Turner played great defense on him, he is just that good and doesn't miss...even with a hand in his face.
Paper had him with 48 points including 25 of 25 free throws. I see that as he made 25 trips to the line. My idea of great defense is holding a player below their average and not fouling them. The fact that this kids is a good player is understood but typically players do not score roughly 20pts over their average against great defense. IMO -
BRFRR1: I seem to remember Mark Alberts laying some big points on us. Seems like that kind of stuff would be really hard to find. I don't think any opponent has scored more than Royer and Summers, though (what is it? 52?).

Mr. RussellCollege of Wooster is indeed licking their chops to get Brennan. So is Marietta College, now #18 in the country and OAC champs. That is where I was told Brennan has gotten it down to. From experience, Marietta's coaches are outstanding recruiters and give a ton of financial aid. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on the river, but I really do not know why he wouldn't go to Wooster if they want him. Either way, what a great high school career.

RedRider1^^And according to the paper, still 100 points or so away from Gaubatz's school record.
Orrville's Zach Wasson is now #3 on the all-time Orrville scoring list, but I'm sure he doesn't really care about that right now.
Last time we've lost more than 11 in a season...it was in 01-02 when we went 5-16. Went 9-13 in 00-01.
BRF,
Summers has the record for points scored, 51 (also set the school record for rebounds in a game (22) that very same night. Orrville won that night 114-78. Wonder if that was at Copley or our gym? Also scored 48 in the same season against Manchester.
I was at the game when Royer scored 46. That was in our gym vs. Massillon. -
Old RiderHere are the seedings...
1. Hillsdale
2. Northwestern
3. Smithville
4. Orrville
5. Oberlin
6. Norwayne
7. Triway
8. Tuslaw
9. Wellington
10. Black River
11. Columbia
12. Loudonville
13. Waynedale
14. Chipp
Orrville plays Chippewa in 1st round then the winner of Tuslaw/Black River. We win those and Hillsdale takes care of business...it will be a Hillsdale/Orrville district semi game this year. -
otownexpertRedRider1,
Summers scored 51 vs. Copley @ Orrville. His 48pt game was @ Manchester. How many points does Wasson have? How close is he to Summers on the all-time list? Can he finish #2 All-Time? -
RedRider1otown,
I think he needs like 300 more to get close to Summers. Unless he goes nuts over the next few weeks, 3rd will be where he ends up. -

Anything less than a rematch with Hillsdale will be a monster disappointment.
Now that seedings are out, I'd love to see us do some experimenting in terms of rotations, and spreading the minutes around. What can it hurt now? -
RedRider1Bottom of the bracket will be real competitive with Smithville, Triway and NW'n all down there.
-
FlashNot the way I would of wanted it, but you have to play them sooner or later. Loudonville is coming in on an up note having beat Clearfork this weekend. The way to stop McKean is don't let him touch the ball and the Triway 4 corners may be able to do that.

Just out of curiousity....how WOULD you have wanted it? -
RedRider1Maybe he's had preferred to match up a 2nd time with NW'n rather than Hillsdale (who made us look real bad at the Smitty)? Just a thought.
-
BRFI see where you are going with that. My feeling for this District is...bring any and all comers on. It's interesting to look at Pitman's site and see the divisional break downs. We are WAY up there on our schedule. And I agree with you, on playing guys that "click" in the last few games so we can go into this tourney and do some major damage.
Go Riders! -
RedRider1We've got 11 losses, let's try some different things over the last few games. Nothing like wholesale changes, but mix in a change or two. OCC is out of reach, seeds are established. What's left to lose?
Focus on giving our seniors a good experience on Senior Night, and look to play a complete game against Wooster and build some momentum. -
OQBI saw glimpses of our guards driving to the hoop last night....and it was working! I would love to see more driving and if its not open dish it out and get another set play...
This would be my starting 5 and bench from here on out
Starters:
Wasson
Pirman
Brenner
Turner
Landis
Bench:
Winters
Ray
Smith -
ridernationMy 2 cents is, I think Sly likes having Turner and Brenner coming off the bench because of the energy they bring to the floor. I thought that was the best game I have seen from Ray as far as running the point, still no offensive threat but did make several nice passes. Its not important who starts you can see who he has the confidence in when the game is on the line, both Turner and Brenner was in there. On thing we need to work on is not committing really stupid fouls, Pirman and Wasson need to dial it down some, Wasson needs to quit running over guys going to the whole and Max needs to quit holding and elbowing off the ball. We need them in the game at crunch time not sitting on the pine.
-
RedRider1Jordan had 10 points last night....that's got to be a high for him.
Max had 15, Zach 12 and Jordan 10. Have we put three in double figures at any other point in the season?
Can't have been too many other times...for a team that averages in the mid 50's on offense. -
FlashBRF, I was saying I thought we matched up better with NWN or Smithville who don't have as much height and that seems to be our strength. Hillsdale has the height to match us. District finals would be an achievement and anything else gravy.
-
riders1QB, You have to have Neer coming in off the bench before a couple others you mentioned.
-
riders1As a 4 seed we really don't have much choice as 2 & 3 jump into the lower bracket , we a forced into the upper with Hillsdale, then 5, 6, 7, jump to the lower bracket and stay away from Hillsdale until the district final. A team like Triway might surprise and get thru that bracket despite their record.
-
RiderwannabeI say either Triway or Orrville wins this district
-
OQBI forgot about Neer, but your right...I would have him coming off the bench as well.
I want the three young guys to get as much experience as possible the rest of the regular season....that is why I would start Landis over Ray.
Have a three man rotation with Wasson, Pirman, and Winters (always have 2 of them out there) if we have a height advantage play all three together...Winters played a good game last night as well, but needs to finish better and get those easy tip ins.
Turner and Brenner bring so much athleticism and energy to the team when they are in...both were knocking down shots when they had the opportunity let's hope they can be consistent now. Imo, you have to start atleast 1 of these guys if not both.
Ray has just not done it for me this year, although he had a good game last night...I still think we are better with Landis running the offense, doesn't commit as many turnovers.
Graber is just another 5 fouls imo.....isn't an offensive threat at all and plays avergage defense. Great leader, but sometimes you just have to do what you gotta do.
Smith and Neer both bring scoring to the team and could provide that outside shot or atleast a threat of one so it opens the floor for the bigs to operate down low.
I just really liked the way were were playing aggresive last night and wanting to drive to the hoop, then when they thought we were going to drive or pass we made the jump shot. -
BRFA few comments, starting with this one:

Then why not start them? I have never understood this kind of thinking. It reminds me of the Cavs back in the day when the coach insisted on starting Mike Sanders ahead of Hot Rod Williams because he liked how he played off the bench. Well, that was a long time ago and probably means nothing to many readers. My point is: start your best 5. (btw, ridernation, I agree with the rest of your post)
Flash: I got ya. Thanks for the explo.
I also whole heartedly agree with rider1 about Neer. -
riders1Yes you have to have a guard that drives to the hoop, draws a defense to him and then can dish to the bigs. Staying outside and trying to pass inside is just not a good offense as the D is packing it in to the bigs. I enjoyed the one time last night when we actually passed to around midcourt and had 3 passes without a dribble and scored on a layup! Also why do the big guys get the ball in the paint and have to dribble instead of just pivot go up and shoot?

I think Turner and Brenner have to come off the bench, their energy leads to a lot of quick fouls and they would be on the bench early and probably foul out later.
