got me thinking about this topic and I was just curious if any of you guys new the reasoning being it.

With the new gym being built with the new high school.....we were originally going to be able seat around 1,500-1,800 in the gym. Since then they have cut that number back to I believe 1,200-1,300 so they can have more room around the perimeter of the court....so you can walk behind the bench etc...and not have to walk directly on the court.riders1;679042 wrote:Maybe when we get a full house, but no games were full house this season and there are a lot of empty seats in general admission. The idea is to keep people away from the court and with feet sticking out others walk on the court and wet shoes wet the court. Now if you were sitting there with a towel and wiping wet spots and popcorn .... So everything has to make sense to you or else it doesn't matter, it's no wonder you haven't the time to cheer like the rest of us do
We'll make a special center court seat for the one and only....maybe make some sort of contraption that everytime Orrville scores, a pin or nail pops out of the seat and pokes him so he will stand up and cheer -
RedRider1^^Lots of fans could use that.
Not sure about the black uniforms. I'm glad Coach Slaughter got rid of the black set for the boys team, just something traditional about our red uniforms.
I think more than anything....it's just a style thing. How many college teams have a black uni set? Duke is the BLUE devils, but they wear a dominant black uniform. Tons of other examples, too. For us, maybe it was decided on when Marcie was still the coach, and it's just something they have to live with until it's time to order new ones.
I think it started with the black shoes in the 90's. I distinctly remember our teams wearing black nikes, except for Dee Simpson (one of my favorite Riders growing up) who wore grey Nikes just to be different.
It's marketability thing that's started in the college game to sell apparel and filtered it's way down to high school. -
sports time ohioThe black uniforms for the girls are new this year and the old black ones were given to the JV's. They were selected by the girls.
-
OQB^that's what I thought...the volleyball team has always had black uniforms as well.
-
RedRider1^^That's usually the answer that is given.....it's the kids.
I'm fine with that...and I'm guessing that coach or AD has final approval. -
OQBlol, so are we saying we only want to show tradition in the boys programs, and we don't care what the girls wear?
-
RiderfanBlack is slimming.
-
OQBAlso intimidating.....that is why we haven't changed our football helmets. If I may say so, they are THE BEST looking helmets!
-
Old RiderI am still waiting for an all white uniform..well just add white pants I guess to the football arsenal.
-
OQB
I have wanted this as well.....every all white uniform I have seen is very nice. This is from The Red Rider Sports Blog's page...something he put together, and I like it a lot!Old Rider;681293 wrote:I am still waiting for an all white uniform..well just add white pants I guess to the football arsenal.

OQBThey are ordering more black pants this offseason.....but keeping the same stripe instead of changing to a triple stripe (which makes sense)
When it comes down to it, the only way we get a different color or alternate uniform is if their is a donation and that is what they want the money used for. -
RedRider1I wish they could order all new black pants and go to the triple stripe like the red ones...but if they're only replacing a few...then no sense in making them different.
