What type of tipper are you?

Get a different job then. Simple as that.hasbeen;1222477 wrote:lol @ you people who are comparing your salary job to a tip-based job. yeah, you deal with assholes all day and don't get tips, but you get a good hourly or a good salary. a server gets like $3 an hour. they rely on tips. now bartenders are different.
I tip 20% or more usually. -

I live too far out in the country to get anything delivered.Tiger2003;1222470 wrote:How much do you guys tip a food delivery driver? -

One can argue that it is kinda bullshit restaurants heavily weigh their employees' salaries on tips. This is why all servers expect to be tipped as opposed to actually working for those tips.hasbeen;1222477 wrote:lol @ you people who are comparing your salary job to a tip-based job. yeah, you deal with assholes all day and don't get tips, but you get a good hourly or a good salary. a server gets like $3 an hour. they rely on tips. now bartenders are different.

Yes, you are right. The example I used in my other post was the one person who sticks out in my mind who needed to pick his food up instead of having it delivered. He would order the same thing each time and it always came to $10.95. Every time I noticed his name on the order sheet I would get pissed because he said the same irritating shit to me each time I delivered to him. He would hand me 11 bucks and say "oh you can keep the nickel." I dont remember anyone else in the nearly 4 months I worked there doing that. I worked 7 days a week the last 2 months so I could be wrong but I have a good memory and I can honestly say I dont remember anyone else doing it. I remember everyone else at least tipping a dollar.FatHobbit;1222488 wrote:It's funny how that can change your perspective. For somebody who is in high school or working through college, that can be pretty hard.Raw Dawgin' it;1222491 wrote:Get a different job then. Simple as that.
Let's get rid of servers. No more sit down restaurants. Carry out only.
I agree with the "expect to be tipped" part. You still have to earn it.like_that;1222519 wrote:One can argue that it is kinda bullshit restaurants heavily weigh their employees' salaries on tips. This is why all servers expect to be tipped as opposed to actually working for those tips.
People who don't tip because "they just took the order, got drinks, delivered, made sure everything was okay" are assholes. If the server sucks, by all means stiff them. But if they successfully did their job, pay them. They provided you a service. -

So does everyone i buy something from. We tip servers because society says we should. Why don't you go tip the cook? Can you fix your own car? Why don't you tip your mechanic. Can you cut your own hair? no? tip them too. I think tipping is stupid, you're already getting paid to do a job, why do i have to give you extra?hasbeen;1222568 wrote:For somebody who is in high school or working through college, that can be pretty hard.

sleeperI agree with RDI. It's become an expectation rather than a reward.

People who don't get tips are typically paid more than people who do. Especially servers.Raw Dawgin' it;1222575 wrote:So does everyone i buy something from. Thank you Cap't obvious. Find a job that pays better, I shouldn't be expected to give you money because other people do.FatHobbit;1222577 wrote:People who don't get tips are typically paid more than people who do. Especially servers. -

If we get rid of tipping the servers hourly goes up which probably means price of food goes up. -
sportchamppsI worked at a server for a few years. There are definitely servers who expect a tip for showing up and giving shitty service but, at the same time there are servers who will go out of their way to make sure your meal is what you expect. When we go out we usually tip 20% unless the service is bad. Then we only leave 15%. For people who stiff a waiter not only are you not giving the. A tip your making them pay for you to eat there. A server usually has a tip share he has to pay out each night that is between 3-5% of their sales. As a server I knew I would get a few jerks who left shitty tips, couldn't afford to tip, or were ignorant to the norms of society but it would balance out with other people who were nice and left great tips.
The worst group of people I served were a few brothers and their families who ran a tree trimming service. They were rednecks who were rude and disrespectful every time they came in. The owner would never order off the menu instead he always created his own pasta. He would then send it back 3-4 time each visit saying it didn't taste like the last time he was here. He actually sent it back 5 times on Christmas day. This was the final straw for our manager. He told them they were no longer welcome to come back and also made sure they no longer were used by Easton as their tree trimming services. Well the owner came back a few weeks after that and actually got in our GM's face saying he made them lose their biggest account and they were gonna go under now. Our GM actually had to have him escorted out by the police. -

So it's all the same in the end is what you're saying? Why not just increase the prices on the menu 15% and pay them more then leave me the option to give them a tip if they deserve it.hasbeen;1222585 wrote:And I agreed that it should not be an expectation. It should be earned.

My whole thing is it's stupid to take a job where you have to rely on peoples good will and it's stupid that we're expected to give extra for someone doing their job. Anyone who does a service for you deserves a tip then. -

You can't get a free lap dance and they won't put their tits in your face if you don't throw dollars at them. You can go sit there and buy drinks and not give them money...they'll just ignore you.hoops23;1222602 wrote:What about teh strippers? -

I do not buy the fact that people who don't get paid tips at a restuarant will make more than people who do. I know a few waiters, being in college, and it's not uncommon to hear them bringing home 2-300 dollars a night.very good for working at a restuarant if you ask me.
Say you work at shitty place that doesn't get a lot of traffic. I BELIEVE (could be wrong), if you do not make enough in tips/hr from your base of $3 to equal minimum wage, you are compensated by the employer so that you at least make minimum. I doubt this hardly ever comes up though.
I worked at KFC for 2 years during high schOol. Why does somebody who works at say an applebees, with their special takeout promotion, deserve or expect to be tipped, but somebody working fast food doesn't. How is that employee providing more value than somebody who takes food out to somebody at KFC? -
sportchamppsI only tip a takeout person if it's a big order for an office and not an individual order.
-
Raw Dawgin' itI still haven't heard a valid reason why anyone tips. All i hear is "Because you're suppose to."

2-300 a night isn't bad regardless of job... 200 a night would be ~73k a year..Pick6;1222616 wrote:Couple points....

Because knowing that's how the server makes their living and screwing them is a bitch move. I only stiff someone if they are terrible. It has to be worse than forgetting to get me a refill. I usually think of it as encouraging them to find a new job because they suuuuuck at being a server.sportchampps;1222598 wrote:For people who stiff a waiter not only are you not giving the. Fast food pays better than applebees without tips. That's the logic behind it.Pick6;1222616 wrote:I worked at KFC for 2 years during high schOol. hoops23I'll tip the waitress at a sit down restaurant 15-20%..
What I hate is places like Coldstone or Starbucks who make at least minimum wage (a bit more in the case of Starbuck's) and expect tips for making my shit...
I don't tip the people at McD's or anything for making my food, why should I tip them? If you have a fucking tip jar at a place like that fuck you. -

If you (not you, but anyone) take waiter pay to box food up for takeout and not actually wait tables, you're a dumbass, and that's not my problem.FatHobbit;1222646 wrote:Fast food pays better than applebees without tips. That's the logic behind it. -

Ah, I missed (or ignored) the takeout promotion part of his post. Do they pay them waiter pay for that, and do they have tables in the restaurant or are they stuck only running food out to people who are too lazy to get out of their car?ts1227;1222648 wrote:If you (not you, but anyone) take waiter pay to box food up for takeout and not actually wait tables, you're a dumbass, and that's not my problem. -

I have a buddy who somehow found out that if you tip the servers at Cold Stone they will sing for you. Why anyone would want to hear people who are serving you food sing is beyond be but I'm definitely not paying for it.hoops23;1222647 wrote:I'll tip the waitress at a sit down restaurant 15-20%..
