Now, is that opinion? Yeah.

But it's a slippery slope, I could get on here and say that in my mind, all white people should be shot, execution style...because, you know, I believe in a pure black planet (though, the website hasn't been going too strong lately, so that may not work), and simply say "Hey, it's what I believe, so I don't care!"

....Something is always right in SOMEONE'S mind....that doesn't make it without flaws.

Well done. I agree, those "holes" are on all sides of a discussion, so no one is completely right or wrong. They believe what they believe, it may be wrong in your mind, but may be totally justified in theirs. Walk a mile..................

Pretty much what you are saying ghmothwdwhso is that Adolf Hitler in his thought process was okay based on the fact that its just the way he thinks? A person can have a belief system that in their mind is ok such as Hitler but indeed his logic was very flawed. Some thoughts:

1. A person IS as he thinks for the most part. Thank GOD we don't act upon all of our thoughts though. Sometimes the best thing to do is keep your thoughts to yourself. I hope this doesn't come back to bite somewhere in this post!

2. Don't blame the blacks in this country for black history month, reverse discrimination and other associated "corrections." If we were treated fairly from the get go by the forefathers of this country, these things wouldn't have to exist as they currently do. Karma???

3. If you had to choose between be a victim of reverse discrimination or a victim of enslavement, which would you choose? If you had to choose between being black or white, which would you choose?

4. Ignorance is bliss!

By the time they get to me, they should have a good idea of what the White Part of History is from the past 9 Years of Schooling. By the time they are 15/16, they should be ready to explore the "OTHER" parts of History. I personally think that the Upper High School Years should be spent looking at the more controversial/over looked aspects of History. I.E. Black American History/Culture, The Equal Rights Movement, Women's History, Asian History (1800s "Slave Labor", Japanese Concentration Camps.) I could go on and on. It's ignorant to teach a kid every year that we won the Revolutionary War, that the North beat the South.....Maybe I'm thinking too much

#2. Karma?? If your great grandfather was a thief should you be labeled the same? I don't believe you should. You should be judged by your actions.
This I think is part of the problem. The sense of entitlement, (By some not all) because of there ancestors being mistreeted.

#3 I agree that the problem still exists. But progress has an continues to be made.

#4. People are becoming more and more educated to this issue. Yes ingnorance is still out there but it's alot better than it was 30 years ago.

I suggest you read "Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong" by James Loewen. It is an interesting read and based on your post, may cover a lot of the things you are thinking about. The premise of the book is that many students find history boring. The reason is schools are not teaching all aspects of history.

I will not ruin it for you, but I found that the author said some things I agree with and many others I do not. However, I recommend it to anyone interested in history, not just educators.

I had an athiest liberal teacher for one of my college classes. He was white. But he told all the white males in the class that we should be ashamed, embarresed, and disgusted for how our ancestors treated other races. He wanted us to celebrate black history month by celebrating black culture. A friend of mine and I brought in a bucket of KFC, watermelon, and kool-aid.

This sounds VERY INTERESTING. I know it's NOT the same, but it reminds me of "A People's History of the United States" (Don't know how to underline grammar police) by Howard Zinn. That was a good read and actually came in handy for some papers.
