There is more to it though. I'm one of the most frugal people you will ever meet and even I tip pretty decent.

    You are a cop right?
  • 2kool4skool
Just to be clear, I do tip. Unless you kill my mother you're getting at least 15%, usually 20% or 25%.

Thought the "I don't tip unless forced to" line would be extreme enough to be seen as a parody, but apparently there are multiple people here who actually ARE at that level of douchebaggery. So my apologies.

clearly that is why 16 year olds do this job.

so the same things they do at Wendy's and McD's?
hasbeen;1222844 wrote:It's pretty simple: the wage covers what the server does for the restaurant. The tip covers what the server does for the customer.
ok, so why cant you just pay them like everyone else? if customers gets poor service, the free market will decide not to visit that establishment. if the manager is losing customers because of poor servers, they will be disciplined/fired.

naaw, not going down that route. Just know your food has surely been jizzed on throughout your "career" so I'm too concerned about your tipping habit

Funny coming from a dude in a massively unionized field.

Edit: I see this was already addressed.

We call the cops and give them any extra pizzas we have. Don't even jizz on them first either.

either way, if citizens are not happy with the police service etc. they could vote the officials out of office and not pass taxes etc.

hmmmm so that really was sour cream on top?

Well we have no sour creme in our shop so no. I have no idea what that'd be. But seriously, we don't jizz on cops or anyone else's food.

That sucks about keep the change shit. We give $5 bucks for the pizza delivery. But we also live out in the country so it's kinda nice they come out here.

Yeah, it's a douche movie to tell someone to keep the change when it's a nickel. Just walking away would even be more of a cool move in that situation. I know what you mean about being glad they deliver to your house since I live in the country as well. I meet the delivery guy from the nearest pizza place about a mile from my house. It's kind of weird that they won't bring it the extra mile to my house but I figure it's not a big deal to hop in the vehicle and drive a mile.

Sure. The person who holds down the fort at the counter at your local Wendy's doesn't have to do the same amount of work that a server does. Which is why those counter people are at a fixed rate and servers have the opportunity to make more money. The job is harder. If you can't see the difference between the person who holds down the fort at Wendy's and the server at a restaurant, I don't know what to tell you.

Glory Days;1223086 wrote: ok, so why cant you just pay them like everyone else? if customers gets poor service, the free market will decide not to visit that establishment. if the manager is losing customers because of poor servers, they will be disciplined/fired.
Because somebody, some years ago decided that the customer will DIRECTLY decide the value of the service they receive. Instead of being forced to pay a certain amount, you have the option to not pay for that service. Your tip is telling the server how much their service was worth. If I got stiffed and I knew I did a poor job, I understood because I didn't earn anything more. If I got stiffed and thought I did a great job, then fuck that customer. Better servers almost always make more money. I ALWAYS made more money than the other scrubs I worked with because I busted my balls EARNING that.

If someone doesn't earn a tip, don't give it to them. There is no rule that says you HAVE to tip. But don't be an asshole and not tip just because you don't like the system. That system is what is in place and it's how certain people make their living.

I'll remember when you don't want something like Senate Bill 5 voted on that I can just vote no since I don't like the system that gives you benefits.

Ok...so you still haven't answered my question. I like to eat out, but it's not my fault someone takes a job expecting me to give them money outside of their salary. I think tipping is dumb. Do you tip everyone who does a service for you? Doubt it. So, what is an a valid reason to tip? "they gave exceptional service" What is so exceptional? Did they comp me anything? Did they bring me extra food? By exceptional you mean not leave me alone and ask me ten times how my meal is? Honestly, what is exceptional in peoples minds? What do servers do that is above and beyond their job parameters that they deserve 20% of my bill?

Actually, I have, you just don't care for the answer. Would I be OK if the servers were paid a normal wage and there was no tipping? Yes, but that's not how it works, and I can't change it. From your responses, it appear you think everyone can just "get a better job" at will. If that was the case for you, congrats. Most of us at the beginning of our working lives have to take whatever jobs we can get, including sub-minimum wait jobs.

Ha a good reason to tip "It's a bitch move if you don't." Sound reasoning right there, i can see why you're executive material.

It's cool - I'm glad you tip so you don't look like a bitch and not for an actual reason.

The actual reason is that the system is set up that way, and I'm not going to screw over the person at the bottom as some sort of protest.

Not my fault the system is set up that way and not my fault someone decided to work for the good will of others. I tip out of necessity as I've stated before. I don't know what exceptional service is, to me it sounds like "doing the job you were hired for."

Lol you're such a cheap ass.
