He isn't playing all the guards!riders1;684235 wrote:bnr if you read stoikes comments you will see what we have ( bigs ) or have not ( guards that can run an offense or provide outside shooting ) and thus we have no adjustments that can be made just looks like wack to you and hope someone might step up
PS : Maries pizza in Wadsworth is excellent , the one positve about tonights trip.
And here's an irony, Coach Slaughter is a former guard who holds the record for assists as a Rider, he obviously had teammates that could put the shot in for him to receive the assist, but he also had to complete the pass. Now, being a teacher, he should also be able to teach, so therefore, is he teaching the pass, or are they unable to learn it?
Landis isn't much better than Ray, either! -
RedRider1stoike,
thanks for the feedback. Always nice to read unbiased opinion....you wont find many to disagree with you.
Jake Bolyard's don't come around but once a decade, but we have so little outside shooting...maybe less than I can ever remember.
2001-02 (Smitty's last season as coach) was the last time a season has been this bad in terms of wins and losses. Went 5-16 that year.
The only positive was that Zach surpassed 1400 career points tonight. There's two members of the 1400 point-600 rebound club. Wasson and Marcell Denson. -

My only complaint about Jordan (and if you recall, I've been a fan of his since I first saw him play JV as a sophomore) is way too many one handed (lazy) passes.Series62;684277 wrote:Landis isn't much better than Ray, either!
Landis seems to have the concept of making crisp, decisive passes figured out.....still don't see either as anything more than a distributor and defender. One or the other wont solve our problem of not having any shooters. -

Even if that were true about him being a parent of a player with little to no PT, what does that say about the skills of the sons of coaches (current and former, basketball and football) that are receiving so much PT with no improvement in play?Riderwannabe;684114 wrote:bnr, you sound like a parent of a player thats not getting any playing time. Maybe your son just isnt good enough. So shut the heck up -
riders1I have seen all the guards play this year and up to now none have done anything to consistently impress or lead any kind of an offense, seniors, juniors, or sophomores.

I was a fan of Ray's also, but his play has gone sour, yet, Landis hasn't brought anything new that i see worthy of promotion from JV. From the very miniscule time I've seen him play, I think Mitchell is the best guard on the team and he can shoot, but obviously, Coach Slaughter doesn't like him...RedRider1;684283 wrote:My only complaint about Jordan (and if you recall, I've been a fan of his since I first saw him play JV as a sophomore) is way too many one handed (lazy) passes.

Series62So, Orrville is now 6-13, (.316) and will end up either 7-13 (.350) or 6-14 (.300). How does that equate to the winning tradition you've become accustomed to and derided the former coach over despite him not ever having a losing season?
I had to ask! -
FlashThe difference is that last year, with talent,we went to the state semi final game. This year without the essentials in talent we were worse in our record . If we would have played a zone defense all season we would have had a better record this year but still not gone anywhere in the tournament, , but last year we would have lost in the regionals as we did previous years under another coach. WE won last year and experienced the full potential of our team. This year were struggling because we can't play man to man defense and dont' have outside offensive talent enough to compete with other teams.

riders1The present coach still has more district, regional, and State runnerup titles!
-
BRFbnr's comment about "it was Coach Short's team"................that's rich.
I really like TJ and think he is a good player. I am sorry that there seems to be a problem.
"How does that equate to the winning tradition you've become accustomed to and derided the former coach over despite him not ever having a losing season?
I had to ask!"
Because he's your buddy? -
OQBIt never ends..and always has to come back up! Seems like everyone has moved on but a few! Last season proved we made the right decision, and I don't care who you are or who you are close with, Coach Slaughter is the right man for the job. I would like to see what some of these know it all parents and fans coach this team and see how well they do.
On a side note, Maries Pizza in Wadsworth really is a great place to eat, actually jealous you got to go there. Instead I was at the Dalton Rotary Club spaghetti dinner in which I saw BRF's two daughters. Haha -
bnrI would only have 5 players on the entire team:
Wasson
Pirman
Neer
Landis
Ray
I mean we only keep getting blown out so if these 5 stars only play we should win out right? Who needs a bench? If we get desperate their is a few kids i saw at the boys club that are ready to play.. lets look to the future slaughter and his 3rd and 4th grade coaching staff. Lets make a run baby whooooo!!!! -
RiderfanYou need good guard play wins championships. Last year we had it, this year not so much. Even the best coach will not win without steady guard play. I admire Sly for trying to find two consistant players. He's not playing the young kids to get ready for next year he wants to win this year and is looking for the right combo.
-
riders1Where you newbies been all season? We could have been so great this season if only you had spoken up with your intelligent input so much sooner, but no you wait until only 1 game left in the regular season and let us down with how you could have made us better, now that is what's really sad!
Let's go Red Riders, BEAT WOOOSTER ! -

Yep, he sure does, I think the drop down to a weaker division helped also. One other thing he has too...a sub .500 season.riders1;684307 wrote:The present coach still has more district, regional, and State runnerup titles! -

Perhaps he should give Mitchell a try! Perhaps!Riderfan;684466 wrote:You need good guard play wins championships. Last year we had it, this year not so much. OQBGo riders!!

Series62Yeah!
-
BRFDid I just read a "yeah" by S62 to a "Go Riders" comment? Perhaps it is sarcasm. I will give the benefit of the doubt, though.
-
OQBI agree, Mitchell hasn't gotten a fair shot....but then again maybe their is a reason that the public doesn't know about.
Either way we are still going to have a losing record, and have a shot at making some noise in the post season....time will tell.
In the mean time I'm just going to support whoever is out there in an Orrville uniform, because that is what true devoted fans do. -

That sounds like a "boiler-plate" coaches cop-out!OQB;685196 wrote:I agree, Mitchell hasn't gotten a fair shot....but then again maybe their is a reason that the public doesn't know about.

If the reason equates to no PT...Cut him! You make yourself look bad by letting him sit there and piece-mealing him PT and he plays better than your other guards.
I'm not a devoted fan of what really appears to be either nepotism or favoritism or a combination of both. -
ridernationI say we hire Series62 as the new coach, because he has all the answers and would not play favorites with anybody. Please give me your starting 5 and who would play off the bench if any.
-
Riderwannabe62 can suck a ..... he is a short lover and a mitchell fan. i sit up in the stands and watch the antics of him and its a joke. coach sly is doing the right thing.
-
Series62Starters:
Wasson
Mitchell
Brenner
Winters
Neer???
Bench:
Turner
Ray
Pirman
???
Realizing early on that I won't when many games, I would stress teaching defense and basketball fundamentals and actively seek assistants and coaches that are teachers and motivators. I want emphasis on building the character, discipline and academia of young men first and worrying about wins and losses secondary to that. All positions are up for competition at the beginning of the season and really, throughout the season. Being a senior does not guarantee a starting position or a spot on the team, nor does friend and familial relationships. -

Yes, I love Short and Slaughter. If you ask Mitchell, he'll tell you, I haven't always been a "fan" of his! I do feel he's performed better at the guard position in the very "limited" time he's seen than the guards that receive the majority play.Riderwannabe;685291 wrote:62 can suck a ..... he is a short lover and a mitchell fan. i sit up in the stands and watch the antics of him and its a joke. coach sly is doing the right thing.
What "antics" do you see?
While watching me, you seem to not cheer for the team you "wannabe" a part of!
You're obviously another computer forum "toughs"! Come see me since you know who I am.
