I mispelled his name. Check. Citing "useless things like statistics" LOLOL. What do you base trade value on? Eh Slick.Mooney44Cards;1173704 wrote:Can't spell player's name right? Check.
Suggest completely unrealistic trade? Check.
Cite useless stats like saves and batting average? Check.
I'm sure we can add a few more to this, if we just keep going.
Chuck Coletti said the trade would not be a good one for the tribe. I agree. We can get a 251 batting average..and 20 homers from LaPorta. If the tribe pulls this off...a disaster for the tribe.
If we move Perez, I would want some real value...not some retread on the downward spiral of his career. -
Mooney44CardsHis lowest slugging percentage IN HIS CAREER is 21 points higher than the highest slugging percentage on the Indians in 2011.

Anyone who is serious about baseball knows why batting average and saves are terrible stats.Footwedge;1173738 wrote:I mispelled his name. Check. Citing "useless things like statistics" LOLOL. What do you base trade value on? Eh Slick.
Not all stats are created equal.....slick. -

Does Detroit need a closer? Nope. And Fielder is in his prime. Tex....the Yanks would love to dump his ass. One year is an anomaly. 2 and 1/4 years is a telling sign. Tex is washed up.pnhasbeen;1173732 wrote:Brandon League for Prince Fielder? -
Mooney44CardsQuestion for you Mr. Footwedge. Which player is more valuable, a guy hitting .320 or a guy hitting .250?

Yeah...winning a batting title is worthless...as is winning the save title. Folks...the dude really said that. LOLOOL. Tee it back up Slick, I'll give you yet another mulligan.Mooney44Cards;1173748 wrote:Anyone who is serious about baseball knows why batting average and saves are terrible stats.

Now here comes the sabre metrics nonsense that Billy Beane uses to put out a perrenial loser. LMAO. -

Ok so he doesn't hit .300 anymore. You realize there are 20 stats more useful than batting avg? Obviously you don't.Footwedge;1173750 wrote:Does Detroit need a closer? Nope. He also has 4 gold gloves, fields at 0.997 and plays 160 games a year. That is SO much more valuable than a closer. -
chicago510
Yeah that Eric Gagne dude really panned out.Footwedge;1173756 wrote:Yeah...winning a batting title is worthless...as is winning the save title. Folks...the dude really said that. LOLOOL. Tee it back up Slick, I'll give you yet another mulligan.

He actually said "useless stats like saves and ba." I bet you those stats are not what a trade is based on.

Neither do the yankees. Soriano will be fine until robertson (I think that's his name) gets back. Losing MO isn't a make or break thing for them. They aren't going to fuck up their offense for so guy who will only matter three times a week at most. -

Wut? Drunk post, mebbe?Mooney44Cards;1173752 wrote:Question for you Mr. Footwedge. Which player is more valuable, a guy hitting .320 or a guy hitting .250?
*what. Thought I'd do this before the 23 year olds get too fired up. -

Yeah, that sabermetrics nonsense that every single MLB team has embraced since Billy Beane's Oakland Athletics had back to back 100 win seasons.Footwedge;1173756 wrote:Yeah...winning a batting title is worthless...as is winning the save title. No.....now I know this is difficult for you to understand.....but we can't tell from batting average. Because batting average treats every hit equally. A home run is not worth the same as a single. Ditto for doubles and triples. Slugging percentage does not suffer from this same bias.Footwedge;1173770 wrote:Wut? Drunk post, mebbe?
So who's more valuable....guy hitting .250 with 56 HRs or a guy hitting .320 with 7 HRs? -

I don't know what you base trade value on, but hello....stats have a lot to do widdit. Try translating in English.pnhasbeen;1173765 wrote:He actually said "useless stats like saves and ba." I bet you those stats are not what a trade is based on.
Speculation. Soriano is not the second coming you know. Look up his recent numbers....Neither do the yankees. Soriano will be fine until robertson (I think that's his name) gets back. Losing MO isn't a make or break thing for them.
Apparently you're another one that is unaware that Tex's numbers have been pretty much garbage over the past 2 1/4 years. Hardly worth the money...and getting rid of Tex would hardly screw up the Yankee offence. Tex is part of the problem...not the solution. They aren't going to fuck up their offense for so guy who will only matter three times a week at most.
Only a fool would want the tribe to trade Perez for a washed up first baseman. -

chicago510What is more valuable a closer with 55 saves or a closer with 43 saves?
-
Mooney44Cards
Yes, and as pnhasbeen pointed out, it was a trick question. You can't tell from batting average how valuable a player is. Slugging percentage is not a perfect stat either, but it is a hell of a lot more useful than batting average, because it doesn't treat all hits equally.Footwedge;1173811 wrote:from your post #31...verbatim...

It's ok to admit that you know way less about baseball than everyone else in this thread. We'll respect you at least for being honest. -

Moon....you can rattle off hypotheticals all you want. We are talking about 2 players that have real stats...not some hypothetical manure that you're conjuring up.Mooney44Cards;1173794 wrote:No.....now I know this is difficult for you to understand.....but we can't tell from batting average. Like I've said maybe 5 or 6 times now. Tex's stats blow these days...and I agree with Colletti...bad trade for the tribe.
I'm not opposed to trading Perez, but we better not get another POS like Ubaldo in return. Sorry you can't follow the bouncing ball. -

Mooney44CardsHey guys Billy Beane is a perennial loser with his 5 playoff appearances is 7 years with one of the bottom 3 payrolls in all of baseball.
At least the facts agree with you FootWedge. -
hasbeenTexeria: '09- 156 games, 39 HR, 122 RBI, .292 BA, .565 slugging,
'10- 158 games, 33 HR, 108 RBI, .256 BA, .481 slugging
'11- 156 games, 39 HR, 111 RBI, .248 BA, .494 slugging
'12- 35 games, 5 HR, 19 RBI, .232 BA, .399 slugging
Perez: '09 32 games, 0-1 record, 4.32 ERA, 1 save
'10 63 games, 2-2 record, 1.71 ERA, 23 saves
'11 64 games, 4-7 record, 3.32 ERA, 36 saves
'12 16 games, 0-1 record, 3.68, 12 saves
Even though Texeria's BA has dropped the last couple years and he's had a shitty season thus far, he still has a greater value than a closer.
