What type of tipper are you?

I've only been to Coldstone twice because I hate it, but I was in line one time when they were tipped and began singing some stupid fucking song.bigdaddy2003;1222656 wrote:I have a buddy who somehow found out that if you tip the servers at Cold Stone they will sing for you. Why anyone would want to hear people who are serving you food sing is beyond be but I'm definitely not paying for it.
I prefer the local Toft's Ice cream parlor or Pizza House's Ice Cream anyway. -

I dig Tofts but I've never been to the Pizza House. I've passed it a couple times but never stopped. I kind of like Cold Stone but only because I think it's cool to be able to mix different items in with the ice cream but I'm not huge on going there.hoops23;1222662 wrote:I've only been to Coldstone twice because I hate it, but I was in line one time when they were tipped and began singing some stupid fucking song.

I love coldstone, but it's too damn expensive. They will sing if you tip them any amount...bigdaddy2003;1222656 wrote:I have a buddy who somehow found out that if you tip the servers at Cold Stone they will sing for you. The thing is you still only tip if they deserve it. I've never said you should always tip. Only tip when they deserve it.Raw Dawgin' it;1222599 wrote:So it's all the same in the end is what you're saying? Why not just increase the prices on the menu 15% and pay them more then leave me the option to give them a tip if they deserve it.
My whole thing is it's stupid to take a job where you have to rely on peoples good will and it's stupid that we're expected to give extra for someone doing their job. Anyone who does a service for you deserves a tip then.
And you're not paying extra. You're paying for the service. Just the service price isn't listed so that gives you the opportunity to pay them what you feel they earned.
Raw Dawgin' it;1222626 wrote:I still haven't heard a valid reason why anyone tips. All i hear is "Because you're suppose to."
You tip a server because their service isn't completely listed on the check. You get to choose how much the service was worth. -
Dr. KnOiTaLLI always pay with plastic, so I'm generally the guy that rounds my total bill to the nearest 50 cents. The tip in normally around 18%, give or take a little when rounding.
I've been a server before, and I believe everyone should have to do it at some point in their lives. It gives you an appreciation for the hard work they do and how little control they often have and end up getting stiffed for it. Don't be that guy... -

Have fun getting your food, refills, check, condiments, desert, etc. Servers are tip based jobs. 3.85 an hour plus tips. If you don't tip, don't eat out. Simple as that. Go to wendys if you want a non tip based meal.Raw Dawgin' it;1222575 wrote:So does everyone i buy something from. We tip servers because society says we should. Why don't you go tip the cook? Can you fix your own car? Why don't you tip your mechanic. Can you cut your own hair? no? tip them too. I think tipping is stupid, you're already getting paid to do a job, why do i have to give you extra? -
GOONx1920% for poor service. Usually ~30% to the nearest whole dollar. Last night I tipped $8 on a $25 meal. If I'm there for more than 20 minutes then $5 is the minimum regardless of the price. Also if I like my haircut I always tell them to keep the change on a 20.

The dumbass tipped wage scale is not the customer's problem -

This was on the other thread. (Keep the Change)Curly J;1222153 wrote:I do too. In fact The Wife and I was at a pub last night and one of the patrons there having dinner. She works a another bar/restaurant in the same town we go to less often. When she saw us she informed the Bartender that we were great tippers. The Bartender said I know, they are regulars here. I left about a 35% tip as we had a blast with the Bartender and the other patron. -
2kool4skoolOnly tip if it's a place I plan on going back to regularly. Otherwise, what's the point? Not like it will earn me better service in the future if it's the only time I'll be there, or if I'm confident they won't remember me next time I come in.

iclfan2I don't buy the tipping argument at all. I worked at Dick's Sporting Goods during college in 06 and made 6 bucks an hour (Worked in shoes, tons of morons and never a second to sit down fwiw). So the waiter makes 3.85 an hour, plus tips from 3 or 4 tables an hour? Makes waaay more than I did. That said, I usually tip around 15%. 20% if the person was great and 10% if the person sucked. It also varies by how many times I plan on eating there. Additionally, I worked for a junk removal place in college, a pretty expensive service, and got tips maybe 10% of the time. I never expected one but worked like I was trying for one every time. Waiters get lazy now knowing they are getting a "good" tip.

So you don't pay for the added service of having a server. Without a server, you go up to order, you get your own drinks, you go get your food, you go up and get someone to fix any mistakes. You might have to find someone to clean the table too. -

and if you want to complain about the pay or tips, go get a real job instead of a server job.DeyDurkie5;1222695 wrote:Have fun getting your food, refills, check, condiments, desert, etc. Servers are tip based jobs. 3.85 an hour plus tips. so what does the hourly wage cover for their jobs? you justified their tip. what about their set wage?hasbeen;1222824 wrote:So you don't pay for the added service of having a server. Set wage would probably cover all side work which includes stocking, prepping, end of shift cleaning. This includes where you sit and eat, where you pay, the restrooms, the service station, and the foyer.Glory Days;1222829 wrote:so what does the hourly wage cover for their jobs? you justified their tip. what about their set wage? -
hasbeenIt's pretty simple: the wage covers what the server does for the restaurant. The tip covers what the server does for the customer.

Which is your choice. I'm just letting you know you're an asshole who chooses to not pay for part of the service you receive. -

A good server is every bit as skilled as what you do for a living.Glory Days;1222828 wrote:and if you want to complain about the pay or tips, go get a real job instead of a server job. -
that_guyHere in Oregon servers make minimum wage, which is $8.80 an hour. At that level, I personally don't feel obligated to tip for crappy service. I usually only consider it crappy service if the server has an attitude and treats us like we are inconveniences on their day, rather than paying customers. It had been a very long time since I had poor service, but twice in the past few weeks I've had waitresses who were noticably annoyed because we had the gall to sit at one of their tables and order food and drinks. Both got no tips, and I talked to to the manager in one of the cases (who just shrugged and said "she's new")....
Usually I tip between 15-25%. If the place is slammed and the server is doing all they can to keep up, if it's a place we go to often, or if the waitress is hot, I'll tip on the high end of the spectrum... -

Sorry, but you're a bad negotiator, then. I worked in a sporting goods store my sophomore year of college, with virtually no prior work experience. They tried to start me at minimum wage and I worked it up to $10.50 an hour before accepting the job. I was up to $14.00/hr + commission by the end of the year. In jobs like that where there's a lot of unschooled laborers it's VERY easy to talk your way up to a better wage.iclfan2;1222809 wrote:I don't buy the tipping argument at all. SportsAndLadyI understand the difference between $0 and $25. But not $20 and $25.
If you're going to go out and spend $20, you can spend $25. -

This. I believe I told the story before about my jackass brother having the same opinion as others on here about people not coming to his job and tipping him.SportsAndLady;1222903 wrote:+1
